the movie was okay. just okay. maybe slightly better than average but letdown by expectations.
echo what quickfire said, about the philosophical questions being blurted out openly. however i think those questions werent meant to be the underlying questions the viewers are meant to asked.
granted when they were asked, the viewers were leaned to those sort of questions and mentality, thus 'incepting/inceptionizing' the ideas and questions later on subliminally implanted by the visuals and progression of the film. then again i might be reading too much into nothing

the idea of the engineers as being the creators/god of human, several religions/beliefs elements were used. first it was the sole 'giant' changing his dna, and falls into the water (evolution concept). then the rapace character believing the humans were enginereed by these higher intelligence lifeforms while still keeping the cross sigil/necklace strongly (granted, it could just be holding on to her fathers memory). however inadvertantly one would associate the christianity religion with jesus being god and since jesus is a man, not a far stretch from the 'giant man' engineers so to speak. not really sure if scientology came into play here. then lastly the 'giants/engineers' ships resemble that of a karipap or a moon crescent which nowadays is associated with islam (nevermind that the crescent logo or usage is created after the fall of the last khalifah or something like that, doesnt really have anything to do with the religion).
so i think what was intended was for the viewer to question their own religion in a sense. there could also be the elements of the creation (human) rising against the creator (giants/engineers) at play here, supplanting the idea its ok to be 'heretical' (is that the word im looking for?).
i dont know. maybe im trying too hard to find a deeper meaning to the movie or im just imagining stuff. either way the movie let me down.
on the aliens side of things.... it throws the aliens vs predator movie out of whack perhaps (since predators have been using aliens to kill and hunt for sport). the black goo it seems can infect the host and allow it to mutate... im assuming it was the worm that turned into the 'snake' like thing that broke that fella arm off and killed the other one. just as he didnt die fully when he submerged into that acidic black goo and later attacked the ship, he was mutating. is it fair to assume that the first 'alien' came out of the genetic material of the 'octopus' and the 'giant'? it wasnt a fully developed alien like in the prior alien movies. anyways.....
btw, it was fairly obvious to me that charlize therons character must have been the daughter to weyland going by her emotional outbursts without having the need for her to say it. further perpetuated by the earlier announcement that david is closest thing he has to a son.
the last scene definitely allows for another sequel to this prequel of alien movie...

the movie can go in either direction or both, depends which to focus on... can follow rapace character and fassbender to the giants planet (a different course for films theme-departure from alien,) or can also focus a bit on the alien let loose from the giant and it somehow going to relate to the alien movie. its fine if they want to take this prequels into another direction (going to giants planet) instead of focusing on alien wrecking havoc, but i hope they make it part of the continuity leading up to alien. otherwise whats the point, the movie couldve worked by just expanding on the idea the humans were engineered by these giants and not have anything to do with alien.

dunno why this movie marketing a bit flaw..no standardization over all gsc cinema..gsc 1u got 2d but no 3d, at melaka got 3d only but no normal version, and other place got normal and 3d but no 2d..showtimes also very few compare to madagascar.
Added on June 7, 2012, 5:01 pmthink they know this movie wont be such a box office.... hence the erratic options (dont think limited film reels or whatever as a source of limited options)
