Somehow I have the same thought on Nokia's current 4-digit naming of their devices.  laugh.gif

I played with the display model (8800) before and I think the price justify the solid feel, material and the well engineered sliding mechanism. You are paying for good physical design. Some people prefer those. Feature-wise, it wasn't such a bad phone either.

Anyway, would have more colours. I personally like white one better but I think it could pull off with more funky colours like NDS or PSP.. tongue.gif

Nokia Vaio... should put a Mac logo as well.

Anyway, I hope that since nokia is using arm11, the price of this thing would not be too high

I thought TyTN II slider is like the nokia N97 sliding mechanism?

TyTN II is a two action mechanism. You slide and then have the option to tilt it whatever angle you want but up to 45 Deg (approx.). With the N97, have no choice. Once you slide, it'll go up automatically.

Well having the choice to tilt it up to 45 degree is much better than just limited to one angle. But the mechanism might just add up the cost of handset though.

i am sure a 8megapixel means a bigger sensor, bigger sensor means bigger phone. bigger phone with qwerty means THE BIGGEST PHONE. I think it's just getting silly with all these MP race among phone makers. 5MP is good enough, heck even 3.2 MP is good enough for a compact cam.

use samsung's mini sensor  tongue.gif

Omnia is 8MP? Not 5MP? The bigger the sensor, the better. Anyway, there are pros and cons between CCD and CMOS. CMOS tends to be less noisy at higher ISO range. Or am i mistaken?

A bigger megapixel number should come with a bigger piece of sensor. Otherwise, noise will start to influence the picture. If DSLR 8MP would be nice. Mobile phone with camera? Nah.... they should just focus on making the module as small as possible and the MP count should accommodate that module to to maximize the quality, that would be fair enough.

that's so true. Another thing to note is that do we even need that much pixels? I mean, even with my DSC-T200 (8MPix), i find it excessively large and it takes up my hard drive space pretty fast. I'm pretty happy with 5mpix.

And high megapixel doesn't mean good quality picture, quality determined by lots of things, flash, lens and even the processor used to process the picture.

HAHAHA.. when you said resigned to buy. I thought you gave up buying already. Anyway, I do secretly wish for something that would able to snap indoor photo properly. Forget about the megapixel count, a proper flash might be something more hopeful in this high end gadget. I find that many times when I wished to take out my phone to snap some pictures, I gave up the intention after remembering the crappiness of it's indoor quality.

I've read that it's using a single ARM11 with slightly boosted processor speed about 400 ++

It does look like it when it come to the sliding mechanism. But it terms of overall design, N97 looks much more hip than tytn 2

what he meant was that the price will same as the launch price for both n95 and n96 during their time. However, I do have a strange feeling that it would be slightly lower since what they offering this time is nothing revolutionary like n95 plus the failure of n96. I get the feeling that nokia might tone down N97 price to grip on larger sales volume to boost the high end market share figure. Just a thought though

To me 5800 is just a normal device, nothing revolutionary, just a bit of that touch screen which dominated by many phones alike out there. I don't know how 5th edition fares coz I never got my hand on one yet but whatever it is, 5800 is just a showcase of touchscreen capability coming from the Nokia house.

What I meant that it's been sometime now since Nokia claimed the throne of high end segment. N96 certainly didn't break any grounds nor did it re-establish Nokia's lead in the high end segment. Therefore, I have a feeling that Nokia might be a bit cautious on their pricing scheme this time plus the economic downturn might shun a lot of potential buyers if the price is rocket high like N95 or 96.

On a personal note, I think that phone prices are getting ridiculously high these days while technology is getting cheaper.
