N series pricing is quite reasonable, comparing with *ahem* certain *ahem* SE feature phones.. like C905, G705, W705 NOKIA N97!, Nokia New Flagship Smartphone
NOKIA N97!, Nokia New Flagship Smartphone

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Dec 3 2008, 04:21 PM) If the 5800 Tube I fondled a few days back is any indication of the Touchscreen UI, I'm not holding so much hope for this one either. Did you notice that there are no page turns or real-time transitioning between aps, or pages of apps for that matter, in any of the videos? It is because, the UI is still shackled by the S60 OS, and with that effect, still look and function like an S60 device, albeit with a touchscreen interface slapped on top of it. Look when the video shows swiping , it did not simulate real-time swipe, it just immediately "jumps" to the next item in the list, unlike iPhone's actual smooth transitioning effect. The same with apps on S60. Nokia has invested so much in the S60 to make it the ultimate boss in the Symbian foundation. Don't think they will drop that so soon yet. Even if Nokia plan to launch a separate platform specifically for their touch based phones, it still need time for developers to come out with the applications. With the huge pool of apps from S60, retaining the core OS to S60 is wiser.I have the N96 with me, and I believe that the underlying OS will not be any different than what it has now, albeit with a touchscreen interface on top of it. So to call this an iPhone killer, I'd like it to be able to do what the iPhone does and more, and that is smoth multitouching. It is the experience that ushers in the feeling of holding something that feels like it is next-gen, not by topping up humongous internal memory or gaudy panel arranging. If Nokia stuck with S60, the hardware may be next-gen on paper, but the UI is still stuck in the last century, ugly icons and grid lining and all. |

^I think u have to take in the amount of physical memory available into account, I think N79 has only less than 96 MB of RAM, the concept of virtual memory doesn't exist in Symbian. If you have seen other current phones has the ability to handle the tasks u throw in, then kindly name me the model and make.
and come on lar, if u can afford an N79, then u sure have a desktop or laptop in ur home, furthermore, what's the point of transmitting FM signal to the home stereo? I don't get it, many newer hifi even got USB port, it's not hard to load tons of mp3s into one thumb drive, using the FM transmitter will just degrade the sound quality. QUOTE(Otoyama88 @ Dec 5 2008, 01:40 PM) don't get so hype yet, so far none of us know how the 5th edition perform in the real world.Added on December 6, 2008, 1:28 am QUOTE(sharkteef @ Dec 5 2008, 07:23 PM) u still havent explained to me how u use all those apps at the same time ? one simple question, can your brain concentrate 100% on both things at the same time? wakaka u can open it, but it doesnt mean u're fully processing on it. u're streaming youtube, and u're listening to your music player. so what are u hearing exactly ? noise ? or are u some rockhard DJ ? you are one funny guy. so i will leave this as it is. if you'd like to learn what real multitasking on the phone is, you can pay me to teach you. for you i charge by the hour. sayonara funny man. @moderators - srry for being off topic. even in PC also the same, when an application is running in the foreground, all the other opened windows will be pushed to background, they still in process albeit the scheduler will give them lower priority. For single core processor, it can only execute 1 thread at one time, and the context switcher will switch between threads back and forth, hence your idea of "real" multitasking actually does not exist. From the N85 vs N96, it seems that N85 is what Nokia has experimented on their future CPU platform, which means in the future Nokia will avoid the dual CPU configuration ?
Anyway, graphics in most Ngage games are just barely comparable to NDS, can't even match PSP, but then who would want to charge their phone every 4 hours like PSP? |

QUOTE(-Torrz @ Dec 10 2008, 05:59 PM) Exactly, so all we have to do is jsut patiently wait while saving money to wait for the price to fall. Maybe end of 09 can get below 1.9k erm... I used to think the same for N95, when it just launched it was more than rm2k even for APset, then now sell at RM1.2k which I can afford now, but I no longer has interest on it anymore, its bulky size, sucky GPS and battery life issue turns me off. But nonethelss N95 means a new milestone for Nokia for built-in GPS, Wifi and 5 MP, but shortly after its siblings have come out with similar features at cheaper price. N97 could be another milestone of Nokia in the future, or perhaps 5800 could be used to benchmark the potential and performance of the touch based S60, hopefully any flaws discovered in 5800 could be used to improve the N97. |

the distinction between N series, E series and 5800 is getting blur, N97 will be the first ever to come with built in QWERTY in N series, which will raise a branding confusion with E series. And the decision to put 5800 under Xpressmusic line is really
As AMD slogan said the future is fusion, it seems Nokia knows this too |
