Just bought the Nokia N97. Black. RM2220.

Is there any way to scroll through the menus without using the scrollbar? My fingers are too big for the tiny area.

Overall, fantastic phone.

To add, are applications for the 5800 compatible with N97?

Widgets cannot be streamed via WLAN?

My connections are screwed up. Sometimes the widgets use WLAN, sometimes 3G.

My Web uses 3G at times, uses WLAN at times. I've set to "Ask First" whenever connecting to the Web, but it does not.

Sigh.

Guys, I have a problem.

I managed to set up my office mail (Outlook) on my N97. But the problem is, I can only view the mails that I have NOT read on my laptop in my N97. I cannot receive mails that have been viewed in my laptop. And everytime I retrieve the mail in my N97, the previous retrieved mails all gone!

Can someone please help me get around this?

Ah finally, after so many hours, I managed to set up my N97 properly.

Signed up for the Maxis 3G unlimited plan. Now I have Facebook, The Star and my Office email connected all the time on the net. Every 5 minutes my email server will check for new emails.

Thank God smile.gif

I'm utterly pissed right now.

My phone ran out of battery just now. I charged it and turned it on, and it asked me to "use my keyguard switch to unlock the screen". But the damn switch is not working! I can't even do anything now!

Anyone had this problem? I spent over RM2.2k and I can't even use it after 1 day! What the hell! I'm bloody furious now!

oh my this is bad.... no other way to unlock the screen then?

Apparently a lot of people on the net is suffering from the same issue.

I finally solved it though.

TIPS:

1) NEVER LET YOUR PHONE RUN OUT OF BATTERY

2) EVEN IF IT DOES, NEVER EVER USE THE USB CABLE TO CHARGE IT WHEN IT'S EMPTY, AND DON'T USE CAR CHARGER AS WELL

3) DON'T DOWNLOAD MAIL FOR EXCHANGE

I think that's the problem, it may be a firmware issue. But it sure did give me a bloody scare.

Hey guys. Does your N97 crash and reboot whenever you're using 3G?

It happened to me twice and it seems that it's a common problem.

Its very true that this phone sucks!!!  I used for 3 days then immediately sell it off. Maybe the update
firmware will helps improve the situation but i just couldn't wait & stand for its laggy performance &
short battery life.

Just signed up with Celcom for the HTC Magic, very happy with its performance especially the Android OS, cool !!

The HTC Magic to Nokia N97 is like a Proton to a Lambo.

It doesn't even have Java.

To prolong battery life, I suggest you put the homescreen content to offline mode. Keeping 3G on all the time is what eats up battery life fast.
*
I'm facing that problem.

I do keep my 3G connected all the time because I'm streaming Facebook and The Star on my homescreen, plus my office email is constantly connected and retrieving new emails every 5 minutes. I may have shorter battery life but I guess it's worth it, at least I'm maximising the usage of my phone.

I have one charger at home, one charger in my office and a car charger. I also have a spare battery so I think it's not too bad smile.gif

did u guys notice.. when incoming call, you can turn down the phone makes the screen facing the table, it will be silent.. pretty cool lah.. this is new feature or 5800 already has this function?
*
It's the proximity sensor located on the top left.

If you noticed, when you make a call, the moment your phone goes close to your face, the screen will turn dark, this is to avoid the large screen glaring your eyes.

Neat.

Really? I've tried on my own headphones (Grado SR-60 and Altec Lansing iM716, both amped) and they sucked sorta bad, especially the Bass, it basically screwed up all the trebles/vocal entirely and left you some muddy low quality bass. I don't know, it could be that I'm used to Sony X-1060 mp3 player recently and thus feeling this N97 music playing ability sucked. (But honest to god, N95's equalizer is better, raising up the bass doesn't makes it screwed like N97's.)
I sure hope that is true. Basically you have around,30mb+ of free memory after the phone is booted, and that is really bad lol.

I'm not sure if it's my problem but I've read some reviews around also stating the same problem.
It's not a big problem, so long it doesn't snapped in half after 1 year of usage.

You are probably right about the memory slot, I have to agree with you, but I was just saying the fact as well, it's really goddamned hard to remove the card once you put it in place nicely.
I only tried inserting it once and I swear to god I'll not do the second time.

The clapping sound is made to be like that. It's a prove how solid the phone is.

Go search on youtube "Making of Nokia N97" and you'll understand.

Here is my review after using the phone for 1 week with Maxis 3G Unlimited.

Loves:
1) Exquisite design. One of the best looker of a phone since Sony Ericsson K800i.

2) Chrome finishing at the border that exudes class and elegance.

3) Sturdy yet easy-to-operate lens protective cover.

4) Matte finishing back cover for enhanced grip.

5) Large, vibrant and very good-looking screen.

6) Touch-sensitive dial and hang-up buttons plus chrome Menu key.

7) The homescreen. One of the best feature I've seen in phones. I run Facebook, The Star and my office mail around-the-clock.

8) QWERTY keypad. Opens with a firm and assured snap. Keys are well laid out and easy to use.

9) 32GB of memory. Need I say more?

10) Touch vibration that never fails to respond.

11) Thoughtful implementations like the screen turning off when you place it near your face whenever you answer or make a call.

12) Accelerometer that is a joy to operate.

13) Connectivity. Bluetooth, WiFi, 3.5G.

14) Value-added applications like Qik, FM Transmitter, Google Maps, GPS etc.

15) Excellent web browser with full flash support (can watch YouTube without the mobile version).

16) Extremely sturdy design and dependable hinge.

17) Quick startup time.

18) Excellent telephony quality.

Many more I don't even remember. All I know is each and every time I slide the screen lock, I find this phone a real joy to use. It's like a new experience everyday.

Dislikes:

1) Fingerprint-prone screen and chrome finishing.

2) Camera not as good as I expected.

3) Phone rebooting bug whenever you are on 3G for long hours, though this rarely happened to me. But I'm sure it will be fixed in the firmware that is due to release in a few days time.

4) The pouch is too tight.

5) No active stylus. And I don't really fancy the size and the format of the given stylus.

6) Relatively weak battery life.

7) USB port for charging.

The pause in ringtone is due to the accelerometer.

You can't compare the iPhone to the N97, simply because they target to different people.

N97 is targeted to tech freaks, people who want all the function cramped into a stylish and sexy shell. N97 is also targeted to users who want the best of the N Series and E Series.

iPhone, however, is targeted to a niche market - the Apple fanboys. People who know their stuff in technology will never look at the iPhone twice, simply because even the Nokia N95, the N97's predecessor 2 generations ago, can even out-function it by miles.

So, yeah. It's different.
