want to ask if there's anyone here using PALIT HD4850 SONIC how'sthe performance and is the card is reliable?
QUOTE(tech3910 @ Nov 30 2008, 03:04 PM)
its just same as gainward GS.
Wow, till today, after over 4000 posts and 85000 views in the Gainward thread, people still asking this question. doh.gif

Ok guys, once again, Gainward 4850 GS is NOT the same as Palit 4850 Sonic. Gainward 4850 GS use a different cooler and has faster factory-overclocked core and mem speed.

For more details, click the links below.

If you need more info, please visit our Gainward Club thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/837220

Hope this make things clearer. Thanks.

But from reviews and own personal view of both item, the heatsink used is exactly the same, the fan also the same, PCB used also the same, just that the shroud is different.

The speed of Gainwards 4850 Golden Sample is 700Mhz Core and 1100Mhz Memory
Palit 4850 Sonic is 685Mhz Core and 1000Mhz Memory.

15Mhz less on the Core and 100Mhz less on the Memory.
Both cards are using samsung gddr3 IC's, both tend to max out at an average 750Mhz Core and 1200Mhz Memory on overclockng.

Eh why all the links you gave did not compare the Palit 4850 Sonic and the Gainward 4850 Golden sample head to head????  hmm.gif
Hi junkie_rubbish, Hi Lacus,

Gainward 4850 Golden Sample might look similar to Palit 4850 Sonic, but it's not the same. Aside from the obvious difference that Gainward 4850 GS has faster core and mem speed, I was told that Gainward use different PCB, ICs and heatpipes (nickel plated). Therefore, the overall overclockability & temp of Gainward 4850 GS should be better. Many have posted their Gainward temps and OC scores before, so just search around our Gainward threads or V3, V4 of this thread.

As for comparison, there are too many on the web. Just Google it. Here are 2 reviews done by Tweaktown:

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1569/1/pa...card/index.html

vs

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1607/1/ga...card/index.html (won the Tweaktown Best Performance Must Have award)

Eeeh.....Do you know Palit own gainward?Gainward did R&D for Palit for ATI card as well whistling.gif
So both is exactly the same, with different cooler.
What about this, you send gainward HD4850 GS for me to test and compare head to head with HD4850 Toxic(Maybe palit sonnic as well) whistling.gif Or you do the comparison and share the result. Also, dismantle the gc and tell us the difference you can spot between palit and gainward
Think of adding you into my ignore list, gosh traditional sales man technique.
My goodness, aside from you & cstk1 pompous and egoistic attitude, don't shoot yourself in the foot lar. doh.gif

1. If you said you are going to ignore me, then do it. Don't say it but don't do it.

2. Don't assume you know this and that compare to a distro. Are you in the loop for Palit Group internal operation, manufacturing and distribution business? And don't ask silly question like if we know Palit owns Gainward?

3. Don't say "exactly the same", then say "with different cooler". Do you know the meaning of "exactly"?

4. Unless you live in a cave, there are tons of Gainward 4850 GS reviews out there, and comparisons too. Here is one of them: http://www.geeks3d.com/?p=1480
Please use the Internet. We have no time to engage in fruitless banters with you and cstk1 except when we feel you both are misleading users re Gainward like in the case here.

i thought palit and gainward have their own r&d department
YES, you are right. But same manufacturing base for economy of scale. That's why Gainward can produce cards like 4870X2 Golden Sample Goes Like Hell which Palit doesn't have. Of course there are other differences and similarity which we are not at liberty to share here. rolleyes.gif

That is because they are the same thing, a simple hex comparison between both bios will explain it all. And like junkie_rubbish mentioned, Palit 4850 Sonic and Gainward 4850 Golden sample is the same thing down to the same PCB and component layout.
Doubt it? Take a hex comparison between both cards bios's , that would explain it all.
Ok, I stand corrected. Sorry. notworthy.gif I was just explaining what was briefed by Gainward to me from their slides. I was told it was different PCB but guess I have to cross-check with Gainward on it. So the only difference is the core and mem speed then?

Thanks for pointing this out. smile.gif

Errrrr, sorry to crash the party here but, Gainward announce HD4870x2 golden sample right after Palit announce HD4870x2 R700 Revolution.

they shares really the same design, just a different sticker...
Yes true, but Gainward 4870X2 Golden Sample Goes Like Hell is faster than Palit HD4870x2 R700 Revolution because it's core speed is 790+ Mhz. I was just trying to point out this difference here. Btw, does Palit 4870X2 R700 Revolution have DVI-I+DisplayPort+HDMI+VGA ports as well? What I normally received are Gainward slides and updates, not Palit ones.

Yes you are right on that, I will have to admit and agree. Sales "stuffs" is one of my job function. sweat.gif I do tried my best to keep it to news, updates on new models and reviews.

And I apologised for calling you and OC3/4 names. notworthy.gif It was uncalled for. icon_rolleyes.gif

kekek thats all u can say
my typo...

anyways last rebuttal for u

and take my advice on that
kaira already had a big fall on the nvidia cards with the xfx.
you guys will be the on course for the same trend if u think loyalty to gainward is because of branding

heck u could have come with so many arguments against palit distro rather than the brand.
with branding, service, rma time etc etc
yet u choose to ignore any form of reproof.

those who seen my recommendations and ask me on a very weekly basis knows i am impartial and take will take full responsibility on the advice i gave out
if anything was astray.
i doubt u will and just leave it to somebody else.

netraid was really good..
active on promoting his company netraid first second brand.

When I post, I wasn't "arguing", it's more like explaining from the slides Gainward sent to me often, esp the differences. But sometimes I got carried away because Gainward marketing slides can be "brainwashing". And I never doubted on your technical know-how, I learned a lot from it. thumbup.gif

We are learning from Netraid past good support. Please give us time.

Anyway, thanks for the input on the market. notworthy.gif
