Okay Im using samsung 19" Syncmaster 933BW with a native resolution of 1440 x 900
Now with Asus EAH 4850 , the one with glaciator fansink...the highest possible resolution I'm able to get is only 1280 x 1024. I tried downloading the latest driver, written 8.11 at their site and still can't get any higher. I tried changing the refresh rate, listing all the modes possible in adapter tab of the card and still the same...
What is going on?! Anyone have any ideas or faced similar issue before? Please help

Go to display setting, click on advance setting, find monitor tab and see just below the refresh rate setting, make sure the 'hide modes that this monitor cannot display' is UNTICK.
This should solve ur problem

i have a reference saphhire 4850. Bought it couple of month ago.
I am having a situation here.
After 30min of playing stalker:clear sky, my gc temp will go sky high, exceed 100c and the fan automatically increase speed which make very noisy sound(like vacuum). I set the fan to 50% and clearly it is not enough.
So i have some question here, how much fan speed to set for a normal temp while gaming.
why my gc overheat when playing stalker only? i Had played a lot of games like COD4, bioshock and even crysis with high setting, never facing overheat prob with 50% fan speed. i try clear dust in my pc but still same.
Is it my gc problem or stalker really take alot of juice on graphic card?

The 4800 series are even hotter with the reference heatsink design biggrin.gif.

Just get those with non reference design smile.gif, they do much better in thermal compared to the reference.

Totally agreed with you. See my last post in this thread then u will know i am having the temp problem with my 4850.
Apart from the temp issue, i am very impress by this gc.
Good gc for bang for buck. Totally satisfied
The down side is just need to manually set the fan speed to 70% before gaming and put it bc to 40% after that to prevent overheating

BTW where can i download 8.12 ccc and the converter, cant seem to find it here
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.../common-vista64
Only up to 8.11

i don't have temp problem with my 4850 wink.gif...just slap on it a 3rd party cooler and u're good to go..i prefer reference card over non-reference card anyway wink.gif 8.12 is not released until next week biggrin.gif

Is zalman gv1000 3rd party cooler ok with 4850? The price i can get is around rm210, is it worth it or i have other choice better than this?

I dunno whether is my 4850 cooler faulty or the thermal paste dried up.
This few months my card get hot very easily. Play DOW2 for about 15 minute, the temp go high up until 100-104c with 55% fan speed.
So i have to set the fan speed to 80% only it go down to 95-98c.
If idle, with 50% fan speed, the temp also almost 68c.
So want to ask is my temp normal? Or i should change the thermal paste just in case it dried out
THX in advance

how old is your 4850? if it has been more than 1 yr already. then u can remove the cooler and replace the thermal paste. the cooler is pretty easy to remove.

Think will do as you said. My gc almost 9 months nv clean before.
But i have no idea how to take off the cooler?
Is it very easy?
Can i use tuniq tx-2 which i use for my cpu to apply on my gc?

Just changed my 4850 thermal paste from stock paste to tuniq-tx2.
Well now my temp is better. Idle about 64C with 55%fan
No more exceeding 100C after gaming, maintaining around 93-94C.
I know it is still hot but at least it cooled down my gc for 10C !!!!
Well when i open the heatsink i found out that the RAM is covered by one spongy-spongy layer. I dunno why it is there so i dun dare to take it out?
Anyone know what is the spongy thing for? IMO, it will just reduce the heat conduction.
One more thing, when i open the gpu, i found out that the stock thermal paste was so much until it leak out from the slot.
Is it the mistake by sapphire technician? Shouldn't thermal paste be only like one thin layer?

EXACTLY. That's what they're supposed to do. Hey, you don't want your ram chips to run at the same temps as your GPU core, do you?
Depends on the type of thermal paste. If you use AS5, then that applies. If you use Tuniq TX-2(it's better than AS5 anyway), that doesn't apply.

Let's just assume those stock thermal paste aren't conductive  laugh.gif

Oh, AFAIK. good ventilation casings run 4850 stock cooler on 85C~90C.

Wow, thx for the clear explaination, luckily din take out the thermal pad. I think soon will need to find a better cooler coz cannot stand the 55% fan speed, it is indeed the mose noisy thing in my oc.
Or should i just sell it and buy 4890/4870 in stead? will the performance increase alot?

Is the cooler enough for this hot card?
Anyone here use vf700 for 4850? can provide some temp reading, cannot find must through google.

@him, temps should b quite decent cause my previous 3870 is using it.ooh, the disadvantage is it only cools the core, mem only the 1 in the middles :/
*
the vf-700 package include 8 ram sink. So i think it wont be any problem. The main concern is the temperature reading because scare this cooler wont cool down 4850 well. Well vf700 for only rm80 is certainly cheap and somemore my gc reach 95-100c after 2-3 hour gaming, making the card automatically increase the fan speed to 100% which is quite load and annoying.
