Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR (entry level)
Budget: RM2000 or less (Second hand also accept, but with perfect condition)
Your Location: Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur.
Preferable brand : Nikon, Canon
Type of photography u want to do : Daily, nature, city, macro, etc
Any specific models in mind? : Currently eyed on Nikon D40 and Canon 1000D (recommend me if there's better and cheap ones)
Any specific features u want? : Great image quality, megapixel doesn't matter if overall IQ is good, ease to use (not really important), good functions

Ken Rockwell praised D40, and I'm interested with it. But regarding the megapixels, although it doesn't really matter if I don't print REAL LARGE photo, but well, I need sifus' recommendations.

BTW, quote me the latest prices for the models (new set with kit and second hand prices). Thanks

The D60 has better built quality too, probably the only negative points is one hav to use AF-S/I built in motor lens. Non motorized lens can't be used.

Where's the canon will do with EF-S/EF

How about the 6.1MP D40? I read Ken Rockwell's website, he highly recommends D40 over D60, as he said that the difference between D40 and D60 is only the megapixels and the dust cleaning mechanism. Well I know megapixel doesn't affect much of the image quality unless im printing really large size photos. I am still a student, of course the best valued DSLR i will choose. So, D40, is it ok?

if limited lens for further upgrade is not a worry, then should be fine.but for price of d40 kit,is better u pay extra rm300++ to get d60 kit since d60 kit come with 18-55 vr

Err sorry, I'm a newbie to photography, mind explain what is the difference between VR lens and non-VR lens?

EDIT: ok I got it, VR is vibration reduction. But the light sensitivity in D60 is lower than D40 (iso 100 and iso 200), and the flash sync speed of D60 is also slower (1/200 compared with D40-- 1/500)... So i might still choose the d40. Anyone want to convince me to get a D60?

Note: Megapixels and dust doesnt matter for me.

zellleonhart..
hmm why dont you consider D40x?
has almost everything of D60 except the dust cleaning

Added on March 30, 2009, 11:44 pmactually the 18-55 VR lens with SWM will actually enhance your shooting experience and will get you more keeper shots with the VR

Sorry, if like that i will choose D60... But i am going to buy D40, bcuz of the higher light sensitivity (iso 200) and flash sync speed (1/500). Both d60 and d40x are usig iso 100 and 1/250 flash sync iirc

@zellleonhart - I agree on the flash sync speed advantage of the D40 over newer models, but bear in mind, D40, D40x and D60 ISO can be set higher than 100. IIRC they can go up to ISO1600. biggrin.gif You are only comparing the minimum ISO for the cameras.

I noe about the minimum ISO... Nonetheless, D40 is still my choice XD

You mean more than 1500 or less? <1500 or >1500?
If less than, D40 might suit you. I am using it also. Dont look down at its 6.1mp, it never fail me.
Both 40D and 1000D are out of your budget if you are finding <1500. D40 is RM1600~1800, but i believe you can find RM1430 one in garage sales.
