Go for the Ixus 85 IS then - it's one of the best in its price range, or if you can bump your budget up a bit go for the Fuji F100Fd or F200EXR.

tippman, for 1k i guess you cant go wrong with the Ixus 870IS
comes with IS, wide angle lens and noise handling isn't too bad

better go for 870 as it has digic 4 processor, bigger screen and wider angle lens.
the only extra features ofr 9xx series is manual control which most users doens use
also for normal use, 4-5 MP is mroe than enough! haha..

For 80 vs 85 vs 95,
i would say go for 80.
8 MP is more than enough. the other features are almost the same.
the price diference is huge!

u can give panasonic fs15 a look, a very good point-n-shot based on the specs.. price about rm799 and shud be lower a bit now

Why not give the Canon a shot? Ixus 85 IS goes for RM800 

Or maybe you can consider.... let's see. Fujifilm F100fd? Its price should be lower now but the previous price was Rm1k. 

The FE series is a budget-camera series, don't think you should go for it unless you have a RM500 budget or something.
