Type of camera/lens/accesories : compact DC with good looking
Budget: around 1.5k
Your Location: KL
Preferable brand : Sony or Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : daily shot, advertising, products shot, travel, good image quality without many configuration and lesser noise...
Any specific models in mind? : Sony T700, Nikon S60 or Panasonic LX3, others

T700 and S60 bcoz of its touch screen auto focus and design, any suggest else ?
*
you have bold the good image quality and lesser noise.
for that reason you should throw out Sony T series.
it's only a good slim camera with average image quality.
touch screen is just for fun only.

for serious image quality, you should get a LX-3

i would say D90 because it's value for money
it's cheaper than 50D

can always go try out in the shop and see which one you prefer
if you have more frens using either one then you can "loan" their lens!

sure film slr can do bokeh
infact it can do bokeh easier compared to entry level DSLR.

only down side is you need to develop the pictures then only you can see the results

Budget : RM1500
Your Location : Taiping (But i'll buy somewhere else)
Preferable brand : Canon
Type of photography u want to do : Daily Stuff
Any specific models in mind? : Cannon ixus series. 970? 950? 860? 850?
Any specific features u want? : Good quality shots, anti shake, good focus, auto timer, long lasting battery, etc etc. Everything a camwhore needs.

Please help immediately  blush.gif
*
wow with 1500 budget you can get a really decent compact camera.
ixy 850 n 860 are old model and very hard to find.
replaced by 870 which is quite good.
9xx series dont have wide angle i think.
or you can top up to 1700 to get a Lumix LX3 but you get shorter zoom
but the image quality is thumbup.gif
you get some manual mode too if you want to explore more into photography

hi guys, wanna ask i havea budget of RM1.3k i wanna buy a camera with great indoor shots, its a nightmare with all my powershots, its either flash overexpose or under, sometimes unatural colours, without external flash to fill in its a problem,

so any recommendation ?
*
powershot series is one of the better cam.
i think you need to learn to use the camera before blaming it.
indoor night shot you need to use the scn mode and set it to night.
if set to auto you will see only the subject and no back ground.
try out those scn mode and you will see a big diff in your pic nod.gif

does lumix count as prosumer ? checked the image and it was kinda bulky. do u know any slim camera that have maybe a bit lower quality(maybe the price too) than the lumix  ? blink.gif does it need like additional flash or lens or something ? kinda blur here yawn.gif
*
which lumix you are talking about?
if it's lx3 then it's considered a compact camera.
go touch it n feel it instead of judging from pictures.
it's not as compact as ultra compact cameras la but still decent
it's considered prosumer compact camera

it has built in flash actually

Hi,

I am planning to buy a digital camera. I have two choice here, and I wish expert can tell me which one is better camera.

Canon Powershot A1000IS - RM649
Canon Ixus 85s - RM760

Thanks for ur reply... rclxms.gif
*
actually both are very good and capable camera.
depends on what you need it for.
if ultra compact and stylist, then cant go wrong with ixus
dont mind the size then powershot - that's why it's cheaper wink.gif

go to canon sales center and test /molest whistling.gif
see which one you like better icon_rolleyes.gif

since you are considering the 40D then better get that instead of 450D.
it's much better than 450D.
40D is considered mid point while 450D is beginer
think 3k can get you a 40D with a kit lens.
good enough to start and learn.
add more arsenal after that brows.gif

ixus 70?
think that model is uite old right?
dont think it has Image stabilizer too
think you can get ixus for less than 1k but it doesnt have wide angle so your lanscape photo not as wide. might need to stich a few pics together

i wouldn't say the White balance is bad
the only time you see it being too warm is in tungsten lighting (not all low light)
actually all canon cameras are like that. you can set it to tungsten to get better WB but then some times i think the yellow cast adds to the mood

hi there,

thanks for the advice.. actually, my preference is towards canon, since like waht you says it can be meddle around.. i felt much comfortable with that.. by the way, between 1000D and 450D which one will you prefer? interms of quality? and functionnality, i know that 450d have 2more Af points compare to 1000D. i wanted to get a good cam that can last me some time... and that i can use it for a long time... and at the same time fullfils my 3k budget. mind give me your personal opinion?
*
In terms of built quality these 2 are on par. i would even say they are exactly the same as 1000D body is almost the same as 450D. they even use the same battery grip.

Eye proximity sensor, 2 extra AF point, IR receiver to me is not that important.
the only thing extra is spot metering. but 1000D has partial metering which is close to spot and manually adjust exposure if still not good enough

the additional RM 600 to me is alot. with that money can almost get a 55-250 IS lens already

i would say get the canon 40D.
make sure you get that with the 18-55 IS lens.
the non IS one is optically inferior to the one with IS

The bag can ask them to give for free
the rest of the stuff doesnt cost that much!

Entirely up to you - camera prices don't fluctuate much unless there is a new model for that category of camera released.
Canon 1000D, sell off kit lens, bump up budget a bit more and get the 18-200mm (if you're looking for an all-rounder lens)

*
he wants a camera for 2-3k and you recommend him a 2k lens!
why not just add 55-250 IS to it?

Hocan, i think you meant the sensor full frame?
it means the sensor is same size as the film that we use last time.
ie 35mm. the usual entry level DSLR normally will have sensor size of about 22mm that's why it's called crop (eg 1.6x)

What about Canon 450D? Is it any good compared to the ones I mentioned earlier?
*
Canon 450D is considered entry level but i think i'll be better than the Olympus.
Depends on your budget and what you want your DLSR to do actually.
Olympus advantage is the smaller size

Wow..your budget very big range.
Suggest you to get a D90 or the 40D if you can still find it.
40D is about 3.2k with the IS kit lens.
D90 is abit more.
Go play with both or loan from your fren and see which one suits you

any camera is suitable for entry level.
just depends on your wallet only tongue.gif
but if you want to go with nikon, i would suggest the D90 to start. dont even bother with D60

i need suggestion for buying new dslr camera..
...im new with dslr

any suggestion?  icon_question.gif
*
since you are new with dslr, then i would suggest you to start off cheaply 1st.
if you can get the hang of it then only upgrade.
camera body can get 1000D or 450D with the IS kitlens.
about 2-3k
if you like landscape then suggest you tokina 11-16 mm F2.8
or want more budget, 12-24 mm f4. around 2k+
for portrait..just learn to use the kitlens 1st. it can do amazing stuff.
still have abit more budget, get a nissin di622 speedlight or even canon 430 exII if can you afford it.
remember to set asisde some budget for memory, bag, UV filter, lenspen etc.
some shops might give you free thumbup.gif

hi there ! nid recommendation again.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR
Budget: 2.1k maximum. the cheaper the better
Your Location:
Preferable brand : canon / nikon / sony
Type of photography u want to do : Portrait, landscape, light trail, hdr, makro, silhoutte
Any specific models in mind? : a200, d60, 100d
Any specific features u want? : impressive image quality

hi, its me again. i have a pns now (lawya only tho). So now kinda have my interest in dslr since i have a camera for holiday trips already. any advice please ? a cons and pros for each of the model if its not too much too ask biggrin.gif icon_question.gif and i kinda liked the a200 since i molest it few time already. but just as people said, the cost to upgrade lens would be higher ? true ah ? no idea  icon_question.gif

p/s : im a student, therefore i wont be upgrading my lens till like 3-4 years if this is a factor biggrin.gif
*
hi there ted bunny..
i choose the 1000D because

over D60:
has more AF 4 more points so can choose and get the best focus without doing focus and recompose
no need to worry about lens with motor or not!
has live view (useful only in certain situation)
over A200:
better noise control
more lens selection and some if not most lens are cheaper than Zeiss or what not

A200 advantage: has body image stabilizer

wow..1st time i hear a LX3 can beat a low end DSLR blink.gif

Bubbles, for you starting out with DLSR, i would suggest getting a 1000D and you can add a 55-250 IS lens. with these 2 lens, you get 18-250 zoom range. quite enough. play with it then see how it goes from there
price should be less than 2.9k thumbup.gif

Er..ZeneticX...there's no point for you to compare megapixels.
for me 3 megapixels is more than enough.
anything more just going to waste storage space. unless you do cropping n stuff la.

tedbunny, the A200 is abit old camera IMHO.
the noise handling is not on par even with 1000D.
i think for you better to just stick with the lens kit 1st.
find out what you want to shoot then only add lens.
Canon only has 50mm f1.8 happy.gif
but that is the cheapest lens so you can grab it if you want
