When is ur fren's birthday? For compact cams I always liked Panasonic, and Canon.
It depends on what type of photography your friend takes.

QUOTE(Ejay @ Jan 30 2009, 02:40 PM) Does D60 offer more feature than A200 ? Whats the main different between this 2 model ? Can u let me know the exact price of this 2 model ? Look like D60 > A200 , might go for it . my opinion, if you want to use your camera for long and enjoy upgrading/playing with accesories, then for Sony it'll be very expensive. I tried Sony's entry level dslrs before, and the build quality just doesnt suit my taste.. This post has been edited by Andy Lo: Jan 31 2009, 09:42 PM

I think rm2700 can get you 450D with kit lens and 50mm f1.8 lens.

QUOTE(reloadedprimus @ Feb 1 2009, 01:21 AM) u mean i can get 2 lenss ? Ya... 450D with kit lens retails at around RM2500, and the 50mm f1.8 is about RM350. But I'm sure if you get a good deal, the price of the 450D kit might drop to around RM2350 perhaps? Sony's kit lens is 18-70mm of course, a litle bit adcvantage over Canon's 18-55mm, but when buying a dslr, look further. Sony's lenses are expensive! LOL... It's up to u. QUOTE(joyyy @ Feb 1 2009, 01:21 AM) RM2700 can get you a new 40d body. 18-55mm kit lens is only about RM15x Kit lens 18-55 only RM150+? Where to find? With or without IS? If below RM200 for a IS version I will go for it.

QUOTE(@meno @ Feb 1 2009, 06:04 PM) Regarding your statement above, i don't recall seeing a major price difference between Sony lenses of the same specs over the other brands. One might argue that there are less sony lenses available at this point of time but with the Alphas selling like hot cakes, i suppose we'll see more accessories and lenses being added to the fleet soon. From my last check on Yamiya, the sony lenses are pretty well priced and the 3rd party lenses are priced similiarly to the Nikon mount and Canon mounts. Again, be it an A200, a D60 or a 1000D, there's no clear winner who is better than the other. The differences in quality is subjective and what matters most would be which allows you better control over the camera, the way the buttons are place, the way the grip is shaped. Having a comfortable feel on your camera will be one of the most important thing when it comes to choosing an entry level DSLR. Ya quite true also. Grip important. I'm still trying hard to get a good grip on my Canon. Sony's grip is good.

QUOTE(vv001 @ Feb 1 2009, 09:39 PM) hi guys, Wanna ask, in the current market and global condition, do you guys expect DSLR price to go down? Is it the right time to get a DSLR? Thanks^^ Never too early or too late to get a DSLR... Price won't change much, but technology will. So if want to buy, just buy. Don't wait and hope for price to do down, the waiting never will end.

QUOTE(teddbundy @ Feb 6 2009, 07:41 PM) have other question again in mind. sory for asking i told my friend about the Lumix LX3 which TheWandererX told me before. then my friend told me i should better off get the Nikon D60, sony alpha a200 or Canon eos 1000D if im not mistaken. But then i thought that the DSLR wouldnt be able to make me take my own picture(like taking pics with phone camera), unlike the LX3. I'm also quite new to photography and never really owned a camera (the only camera i actually owned was a 3.2mp phone camera). But i actually liked the features on the DSLR that can make me adjust all the settings. tho, the Lumix also can adjust right ? but compared to the image quality, i found that the D60 did a better job than LX3 (obviously shouldnt it ? ). and the a200 is also more cheaper than LX3. thus making me more confused now. Quite confused here.. help me please. DSLR and pns cameras are of different levels.... You have to really have passion in photography or else buying a dslr will be wasting time and money.

QUOTE(cks2k2 @ Feb 10 2009, 09:38 PM) For roughly the same price, should I go for the Canon EOS 1000D or Nikon D60? Noob here venturing in DSLR so trying not to splash too much cash on the 1st purchase. The D60 comes with some extras like tripod and cleaning kit. Don't greed for the tripod ad cleaning kit. I think they will most probably give you China cleaning kit and Digieye, and these two are not worth getting. Added on February 11, 2009, 2:54 amQUOTE(jcheok2 @ Feb 10 2009, 01:57 AM) well i guess i have sort of decided D80 over D90 , considering i can save another rm1000+ maybe for a flash or something like that.. a forumer quoted me rm2900 for new D80 18-135mm kit, anybody thinks its a bad idea ? D90 is a newer cam, but with additional functions that only adds fun IMO... Newer processors bla bla bla some of these are just marketing. If you already have a budget limit, then D80+Flash will be much better than D90 without flash. This post has been edited by Andy Lo: Feb 11 2009, 02:54 AM

QUOTE(Altruis @ Feb 16 2009, 11:54 PM) Type of camera: prosumer Budget: <2k Looking for a slightly more advanced camera to replace my aging Ixus 750. Interested in the more advanced features of DSLRs but not ready to use such bulky units, as I often take pictures while mountain hiking, etc where large, heavy cameras are a big no-no. Currently looking at Panasonic DMC-LX3. Any sifus here have any recommendations? Try Panasonic FZ50? Old model, discontinued but can still find in some shops. There's a used unit in Penang for around RM800. It's got mechanical zoom lens(internal telescopic) + ETTL hotshoe, so you can also get a Olympus flash. Quite decent movie mode also. Not sure about other models but I've always loved toe FZ50. It has brought me wonders and places.
