Hi Guys and Sifu's here, My name is Kelvin and I am looking to purchase a DSLR. My current budget is around 4-4.5k max and so I am looking at 2 cameras, the Nikon D90 and Canon EOS 500D.
The D90 is going for RM4.1k with 18-105mm VR Kit Lens and the Canon EOS 500D is going for 4.5k with 18-200mm IS Bundle Lenses. Well here is my question, as a newbie to DSLR's, is it better more me to get the D90 and get the 18-105mm kit lens and then upgrade later once my skills are more polished?
Or is it better value to get the 18-200mm for the Canon EOS 500D? - I'm in dilemma now because the Canon can take better HD Videos than the D90, but the D90 has (Arguably) better build and better feeling for me.. And for 4.5k, I will be able to get the Canon Bundle with the 18-200mm, which I heard is a quite good zoom lens..
I have tried both DSLRs and as my friend has an 500D, I have been to the malls and felt the D90 for myself, I feel it has good build and albeit a bit heavier, I like the D90.
So Sifu's, please enlighten and help me! xD - Of which is the better choice? Of course, other alternatives are welcome~! =)
DILEMMA DILEMMA..
P/S: I heard that Amcorp Mall in PJ is a great place to get DSLRs because of the competitive pricing, are there any places with good prices as well? *Laughs*
Thanks guys! =)
Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR
Budget: 4-4.5k
Your Location: KL
Preferable brand : Nikon or Canon
Type of photography u want to do : General Photography
Any specific models in mind? : D90 Kit Lens (18-105mm VR) or EOS 500D with Bundle Lens (18-200mm IS)
Any specific features u want? : Not really, HD Video is a bonus, but most importantly is I wanna use the DSLR to shoot human portraits..
D90 has better build- no doubt. The 500d + 18200 lens is really tempting. Coz u have the super zoom from wide to zoom, then u can discover your shooting style better and quicker. However, once u bought a brand, it would be very hard for you to jump to another brand again. I can tell you now both of the camera is equally good in terms of Picture quality. But if i were you, i will go for d90, because it has better build and a top screen. Video isnt important in DSLR, they sux anyways. 18105 is quite a good lens to start with too.

Alright, i will go check it up. But i hear from most photographers that the Sony@ series isnt that great for a dslr.
and i can get lens in cheap price from here and there. Btw, nice Dp. Darth Maul Mighty Mug

i have a few my own.
thank's for ur time and advise

haha..thx.. Coz Nikon is always referred to the DarkSide. So i put it up.
Sony is not tht bad also, they have cheapest and most innovative flash - the f58. If you are talking about higher series, then they might lose out a bit when compared to Nikon and Canon. But we as hobbyist, we don care whts up above.

hi everyone
I'm new to dslr and trying to decide which nikon model to go for
Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR
Budget : Max. RM 3-4k for a new set
Your Location : KL
Preferable brand : Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : portraits, landscape, macro
Any specific models in mind? : D90, D3000 and D5000
I'm going for a backpack early next year, so I'm thinking to invest into a dslr right now. My brother is using d90 kit lens and that is one of the reason why i chose to go for nikon so that we can easily interchange lens in future.
Could someone please let me know what are the biggest differences between d90, d5000 and d3000?
What i noticed right now is that on d90 you can change the aperture more easily as it had a separate jog wheel for it.
And d90 have built in motor for lens to autofocus, while not all lens can autofocus on d5000 and d3000
is there any important things that i missed out?
I'm on a dilemma whether to go for a good body and use the kit lens, or get a cheaper body and go for a better lens. I can only afford slightly more than 4k right now, any suggestions?
D90 biggest different with d5000 and d3000 is the top screen and the 920k pixels screen. Go for d90, u wouldnt want to be jealous of your brother's d90. Even if u go for the cheapest d3000..u only have 2k left...u cant get any lens better than 18105. If u know wht lens u going to get..pls tell me..i'll see whether it is suitable or not.

Type of camera/lens/accesories: DSLR
Budget: 2k~2.5k MAX
Your Location: UUM SINTOK
Preferable brand : NIKON OR SONY ALPHA
Type of photography u want to do : events, candid,DINNER, anything assignment OF COS...
Any specific models in mind? : think for sony a200w for rm2099 with lens(see on sony website) n dunno anything about canon
Any specific features u want? :blur background maybe
help me...im dunno nothing about dslr and i need it for my course media tech at uum + see other people who carrying their dslr so cool........
help me and give all comment or suggesstion..or just pm me..dunno where to ask la..
If u can still find the a200, then go for it...blur ground image depends on lens...not the camera. You need buy those lenses seperately, but the kit lens is able to produce blur background shots too, but juz tht it is not strong blur background. DSLR is cool to bring around, the trend is here....but if u r buying a DSLR juz to show off...then i think u r wrong. If u too rich, then nvm la..lol

Hi all...
Am having dilemma now in choosing between A330, D60 and D3000.
Had briefly tried out these 3 models by some simple random shots and holding on it, I'd say that Nikon has the best feel (in terms of grip and build quality/material) comparing to cheapo-built Sony.
But the cons for these 2 Nikon models are no tilted screen not like what Sony has. And D60 has only 3 focus points (is this important?) unlike 11 on the D3000. And Sony has the poorest build quality with very plasticky feel, smaller grip size (as compared to Nikon and even my old trusty A300), and toy-alike lens.
I'd really appreciate any comments from anyone who owned either of these 3 models. I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'm torn between these 3 DSLRs~!

yes focus point can be important for newbies. D3000 is d60 successor...thats why it is better. A330 is packed with lots of feature, such as wireless flash. D3000 doesnt, you need at least d90 and above to do tht. If u like the tilt screen + focus point + good build....try look at d5000...
