Actually, u only need the i386 folder in the win XP disc. Try to get the folder.
The other alternative are njstar, chinese star. They are not free.
I cant think of any freeware.

If i'm not mistaken you can try to locate the i386 folder in your C:\ and install it from there. Some manufacturers leave the folders in C:\ for situations like this.

Unfortunately you might almost certainly need the Windows XP CD, and since anything that has got to do with piracy and/or unauthorised distribution of copyrighted material(s) is deeply frowned upon, I'm afraid your only recourse is to get a Windows XP CD.

http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/handson...xpintlsupp.mspx

Third party software like Chinese Star, NJStar would also fix the 'those squares and lines' but it's not free.

The following links are excellent resources for Chinese word processing in Windows. No CD required.
http://mailer.fsu.edu/~flan/chinese/docume..._processing.htm
http://newton.uor.edu/Departments&Programs...china-comp.html

Hope it helps.

theres 2 way...
1) from Windows XP CD - no matter SP, SP1 or SP3 (the easiest way)
2) download the language file from microsoft website (unless if you have genuine Microsoft office[not your Windows...weird right?].. not pirate one....)

so, better borrow from your friends..
because i already install it.. ^^
to type in japanese..you should give a try dude

I suggest,
1.
overwrite standard set up computer's c:\windows\inf\intl.inf
to your problematic c:\windows\inf\intl.inf

2.
copy standard set up computer's c:\windows\font\*.*
(about 230MB)
to your problematic c:\windows\font\

* this is not simple copy, but font install process(alert windows will appear)

3.
apply locale u want
..
in my case..no erred, good luck
