(From left) Season’s Club manager Lee Chee Ti, Koo Pei Chi and her father, Koo Chee Meng, at the cheque presentation ceremony at Balai Berita. KUALA LUMPUR: Koo Pei Chi is RM13,000 short of the RM63,000 she needs for complex heart surgery scheduled at Gleaneagles Hospital next month. Since Pei Chi's need for heart surgery was highlighted earlier this month, RM50,000 has been collected. Donations from New Straits Times readers total about RM10,000 and the American International Assurance company has donated RM15,000. Her father, case operator Koo Chee Meng, has managed to come up with RM10,000 from his savings. And yesterday, the management of Season's Club, a recreational club in Ampang, chipped in with another RM15,000. "We read about her plight in the newspapers and decided to help her, " said club manager Lee Chee Ti at the cheque presentation ceremony at Balai Berita. If you wish to help Pei Chi, you can send a cheque payable to the New Straits Times , with her name written on the back, to the Finance Department/ Charity Unit, The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur. GEORGE TOWN: Yee Yong Khong's family is relieved that the boy, who will be 4 on Friday, is on the road to recovery after undergoing an operation to treat a congenital heart condition. However, their joy is tampered with worry over how to pay for Yong Khong's medical bills, which has amounted to an estimated RM25,000. Yong Khong had undergone surgery at the Gleneagles Medical Centre here recently to repair a hole between the two upper chambers of his heart. His father Yee Chee Siong, 37, works in Singapore as a storekeeper earning RM2,600 a month, while his mother Kok Phey Shee, 32, is a housewife. They have raised RM3,000 to pay for their only child's medical bill. The family is now appealing to the public to help them raise the funds to pay for Yong Khong's medical bills. Facing a similar plight is the family of two 3-year-olds, who also underwent operations at the same hospital recently. Syed Muhammad Naim Syed Mahdzar had an operation to relieve the narrowing of major blood vessels of the heart. His parents are having difficulty coming up with the RM30,000 needed to pay for his surgery and hospital bills. His father, Syed Mahdzar Syed Othman, 48, a gardener in a school in Perlis, earns RM1,700 a month while his mother, Anita Abdul Rahim, 34, is a housewife. Ting Yek Peng's surgery was to correct a hole between the two upper chambers of the heart and a narrowing of the artery carrying blood to the lungs. The estimated cost of the surgery is between RM28,000 and RM30,000. Her father Ting En Chai, 40, a mechanic in Nibong Tebal, earns RM1,500 a month, while her mother, Chin Mui Neuk, 40, a hairdresser, earns RM450 a month. The family has raised RM2,000. Twenty years ago, the organisation set up a special fund to help a past president's daughter who suffered from heart disease. Members donated generously but sadly, the little girl did not survive. Now the same fund is giving one-year-old heart patient Nurul Iman Arisya Idris a new lease of life. The toddler recently underwent a corrective heart surgery to repair a hole in her heart. JCI Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday presented a cheque for RM2,000 to the New Straits Times (NSTP) Charity Fund to assist Nurul Iman. It will ease the cost of surgery which amounts to RM32,000. "We strongly believe in giving back to society," said its president Kevin Tang, adding that the organisation was also hoping to set an example to the other JCI chapters. So far, Nurul Iman has received RM17,000. She still needs another RM15,000 to cover the surgery cost at Gleneagles Medical Centre in Penang. Those who wish to help can send cheques made payable to NSTP Charity Fund with her full name written on the reverse, to: The Cashier, Finance Department/Charity Unit, The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, 31, Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Fri...icle/index_html 2008/11/28 Children in need of surgery funds GEORGE TOWN: Two-year-old Muhammad Ariff Haikal Muhammad Nor Azri had an operation recently to correct congenital heart defects. They were a hole between the two lower chambers of the heart and an abnormal connection between two major blood vessels of the heart. His parents now need RM32,000 to pay for the surgery done on their only child at the Gleneagles Medical Centre here. His father, Muhammad Nor Azri Fisal, 24, a constable in Batu Kurau, Perak, earns RM1,000 a month, while his mother, Norhaslida Saleh, 27, a customer service clerk in Penang, earns RM1,500 monthly. Five-month-old Ng Qi Heng also had an operation at the same hospital recently to correct a hole-in-the-heart condition. He also has Down's syndrome. His parents, Ng Boon Beng, 39, and Poh Lee Yin, 37, of Bukit Mertajam, cannot afford to pay for the surgery estimated to cost between RM28,000 and RM30,000. They have combined salaries of RM2,200. Four-month-old Inbarasen Krishna Kumar, also faces the same situation as Qi Heng. His parents cannot afford the RM30,000 needed for an operation. His father, Krishna Kumar Bangaroo, 36, is unemployed, and his mother, Khogilam Subramaniam, 34, is a housewife. They have two other children aged 2 and 5. how sad i was after reading all the post and feedback from people regarding asking to help, donations, pledges, etc.
Is it that hard now to ask people to donate, etc? where has the basic of being a human being: being humble, caring, kindness and other good values? Please, if u wish to donate, please do so... and with many many thanks, if u r not interested, please, do not post useless reply condemning this and that... I''m not being boasting, commercializing, sympathizing or whatsoever... I work in a NGO charity organizations... being working here, has given me the understanding of the needs of being kind, humble, etc. whatever the conditions of a person, patients, accident patients, etc. Imagine if this is your family members, relatives, your friends, etc.... take awhile of short thinking, close your eyes, relax and think if this HAPPENS to u! I had called NST and pledged my donations... what is the amount, doesn't need to disclose.... follow your instincts.. not your manners of reading the articles, your comments, feedbacks, etc. sincerity comes from the bottom of your heart! u make the difference of a live! (See link for picture) New Straits Times Heart babies in need of aid KUALA LUMPUR: Phang Ker Xing is only 2 months old, but she faces the prospect of undergoing three operations before she is 5. Soon after she was born, she was diagnosed with a hole-in-the-heart. She needs a RM20,000 operation to correct the defect. In the coming weeks, she will need another operation to reduce blood flow to the lungs and to prepare her for a third operation when she is 4. Her father, Phang Wu Thong, is a promoter and earns RM1,500 a month. Her mother, Yeo Wen Kee, is not able to work as she has to look after her. Another child who needs help is Wong Zhi Xin. The 3-month-old infant also has a hole-in-the-heart problem. If the surgery was not done quickly it could be fatal as she would suffer irreversible lung damage, said paediatrician Dr Lim Miin Kang of Gleneagles Intan Hospital. Her lorry driver father, Wong Chian Kang, earns RM1,800 a month, and her mother, Chin Lee Jiuan, is a homemaker. "I can only raise about RM3,000, and we need about RM25,000 for my daughter's operation," said Wong. If you wish to help Ker Xing or Zhi Xin, send a cheque payable to NSTP Charity Fund, with either or both their names written on the back to The Cashier, Finance Department/Charity Unit, The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur. |

QUOTE(adrianck @ Dec 23 2008, 08:01 PM) usually, depends on the victim or the family.... but standard practice is either they donate to other similar disease patients... or to charitable organizations or orphan homes, old folks home No one ensures that happens right? so if they get hundreds of thousands in donations they could just as easily keep it and no one would be any the wiser. |

(From left) Teh Ling Bee with Yuga Ganesh, Rafizah Daud with Rezki Muhayat Shah also at Glenegales Intan Hospital Kuala Lumpur yesterday. He has transposition of the great arteries, in which the two major blood vessels in the heart are switched. An arterial switch operation is done to redirect the blood vessels to their correct heart chambers. The surgery and follow-up treatment will cost about RM35,000, and his father, Lok Jin Myen, only earns RM2,000 a month. Four-month-old Yuga Ganesh also needs corrective heart surgery. His doctors are now working on getting his weight a kilogramme up before they can operate. He now weighs 5kg. His father, P. Nathan, a part-time office boy, earns between RM1,400 and RM1,600 monthly. His wife, Teh Ling Bee, was recently retrenched and the couple have three other children. Paediatric cardiologist Dr Lim Miin Kang said the baby needed a "Glenn shunt" to connect the blood vessel that returns blood from the head and neck to the blood vessel to the lungs. This will improve the blood flow to the lungs. The total cost of the operation is RM47,000. In 6-year-old Rezki Muhayat Shah's case, he needs RM28,000 for a ventricular septal defect closure to correct the hole in his heart. If it is not done, not only will his quality of life be affected, but irreversible lung damage could also shorten it. Because he was only recently diagnosed, Rezki is susceptible to chest infection and needs the operation by next week to prevent further lung damage. Those who wish to help these three children should send in their cheques made payable to New Straits Times, with the child's full name written on the back to The Cashier, Finance Department/Charity Unit, The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur. ------------------------------------------------ http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Tue...icle/index_html 2008/12/23 Kids in dire need of surgery funds Tan Yar Kee and her daughter Yu Rou Ai GEORGE TOWN: Three-year-old Yu Rou Ai is very thin and small for her age. Why NST did not update the public on:
-Condition of the patient -If they already achieve the number that required for operation I think this should be transparent to avoid any misused |

He became an invalid, forcing Wong to become the family’s sole breadwinner overnight. Wong, 42, said that her 38-year-old husband Ting Hoo Ling was working in Singapore before the tragedy struck. Help needed: Chan (left) comforting Ting, who was bedridden following an accident three years ago. With them are (from right) Beruas MCA division chief Ooi Jing Ting, Ayer Tawar New Village JKKK chairman Ling Leong Chin and Wong. “My life was turned upside down overnight,” she said, adding that her family was dependent on her meagre RM400 a month income as a cleaner. They have also been relying on financial aid from relatives. “But I know I cannot depend on them forever as they, too, have their families to care for,” she said. Besides having to care for their two children, aged eight and 10, Wong also has to bring Ting for his regular check-up at the Manjung Hospital. Perak MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Alex Chan has appealed for donations to help the family. “The bureau handed Wong a donation of RM1,000 while an anonymous donor also contributed another RM1,000 to start the ball rolling,” he said. Those who wish to help can send cheques made out to “Perak MCA Public Services and Complaints Bureau” with Ting’s name written on the back. The cheques can be sent to the Perak MCA headquarters at 90-92, Tingkat Satu, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, 30000 Ipoh. For details, contact Chan at 05-2536981.
