Plea for funds to save leg

Siew Ching Wen showing the scars on her knee from the four operations

KUALA LUMPUR: Siew Ching Wen was given a choice -- go for knee replacement surgery or lose her right leg.
The 21-year-old general clerk and quality control officer was diagnosed with pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) seven years ago. It is a rare disease of uncertain cause in which benign tumours grow in certain joints.

Siew has so far gone through four operations to remove the growths. She has been told she needs a prosthetic knee to save her leg.

On her RM1,500 a month salary, Siew said she could only afford the hospital fees. The artificial knee costs RM28,000.

" If I don't do this now, I will have to have my leg amputated."
If you wish to help Siew, you can send a cheque payable to the New Straits Times, with her name written on the back, to the Finance Department/ Charity Unit, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.

She just needs RM28K. She doesn't want to be rich. She just wants to save her leg.

Serius?

Semua doktor sudah kaya-kaya belaka, kenapa mahu untung banyak bila orang tak dapat bayar?

Sanggupkah potong kaki orang supaya boleh beli kereta mewah ketiga atau pergi makan angin di Hawaii?

Why argue so much?

Hospital and medical fees are not cheap. This is surgery, so have to cover the cost of the surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurses, operating theater, ward fees, the cost of the prosthetic knee, etc.

If you guys can spare some money, donate lah. Make a collection in your office, your place of worship, family. Don't need to be a lot. Even a few ringgit would do. Say, RM5 and 200 of you guys donate, already RM1K.

Will be posting more of these cases when I read about it in the papers.

Family needs help for son's op

KUALA LUMPUR: Darting from one place to another, Goh Zheng Yi appears to be like any other hyperactive 5-year-old.
The Batu Pahat lad, however, was diagnosed at birth with a complex congenital heart disease which left him blue due to lack of oxygen.

Doctors diagnosed a hole in the heart, transposition of great arteries (a condition where the two major vessels switch places) and pulmonary stenosis (narrowing of the large vessel to the lungs).

He first underwent a Blalock-Taussig shunt operation four years ago when he was 6 months. This helped relieve the blueness (cyanosis) and enabled the growth of his blood vessels to the lungs.

His father, Goh Sung Ho, 39, brings home RM2,200 monthly and has saved up to RM3,000 towards his youngest child's Glenn Shunt operation, to be carried out on Monday.
The operation will improve Zheng Yi's blood flow to his lungs and prepare his heart for the final Fontan operation, to be conducted at a later date.

"We hope that the public can help us raise the remaining RM42,000 for the Glenn Shunt operation," he said.

Those who wish to help can send cheques made payable to NSTP Charity Fund with the name of the beneficiary written on the reverse of the cheque, and addressed to: The Charity Unit NSTP, Finance Department/Charity Unit, The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd, Balai Berita, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.

Crash victim misses school friends

Jetson Lee, whose leg was amputated after a motorcycle accident in April, needs between RM7,000 and RM10,000 for a prosthetic leg.

SIBU: Jetson Lee is a bubbly 8-year-old who carries the scars of his accident bravely.
However, he could do with help to buy an artificial leg to go back to school in January.

Jetson, a Year Two pupil at Kiang Hing Chinese Primary School in Sungai Teku, lost his right leg following a road accident last April.

He was riding pillion with his elder brother, Nelson, when their motorcycle was hit by two tipper trucks.

His mother, Inan Ujai, said: "They were on their way home from school when the hit-and-run accident happened.
"Doctors amputated Jetson's leg to save his life. Miraculously, Nelson escaped serious injuries."

Life has not been the same for the family since the accident.

Inan and her husband, Lee Suleng, 41, whose right hand was deformed after an accident when he was young, are jobless.

Nelson, 15, works at a ship-building dockyard in Rantau Panjang, a few kilometres from their house.

Inan said: "Nelson stopped schooling and decided to work to supplement our income. We collect jungle shoots and do odd jobs.

"Life has been tough but Jetson's condition after the accident has brought us to our knees."

Jetson, who has not attended school since the accident, needs a prosthetic leg.

Inan said they were told a prosthetic leg would cost between RM7,000 and RM10,000.

"We can't afford such a huge sum. We want him to attend school next year and lead as normal a life as possible.

"It hurts to see him sitting at home watching others his age running around."

Jetson can't wait to go back to school.

"My teacher said I could go to school next year, not back to Year Two but Year Three."

Asked what he missed most during his more than six months away from school, he whispered: "My friends."

Those interested in helping can send their cheques, with Jetson's name written on the back of the cheque, to: The Cashier, Finance Department/ Charity Unit, New Straits Times Press, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur, or contact Aidah Nordin at 03-22823131 ext 6659

i dont donate, it's against my principle of fairness. why should one person be allowed the chance to get a leg, when there might be others who might lose more?
*
why dun give her a chance to have her own leg when we can actually help her a little bit?

I am a student..I work part time but I think I can take out some money to help her
