Hello,
I'm new here in Lowyat forums.  I submitted my application to Public Bank last month and the credit card should be ready this week.  They require (actually most banks) RM5K only as minimum (or shall I say, initial) amount for FD (rate is 3.70% - 12 months)... as your pledge for a credit card.  I gave them RM10K for an FD and then PB staff said I'm eligible for Gold credit card.  I have read the agreement that they asked me sign.. I can renew the FD for 7 years.

I phoned CIMB and Citibank the other day... to ask if they also offer credit card for any FD.  They said "yes". The requirement is the same as Public Bank -- minimum RM5K and copy of IC.

I'll see if PB's credit card is OK... if not, I might FD also at Citibank.

Update:  Just collected today (1st Dec) the PB visa gold credit and debit cards.  No PIN yet for the credit card but I think I can start using the credit card to get a new desktop biggrin.gif
BTW, I'm surprised that the credit card is valid for 2 years. I was expecting 1 year only since it's my first credit card  blush.gif

Wow ! This is new to me.

Most probably typo.

No. It's not a typo. RM18000/pa is the minimum salary required to apply for Standard Chartered Bank Gold credit card.

CANCEL "HLB", "StanChart Batman", "Shell Citi" and "MBF". KEEP "HSBC" and APPLY for "CIMB Mastercard". Lots of promotion year-round from CIMB.

for prompt card application , most bank accept at minimum 15k CL to qualify for their plat card except few like HSBC 30k , MBB 25k , CITI 20k.. currently the highest CL requirement is HSBC card AFAIK. very normal to get plat card nowadays.
*
Wow ! Then it should be very easy for those HSBC Premier Mastercard holder to apply for other bank's platinum credit card after a year since all HSBC Premier Mastercard comes with a minimum CL of 40k.

QUOTE(sentro2020 @ Dec 8 2008, 07:34 PM)
with 2~3k salary, possible get platinum ke ?
*
Salary aside. A big fat bank account will help you to be eligible for one smile.gif

Speaking of AMEX. MBB has this 3-year annual fee free promotion going on now for AMEX CHARGE CARD. You'll still have to pay RM25 if you wish to earn AMEX rewards points for the Green Card whereas for the Gold Card you have to pay nada. Minimum salary required to apply for the AMEX Green Card is RM30,000/pa and RM48,000/pa for AMEX Gold.

@hye,
*grins*  Sis has their character card; i believe it was one of the first few cards she obtained.  Anyhow, obtaining a CC these days seems to be as easy as ever and with your kind of expenses, I'll definitely want to make you MY customer if I were a bank smile.gif

@J'Daniel,
Yeah I've no idea Y it's taking so long - sis and her husband recently signed up for the Amex Gold Credit Card but they've not heard from the bank at all.  They figured if they don't hear from the bank they'll just pass on the card smile.gif

Perhaps U could contact the bank to check on status of your CC application.
*
Same problem here. Applied for the Ikhwan Visa the same week David83 applied for his Ikhwan AMEX and it's been almost 2 months now and i have yet to heard from Maybank. They really are slow, aren't they ? And by the way, i have been using AMEX Gold for almost a year now from MBB and always pay in full each month.

Anyways, since thing isn't looking too good with MBB, i decided to try to apply for HSBC MPower VISA 3 weeks ago and i just received a sms from HSBC on last Saturday that my HSBC MPower VISA has just been shipped. Very efficient indeed.

To the HSBC Premier Credit Card holder, what is the minimum credit limit? Can use this card to apply another exclusive credit card such as CIMB World mastercard or SCB Visa Infinite?
*
RM40,000. Might request for a HUGE increase in credit line if you have at least RM500,000 of FD inside HSBC Malaysia. Then you probably can use it to apply for CIMB Wolrd Mastercard and SCB Infiinite without producing your salary statement. And why do i mention FD and not your big loan with HSBC or your investments in their Unit Trust/Structured Products ? Because FD is basically a risk-free investment.

Do you know whether the annual fee for this card can be waive. ?
*
Someone said it's impossible to get it waived a few months back but i saw this leaflet in one their counters about 3-year annual fee free for the SCB Infinite Visa in late December last year. I didn't read it clearly but i remember reading that you have to place a sum of FD in the bank to qualify. Just go to one of their branches and check it out or simply just ask their CS.

Just make a call to their customer services. Their CS says that the annual fee only will be waive for the first year. On getting the with FD, I need to place an FD RM150k to get the card but the credit limit may be not 1 to 1 with FD. However he not so sure about this & will get the sales person to call me back tomorrow. The FD have to be maintain as long as I holding the card.
Ok, then i suppose all SCB Priority Banking customers can ask their RM to get them the VISA Infinite instead of Platinum Mastercard. Keep us updated about the credit line if your FD inside the bank is RM150k.

Go to other CIMB branch. Those workers at the branch you visited recently obviously don't know anything at all.

i wonder what kind of legal action can a bank take against me if i don't pay my credit card debts? (less than RM30k debt required for a bankruptcy act)

They will continue to sue until you declare yourself brankrupt. All your fixed assets and money inside banks will be confiscated.

they actually cannot declare me bankrupt if i owe less than RM30k... so they cannnot cancel my passport...

basically the only thing they can do is to blacklist me for life??
*
Nope. You'll get many letters from their appointed agency and should you continue to ignore the letters sent to you, they will sue you officially. They will freeze all your money inside any banks, you might not be allowed to travel overseas until the case is settled. Fixed assets temporary confiscated. And on top of that, they just might sue you for not cooperating with them until you are thrown into jail. Good luck !

thanks for the info, can I "convert" a CC to free for life?
*
Sure. Just park RM200k in HSBC, Citibank, Standard Chartered or RM300k in UOB and OCBC then you'll entitled for a free-for-life credit card. Or alternatively, apply for CIMB Bank Mastercard, CIMB Bank Petronas Mastercard, Direct Access credit card or Maybank Petronas Visa as all these card are absolutely annual fee free with no string attached !!!
