QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Nov 28 2008, 02:48 PM) It depends whether the source is embedded with subtitle or notIf not u have to look for the so-called 3rd party subtitle like srt type The website said the player supports the srt type subtitle Anyhow I will try it out tonight |

tested just now
most of my mkv files were played flawlessly except few files with different flaws anyway, i was using the composite cable to test tomorrow gonna get a HDMI cable to test again to see whether the flaws can be resolved about the subtitle yes, all the english subtitles can be shown but not the chinese subtitle not even a single word was shown the subtitles are the srt type the so called 3rd party subtitle not the embedded one I tested one mkv movie with embedded subtitle it shows nothing I think like metalgrindsolid bro mentioned need to extract the subtitle out when i opened some of my mkv files it shows that the audio track type is not supported, no sound maybe not all the digital audio track types are supported? QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Dec 5 2008, 09:33 AM) Yo, robin. Glad to know that. Can you tell me how you go about it? First U need to identify ur optical input on ur AVR is set for what device (DVD, CableTV, etc....)I am using HTIB Panasonic with optical in. Dying to know the remedy. After u connect ur optical cable, switch the playing mode on ur AVR to the mode that ur optical input is set for (DVD, CableTV, etc...) That should solve ur problem Btw, I still need to prove one more thing I'm not sure whether connecting the optical cable alone without RCA cables will still give u sound coz my testing last night was done together with RCA cables will try again tonite |

I believe these films have frame rate of 8 and the WDTV needs to have frame rate of 4. Check out the AVS forums, there is some help there. I think you need to remux them to frame rate of 4 or something. yeah, i read those from AVS forum toosomeone said that need to remux the mkv files but the steps are very leceh lar thought can straight watch the movies flawlessly without doing anything This post has been edited by robinlim: Dec 23 2008, 03:06 PM |

just updated my HDTV
guess what? It solved the problem of my few mkv files which were played with drop frames previously!! i don't have to go thru the hassle to do remux on those files, yeah! Now I can watch my TDK and Hellboy 2 which is near BD quality with much pleasure generally the new firmware added much improvements to the HDTV the control of menus is now more responsive and it supports chinese subtitle now (non-embedded type) eventhough u have to pre-set it first as it won't detect automatically i didn't try out the dvd vob files and others like photo slides and songs playback it's still not perfect yet there's still a bit of lagging when it plays large size 1080p avi files but for the same size of mkv files, it plays very smoothly guess it's the codec problem hope next firmware update will solve this issue This post has been edited by robinlim: Dec 23 2008, 11:47 PM |

QUOTE(DigitalKL @ Jan 16 2009, 11:02 AM) Even if the WDTV has internal decoding which I really dont think so, you wont get 5.1 channels from the your termed RCA. Those are for two channels, how to carry 5.1 channels? Only way to get 5.1 channels is thru toslink and HDMI. I got mentioned stereo sound lar, broof coz RCA carries only 2 channel sound Added on January 16, 2009, 10:52 pm QUOTE(ar188 @ Jan 16 2009, 04:34 PM) digital rca = coaxial, right? Just to check with u guys
when u play the mkv files using WDTV and use AVR to decode audios (DD/DTS) do u find the conversation voice coming out thru centre speaker tends to be soft? I found out most of my mkv files have these problem at first i thought it's my speaker's setting but I tried on dvd's and blu-ray discs don't have this problem centre speaker sound is on par with other speakers or is it the nature of mkv files with weak and soft centre channel audio? QUOTE(rx330 @ Mar 2 2009, 04:30 PM) Not the same show actuallyu might have the point bro maybe the source is also like that will try on few movies to confirm that Added on March 3, 2009, 12:08 am QUOTE(lightning69 @ Mar 2 2009, 07:04 PM) Added on March 2, 2009, 7:08 pm I think your problem is specific to that particular movies. All my mkv files are from bluray and those sound are rip right off the bluray audio so the sound should stay true to the original sources. And by the way, even those AC3 5.1 sound awesome. just curious why the files have soft centre audio channel as compared to dvds and blu-ray discs (not the same title) Added on March 3, 2009, 12:11 am QUOTE(waeguk @ Mar 2 2009, 07:00 PM) QUOTE(ic-klass @ Mar 2 2009, 10:46 PM) QUOTE(Susuwatari @ Mar 2 2009, 10:58 PM) I have the same problem, soft centre channel audio, using yammy's amp as well. I thought it was my problem until I see this thread. it seems like it's a common problem actuallysomeone told me that it could be due to bad audio encoding wondering how true is that This post has been edited by robinlim: Mar 3 2009, 12:14 AM |

QUOTE(ar188 @ Mar 18 2009, 01:15 PM) acterly, MKV is just a Video/audio file container, can store std def DVD rip or any video files or HD-DVD rips or even recorded HD TV channels. doesn't mean really BD rips only.. yup, same like AVI, just a containercheers.. what matter is the type of codec u use to encode |
