thanx for the info, bro smile.gif

just updated the firmware
to me it seems like no surprise at all sad.gif
or even worse in fact coz the latest firmware no longer supports external subtitles (which the movie and subtitle are two separate files bearing the same file name)
it will only support embedded subtitles
means have to go through the hassle of embedding the subtitles into the movies
what a big let down sad.gif

another flaw is the support for FLAC
In the description it says that it'll support FLAC
I opened a movie which has FLAC
It does show the word 'Digital Audio' and not the word 'Unsupported Audio' like before
but it can't decode FLAC properly
All I heard was a very loud hissing sound rclxub.gif

r u sure it doesnt support ext sub??  doesnt make sense.
*
sure
I tested few movies that are without embedded subs, but with external subs
nothing shown sad.gif

I hooked up exactly the movies I used on previous firmware, without changing anything

no prob for me...still support external sub
*
sure, bro? why mine cannot show gah? doh.gif
did u do any additional setting?

or might it be that ur movie is already embedded with other language subs, but u put on an external english sub?
my case really cannot show anything leh sad.gif

my overview for this latest firmware
nothing to shout as compared to previous firmware
those audios that are not supported remain cannot be supported (FLAC, E_AC3)
those movies that cannot play smoothly with pixelated frames remain pixelated

to make thing worse
cannot support ext subs for movies that are totally embedded subs free (so far for my case, to be checked and confirmed by other users)
slower usb drives scanning time (it showed my drive is empty when I pressed on 'Video' immediately the unit is switched on with usd drives detected, which this did not happen on previous firmware doh.gif )

plus points
'Video' is the first item to select when the player is switched on
Cover Art is now fully supported without having to do anything, just place a .jpg file into the movie folder and it'll show the thumbnail on the folder

i don think WD will strip out ext sub support, it just doesnt make sense as this feqtures is requested by many pp.

any users who upgraded latest FW care to share?
*
I have the same feeling also
It really doesn't make sense

releasing the latest firmware is to improve the delivery system
not going backwards rclxub.gif

got my ext subs not shown issue fixed

it's true that the latest firmware still support ext sub
but u need to select from 'Options' on remote control
and this only apply to mkv, not iso format

unlike previous firmware where it'll show the sub straightaway without doing any selection
and it'll show sub on movies with iso format

no no..i bet ur previous movies come with embeded sub, for separate sub file, even old FW u need to press option to access the sub. Now new FW even list the language, cool!!
nope, the movies are totally free of embedded subs
I'm very sure coz I checked the contents of each movies I downloaded
My case on previous FW, it'll show ext subs automatically without having to press anything
embedded subs depends, some need some don't need

there's another issue
the movie will lag after a while when I used scene search function (pressing 'FF' then 'Next')
even when I exit and enter again, it'll happen
It's only ok when I played the movie from the beginning
Anyone experienced the same thing?

ok now this is even weirder biggrin.gif
will try that asap. Thx for sharing.

by right, it should be able to play muxxed FLACs track in MKV right?
*
according to the release note, it said can support
but for my case, it's no
I have one 'The Dark Knight' mkv with FLAC track
when I switched to FLAC, I heard a loud hissing sound came out from my speaker rclxub.gif

It still can play the movie, but when the cartoons move, it is like pixelated with small square boxes. Maybe something to do with the motion flow or frame rate??
i am confused.

Added on April 21, 2009, 10:23 pmWhen I tested this movie on my laptop using Media Classic Player HC, everything is smooth, no such problem......
*
the type of codec used for encoding matters
like my case, I also have a 1080p 'Madagascar 2', no problem at all playing
but will cause pixelation when playing 1080p 'Cars'

another case is 'Underworld'
the first download cannot play at all
will hang after playing for few seconds
then I downloaded another version
it plays perfectly

Then how to determine which codec is the right one to download? We sure dont want to waste the days to re-download the 1080o movies again..... cry.gif
Normally uploader just mentioned about this;-

Madagascar.2005.1080p.BluRay.DTS.x264-ESiR

Any problem?
*
Maybe there are ways to check
but I dunno any method
using mkvmerge will only show brief detail

I depend purely on luck for the time being
If movie got problem playing, no choice have to redownload
Luckily only a small percentage of my movies have pixelation problem

When I play a few of my mkv there's a DIGITAL word just after the starting, then it will have no sound. I guess it is because of the audio in DTS I think. Correct me if I'm wrong. Is there any way to rectify that?
*
does ur avr support dts?
If not, the only way to have sound is to convert the dts track to ac3
