I have try out the WDTV units for 2 weeks now.   In fact I have sold many units of it now and still have a couple sitting in my house waiting for delivery.  Now I am not a dealer or anything like that, but I just help my friends purchase it and setup for them. 

All I can say is that the WDTV rocks!  It can play HD mkv files up to 1080P.  When you say the quality can't compare to the Bluray, I fully agee with you, but I can tell you that the quality of mkv files can be damn good that you can't really tell much difference between bluray and mkv.  With 1TB WD HDD that comes with 1000 movies/concert...i can tell you that this guys is going for quantity and not quality.  I have a few WD 1TB Essential HD and I can only put around 200 HD movies in it.  And those mkv movies that I have is only slightly inferior to bluray and i really don't mind at all.

I have a few 1080P mkv movies that is more than 10GB in size and I can tell you that the quality is absolutely great. 

So the bottom line is that the WDTV can display FULL HD video with clear, sharp and details video if you have the right HD contents for it.

The WDTV does carry audio on the HDMI.  For those who would like 5.1 or 6.1 surround, you need an optical cable.  The WDTV can decode AC3(dolby Digital) but has no on board DTS decoder(common guys...this things only cost RM399) so you need a receiver with DTS decoder if you want to enjoy DTS sound.

The WDTV can also support multiple audio channels and subtitiles which can be turn on & off.

Besides that the WDTV can even play your favorites music and supports FLAC lossless audio for the audiophiles.

For the price and features...I think this is the best media player money can buy.

when u play the mkv files using WDTV and use AVR to decode audios (DD/DTS)
do u find the conversation voice coming out thru centre speaker tends to be soft?
I found out most of my mkv files have these problem

at first i thought it's my speaker's setting
but I tried on dvd's and blu-ray discs don't have this problem
centre speaker sound is on par with other speakers

or is it the nature of mkv files with weak and soft centre channel audio?

if I recall reading, some sifus here got more than 10TB already..

Has anyone already figure out how to place movie cover art into wdtv menu?

Never i'd encountered this situation. I normally playback in my AV room with aircond running at 25c-26c. I placed the unit above my Onkyo TX-SR606 but with colling fan running continuously. I had used it for 2-4 hours consequtively without any problem.
Do check your HDMI cable & resolution signal settings. Have u removed the protective plastic sheet on the WDTV?

belkin is that expensive?? the 2m audioquest HDMI-A is abt RM150

anyone niticed that after playing the unit more or less for 1 hour - its dam hot. The pic kinda go into slow-mo and loss the audio. Tried pausing it a little while but no. The only solution at the mo, is to fast backward few seconds and play it again - but it still comes back..

anyone experience this?? my is fw 1.01

please help! Can some kind soul please point me to where I can solve the "no audio" problem on 720p and 1080p files?
I tried downloading Popcorn Audio Converter but there's a trojan horse in there according to my AVG.
I don't have a DTS receiver either! (How much are recivers now?)
Anyway, I just want to watch my stuff on my LCD TV in my room, so the speakers from my TV is more than sufficient for my current needs.

Please please help!

You might want to try witha different HDD.  It might also be due to slow HDD?

I have an old Pioneer HiTB thingy (about 7 yrs old) that comes with 5 speakers and a one-box player and receiver. Will this work with WDTV?

How do I then connect all three together?

WDTV/ TV; HDMI

receiver/TV: ?

jsut spend 3 hoour of series marathon - all avi.
No slo-mo and loss audio    All went smooth

So, does this mean the mkv file that i played before was corrupted/ damaged??
You see, I download it to my lappy HD, then i used "sent to" to transfer it to my ext HDD - does it corupts the file??
Also, I tried download it straight to my ext HDD - does this also corrupt the file ??

any body?? How do u transfer ur finished Bdrip mkv to ur ext HDD??
