okie, finally I encounter a few 1080p MKV that are pixelated on WDTV but not on PC.

namely,
Pixar.Short.Presto.2008.1080p.BluRay.x264-ESiR
Open.Season.2006.1080p.BluRay.x264-ESiR
Monster.Inc.1080p.HDTV.DTS.x264-ESiR

and many more...

anyone having the same problem as me?
going out to Style photo to collect my repaired yamaha avr.. tonight can continue watch more movies with DTS  biggrin.gif

Notice that your problem 1080ps are all animation. It might be due to the HiReframes problem with the WDTV. That's why I download 720p for animations.

Not a tech question but want to buy a wdtv but not sure where I can do a cash and carry ? Is there a shop somewhere in LYN or preferably near sunway ?
TIA

LYN go Thundermatch at 4th floor. Dunno if it's still RM369 there. It was few weeks ago. Might be back to RM399 now.

To those who wants to use USB HUB with the WDTV, please stick to .07 version of the firmware. AVS Forums users reported that Western Digital disabled USB HUB support in FW .08.

I updated to .08 and no problem so far. One noticable different is some of my MKV anime audio is now supported (previous showed UNSUPPORTED AUDIO 1).
*
It's reported that FW .08 supports OGG VORBIS audio in MKV. And I take it your anime uses OGG. smile.gif

really, eh? I always thought all are still beta version.

thanks anyway.
*
1.02.07 was a beta. Then Western Digital upgraded it's status to FINAL and posted it as an official download in the WDTV support site.

they didnt record down any changes in the change logs right for beta to final transition on v07.  P/S: I am still on v07 beta though.  So far so good.
*
No, there weren't any changes between .07 Beta and .07 Official(Final). The file checksums are identical hence, NOTHING was changed.

I honestly just forgot about vorbis in MKV support when I was writing the change log.

So yes, firmware 08 officially support Vorbis audio in mkv.

QUOTE(ic-klass @ May 22 2009, 11:29 PM)
anyone knows how to include ext sub to mkv/wdtv?? - where is best to source

and also how to make sure the sub we dl is "lip-syn" with the audio - or something like that...

pls help thumbup.gif
*
I use MKVtoolnix to add external sub into the mkv. Use the mkvmerge part of the program. It's just a remux tool so you don't lose video and audio quality. Very useful.

When you want to merge, just press the ADD button and select the mkv file. Then press ADD again and select the sub file. (*sub, *srt, etc). Then click Start muxing.

But before that I usually play the mkv and sub as external subs to see the timing, whether the sub is in sync with the audio or not. I'll note the delays between the subs and audio then add the delay into the mkvmerge program. Click on the sub listing in mkvmerge and choose the second tab near the bottom and add the DELAY in ms. Add a + number if you need to delay the sub and add a - number if you need to quicken the sub. Remember it's in ms - miliseconds. A 1 second delay is 1000ms. A 1 second quickening is -1000ms.

Hope that helps.

Can I find this in any shop in Malaysia?

Just head to Low Yat plaza and buy the WDTV from the many shops there. Prices range from RM369 to RM419 nowadays.

Anfieldude, thanks. What I did was connect the optical to the Bose, selected AUX but no audio. It seems I have select the "optical input" to AUX, using the Bose remote.

Make sure you've set the WDTV to Audio Out = DIGITAL.

For my case, I set the default sound is Stereo and it can play out both Digital Sound too if the files is DTS sound. Can't explain why.... But if i set it to Digital, sure it can't play Stereo Sound.
For DTS, it goes out the optical out because the WDTV has no way of decoding DTS. So it HAS to send it out via optical, regardless whether you set the WDTV to Stereo or Digital. But other digital format (Dolby Digital...etc) that is able to be decoded will come out as stereo.

podrunner might be trying to play files with Dolby Digital audio. If he set to Stereo, he will not get the audio via the optical. He'll only get if he connect the composite red/white to the input red/white on his Bose. Set to Digital in WDTV and he'll get full Dolby Digital 5.1 sound out from optical into his Bose optical, while at the same time the stereo sound is disabled.

QUOTE(Poadster @ May 27 2009, 09:49 AM)
I have been reading the thread with interest, and finally got mine recently. Pls help on the below, my firmware is 1.02.7:-

1. When I try to eject the HDD, the WDTV hangs. Need to hard reset by switching off the power, anyone have this issue??

2. When playing MKV files, nothing happens when i press the "next" button. Isn't it supposed to move the movie forward by 10mins each press?

3. Audio is set to Digital: When playing movies with AAC 5.1, no sound comes out from WDTV -> receiver (receiver does state its receiving AAC-MPEG sound). Only by resetting to "Stereo" does the TV (via HDMI) outputs sound. I hv tried this with PS3, same thing. Does this mean the file is corrupted, despite the PS3 says its AAC 5.1 sound is embedded??

4. Audio set to Digital: When playing movies with DTS or DD sound, the HDMI sound to TV is muted. I read somewhere that WDTV sends sound via both HDMI and Toslink, anyone notices that the HDMI is muted when playing DTS/DD files??

Pls help, any suggestions is appreciated. Thnx!!  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

1. Have not heard anyone having hanging issues when ejecting drives.

2. To skip forward 10mins, you first need to fast forward using the (>>) button THEN press the NEXT (>|) button. Same thing if you want to reverse by 10 minutes.

3. Possibly a corrupted mkv.

4. WDTV cannot decode DTS internally. Western Digital did not pay for THAT license. So all DTS data will be sent out via TOSLINK to be decoded by a receiver. I'm not too sure about DD but I think if you set the Audio to Digital, it means sending out via Toslink only. I need to confirm this with my WDTV when I get back home.
