does anyone have any experiences with importing books? Im thinking of getting a few from amazon but it sums up to RM1.2k! How many percent will  I need to pay for duty?

If i'm not mistaken, books are tax-free... just make sure it's not prohibited reading material.
but if the total is >rm500, no guarantee of no tax...

HI Dude's,

How high the value could be for the books purchases, they are all DUTY FREE which falls under the code of 4901.... thumbup.gif

If I separate shipment and order at different day but same address will i get tax? Lets say today I ordered and Tomorrow order another 1..

Each parcel less than Rm500. But if combine both it will be more than Rm500.

Just to share..

I received my package from UK..via Royal Mail..the retailer sent them on the 15th Dec..so i guess it's pretty fast.

I bought clothings worth 170 pounds (RM800+)..was worried that it might get taxed but the retailer was smart enough to write the value as 30 pounds..or maybe i'm just lucky.

Good luck to everyone on our parcels!

Hi! Do you know if a pressure cooker is taxable? It's not electrical but just placed on top of cooking hob. Can't seem to find anything relevant in the tariff website. Thanks.

i been taxed rm63.08 for a single dvd from japan which cost me the most rm365(product+shipment). i just found out about this when i called fedex regarding my shipment status.

its just a kids cartoon dvd for personal use which is less than rm500.
so who should i call or enquire on why am i being taxed. fedex or kastam?

the dvd come with free musical box.
so is dvd/musical box taxable?

less than RM500 won't be taxed for sure, even though it is categorized as a taxable item.
so every time when u purchase something overseas just ask the shipper/seller to declare value cheaper than RM500 to get away from tax.

Sounds good, what if i get a handphone from oversea and declare as gift?
What are the possibility of getting thru custom without tax and SIRIM thingy?
