My gf have 2 GP,i would like to ask if it is ok if when my gf bring the 2 GP to stay in my place in a different and smaller cage then they are staying now will it be ok?because sometimes my gf come over my place to stay with me for a few days when she have her off day so she worry the 2GP in the hands of her room mates so i suggested her to bring it over to my place but using a different and smaller cage that they are staying now cuz their current cage is not so convenient to bring up and down from my her place to my place then back to her place. So i am thinking of getting another but smaller cage in my house for them to stay while she is here with me?Will this affect them when they are move to a different and new cage?

The GPs are abt 2 months old not sure the per shop salesman get it right or not as I felt he sell me a couple instead of 2 females GPs...They have started to bond with my gf as she hand feed them and can hold them but once a while they will run away from being hold. They keep doing the high pitch sound. When I let them out for some exercise time. What is that mean ar?I bought a boon on them but still not sure wat the sound mean.

Oh, by the way Sugar thanks alot for the Vet information...will pass it to my Gf.

Haha, young GP you got there. Maybe you can suggest your GF to use wood base bedding instead of recycle paper. smile.gif And beside feeding them pellet, you can also feed them timothy hay and alfalfa hay. A paper box won't last long for your GP, they will destroy it when they feel confortable with the surrounding. The cage can be decor with some simple chew toy for them, it will give them plenty of fun and di-stress. They need to chew, you can easily get lots of chew toy in any pet shop near you. blush.gif
*
already got hay for them to eat.wanted to get a wood base bedding for them but the store was out of stock so we get those recycle paper instead for the moment but she already bought those wood base bedding for them already will use them on their next change smile.gif they were very cute this morning eating fresh vege biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

i used to have a hamster for 2 years but GP are so much different as in behaviour as their are too shy or scared of anything lol

btw how long should i feed the GP with alfalfa hay?and when to change to timothy hay?cuz my gf now got both of those hay now?mixed them?they are still young around 2month old only

it is ok to mix them with timothy abit since she already bought it? cuz dun 1 to waste it as the nutrient will degrade in time when they are not eaten

This info chins give me rclxms.gif

A GP is under 6 months you feed = 80%Alfalfa + 20% timothy.
Above 6 months = Slowly change to 50% Alf + 50% Tim
After 12 months = 100% Timothy + occasional alfalfa
Adult GP (12 months) seen no appetite = 20% alfalfa + combination of any grass hay.

keep your hay high and not on the floor. Poke holes in the bag <--- this also chin teach me brows.gif
*
ok thxs for the info will do that then =)

i got a hay tray that come with the cage so no need to poke holes on bag biggrin.gif got a very cute picture of them taking hay from the tray will post them when my gf is here biggrin.gif

Yes, you will enjoy seeing your pet eating, especially hay. smile.gif Your hay rack is inside the cage or outside the cage? smile.gif

Added on February 8, 2009, 11:03 am
Glad to hear your GP is getting confortable with his enviroment. time to grow big. biggrin.gif

I also saw lots of ppl having their GPs staying together with rabbits, kind of weird to me even tho their not fighting. biggrin.gif They eat in the same bowl, pee in the same area, even sleep together! laugh.gif
*
the hay rack is outside the cage like the water bottle thing so the gp will have stand up and reach for the hay biggrin.gif

i got a dilemma here my gf told me the food that she bought at pet family for GP are not so suitable for them as they contains seeds and bean that they are not suppose to eat( they kinda look like those hamster mix variety of food that contains alot of seed, kua che type like that but we bought is for the GP)so was thinking of changing their food to Hagen Guinea Pig Pellets which is just rm4 more expensive then Pet family own packed food. better to be safe then to sorry cuz rm 4 is not really alot so i was thinking why take the risk?so guys and girl can i have ur opinion on this?and would like to know what dry food do u guys feed ur GP other then hays??

i guess not yet... cry.gif  as he will wheek if i pass by the cage...but just sometimes...most of the time he will hide in his dome....but he get more familiar with my dog...why i say this is because even my dog bark at him, he still can popcorning and eating.... whistling.gif  weird fella.... doh.gif  only that day after bath him, he stay quietly on my lap let me to blow dry and pet him...he always very scare if i wan to catch him out of the cage.... sweat.gif

if they feel something different from the skin of the GP can assume they are some sort of dirt or insect cuz my dog always got insect biting on his head and usually u can feel it some kind of thing when u touch it.if ur gp trust u enough u can try to squeeze it gentlely see if there are any movement if so then it definitely an insect

I got to check it one more time....if it's flea, it should be moving?  hmm.gif

Juztiny, the anivision can cure flea or not? really can't wait to get the shampoo from u!!! as I am worried if it's really flea, it might move to my dog's body as well.... rclxub.gif
*
yea if u squeeze hard enough it might move and u can know for sure its a flea,1 of the other way is to put some kind of mint ointment on them like example mentholethem that wat my dad do for my dog and the flea just move away and he catch it off. but if ur scared then u have to use ur hand to feel it,if it some kind of bulking thing on them most probably they are fleas unless they are the nipples of the GP lol cuz last time we mistaken my dog's nipple for fleas LOL as that time i have not much experience with dogs

I kept rabbit before.  The key differences are:-

Rabbit does not required high vitamin C at all time.  GP does.
Male rabbit  bites - 90% GP doesn't.

LIMIE feed this brand, if I'm not mistaken.

This brand is quite expensive as compared to Hagen.  But I don't know why it doesn't have the green freshness smell like Hagen pellets have.

Last time I wanted to buy this brand when I read the marketing text on the net.  Sound very good and nutritious.  After I had seen the real pellets, I'm not convinced it is any better than Hagen pellets with its higher price.
*
i think its because hagen pallets have mix with alfalfa hay that why there is fressh green smell in them

Thats why we need to rotate their food often.. cant eveyday be same menu sad.gif same like us.. if eat nasi lemak everyday... sure beh tahan rite XD
*
i dunno about GP but for dogs have to give them the same Menu everyday cuz they are very picky when comes to food when they know they can have better food they will not eat any other food then that so for dogs we cant change food unless u r doing it for good

colincsf>> i suggest to quickly change the food, as the content of the previous food you gave them are not good for GPs. nuts and grains especially. i did bought and gave my gp the exact brand you gave to them long ago, and my gp have bad experienced with kuaci...when she try to eat it the kuaci stuck between her teeth and upper lip...she struggle like crazy until i oso became mega-panic.... rclxub.gif they oso did not gain weight as much as a growning GP should, i guess its because lack of nutrition. other from Hagen pallets and timothy/alfalfa hay, you should gave them some fresh fruits too, for vit C happy.gif you dont have to gradually change the food, just completely remove the old food and replace the pellets, they will learn to eat by themselves. Hagen pellets are good as they the pellets have fresh sweet smell that might lure ur gp to eat it.

Hagen pellet is i think 1 of the best for gp.
1) coz its easier to get the Sluis/Kaytee/Prestige/other brands plus its reasonable price too
2) cos of the size>>big and crunchy pellets GP love to chew on, can help trim their teeth oso happy.gif
3) the smell of fresh ingredient>> the pellets are in secure-sealed bag, easy to store, and you can smell the sweet freshness on the pellet, they smell like green, fresh hay. even if i open the pellet bag far from my GP they oso can smell and wheek2...begging for it haha  rclxm9.gif
*
ok yea will change their food asap as they have just eaten those grain and nut food for like 2weeks.I actually even notice pet shop giving the pet eating pellet instead of those grain type of food

Since you mentioned that they are a pair, most likely the female doesn't want the male one to hump (rape) her, so fight lor....

I have seen that happen in my own GPs,  as long as they are not fight till bleeding , just let them be, eventually the male one have to respect the female's decision not to have sex lor....
*
i also not sure are they a pair we suppose to buy 2 female lol i guess might have to check them again to make sure are they both female or male and female.i even actually told the pet shop people to check by 2 different people to make sure they are both females....

depends on user preferences i guess as long as u piggies is in good health then can just keep with the food u r using?or maybe u can try it out and see the differences?1 more thing as long as it is branded stuff it should be good i guess.
