ya..why -12?

to make the sequence like below
-12,-10,-8,-6
because the question says it is starting from 2nd term, which referred to -10

ya..so for that ques..the 2nd term suppose to be -8?

no lah .. read again the question.
2nd term is -10

it says "starting from 2nd term" ... and the list is -10,-8 so on.
so -10 is 2nd term.

answer is what ? Let me guess the solution from answer as I don't know the meaning of "alternative".

erm..ans is 100

Alternative terms should mean T2, T4, T6 (or T1, T3, T5) and so on.

Since you're counting from -8,
Use a = -8
Your d in the original sequence is 2.
However, we are only using alternative terms, so just double your d (because you are skipping one term in between).

d = 2 x 2 = 4

a = -8
d = 4

S10 = 10/2 (-16 + 9*4) = 100

Or if you have trouble understanding that..

From your original sequence: -10 , -8, -6, -4

a = -8
d = 2

Just do T1 + T3 + T5 + T7 + ... Until you have 10 of them, you'll get the same answer

(Use -8 as your T1)

Sum of first 10 alternative terms starting from 2ND term.

2nd term is obviously -8.

Alternative term = you don't add the term right after the 2nd term (3rd term) but add the 4th term instead.

So the progression u'll get is T2+T4+T6+T8 and so on untill u have 10 terms

(a+d) + (a+3d) + (a+5d) + (a+7d) + (a+9d) + (a+11d) + (a+13d) + (a+15d) + (a+17d) + (a+19d)

= 10a + 100d

=-100 + 100(2)

= 100
