i think someone (not sure if its in LYN) has mentioned before, a face like Bronson will 'stand' out more (good looking). but someone like craig would blend in better as a real spy (as some even called him un'JB looking)

i liked pierce too but i've have to agree, with the current reality theme's, craig is totally spot on as 'the' james bond. Taking noting away from sean & the rest, they were good for their periods.

I suspect the younger chums might not take to this new 'skyfall' movie as well as slick 'casino royale'.

yeah i guess there are 2 mentalities to watching bond. the newer fans might want to go for realism but the original bond up until pierce brosnans last film is all about escapism, a mans fantasies of being a spy, not really about being a spy. i mean, what kind of spy would everyone villain in the world knows about, and gladly telling people his real name, "Bond, James Bond".
the success of the bourne series prompted the producers to go younger, more direct, and brutal with craig and the bruising action scenes and camerawork. while lifelong fans of bond had no real sense of escapism.
while Casino Royale is a very fine movie when judged by today action movies standard, comparing it with older bond movies since the times of Sean Roger and Pierce feels like an awkward shift. anyway i would still go watch Skyfall just out of sheer fandom of James Bond.

For me, the whole 007 series leading up to Daniel Craig can be summed up in Austin Powers and No One Lives Forever.

Craig's Bond is a total break from the trademark quirky humor and wacky situations. It takes the franchise to another world, one full of over-the-top, video game action. This is a needed step for the James Bond series to fold neatly into the video game industry. And in this violent video game world, there is no place for beautiful looking men, the reason being that gamers are mostly boys.

So if you girls want a dashing looking Bond in the next casting, put down your Angry Birds and play the damned games.

i agree since the producers needed Bond to fit in with this era like how every re-invention of Bond fitted in with their respective era.
How Roger Moore brings his quirky wit, charm and eyebrows and Safari suit to the 70's and 80's.
Pierce Brosnans sheer charisma to the 90's
and now Daniel Craigs over the top videogame action and brutality to todays violent fanboys so to speak.

What i slightly disliked is the fact that the sense of 'FUN' is gone ever since Craig enters. Maybe there's a little whim of it in Casino Royale, but in Quantum there is absolutely none. Hopefully Skyfall can be a bit more fun. theres a hint to it in the trailer where Bond jump for the train and fixes his cufflinks. we need more of that! haha

btw this is just too much fun

Discovery channel.

They featured an episode regarding real-life spy, they are normal looking, no poshy life, use multiple fake names, live in the darkness, no freedom and sacrifice everything includes time with family for the mission.

Saw that and as i said earlier, some people go to watch Bond to escape from real life, a sense that Bond is not really a movie about spies, it a movie of a man's (or woman's) fantasy of what spies shoud be like. if they want a serious spy movie they'll be better served with movies like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy or Micheal Caine's Harry Palmer series or John Le Carre's adapt. haha biggrin.gif

or the brilliant (British) tv series -SPOOKS

although it has some action scenes (which is really necessary or else most viewers will fall asleep), most of the time it's intelligence gathering, strategy discussions, politics, and detective work.
