It’s Official: MGM Scraps the Next Installment in the James Bond Franchise

It’s sad, dear readers, but apparently very true: Ain’t It Cool News is reporting today that MGM has officially canceled the next installment of the James Bond series while it continues to figure out how to deal with its currentl financial woes. Although I’m not surprised by the news, it’s still a very tough pill to swallow. In this wonky writer’s extremely humble opinion, Daniel Craig helped reinvigorate a franchise that had grown impossibly stale, and the fact that he won’t be able to continue redefining this iconic character is grossly disappointing. Way to go, MGM. First you complicate “The Hobbit”, now you’re screwing with Bond. Insert angry fist shaking and colorful expletives here.

In the meantime, I suppose I’ll have to fill this particularly devastating vacancy with extremely low-quality bootleg episodes of the ill-fated cartoon series “James Bond, Jr.” That’s how truly and unapologetically pathetic I am.

It’s Official: Bond 23 is a Go

Well, after a lot of fits and starts and money troubles, it looks like a Sam Mendes-directed Bond movie (that’ll be #23, in case you’re keeping track at home) is finally, officially a go for production. MGM made the announcement themselves in a short but sweet press release:

QUOTE
Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, together with Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., today announced that the 23rd James Bond film will commence production in late 2011 for a worldwide release on November 9, 2012. Daniel Craig will be returning as the legendary British secret agent, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan.

So there you have it, Bond fans. The still untitled Bond 23 will commence production late 2011 for a November 9, 2012 release.

Actly for me, the identity of Bond was not really displayed in QoS. His charm, his dashingness, his suave, his way of handling situation, not up to par.

I thought they scrap the charm and dashingness when Daniel Craig fill-in the shoes of Bond? hmm.gif

Weren't there what they call it the most rugged Bond ever? laugh.gif

Yay! "Casino Royale" was great, "Quantum of Solace" was equally fantastic... and now they're making the third. Bring it on!

Just don't hurt any stunt drivers...

So who is the bond girl?

I dunno why, but seeing your posts back to back kinda funny. biggrin.gif

Anyways, it'll be interesting to see where they take this rebooted franchise, now that the origin story + Eva Green story arc has ended. Will this Bond be the suave Bond or is he still finding his footing in the world of espionage, etc, etc.

I also look back and laugh.gif at this.

I mean, they report was like this and then now they report is like that. MGM sure have a funny way of doing business...

And weren't they said declare bankrupt and then now like as if its okay? rclxub.gif

Not MGM's fault. I have other sources of Hollywood news, and I never heard anything about "officially" scrapping the next Bond movie. On the other hand, I have heard the latest news that the movie is finally on.

Conclusion? Beyondhollywood.com sucks. I dunno why people here always quote them.
*
Probably because they get their sources from other sources laugh.gif

And most of the time is rather true...

A good news source will check their sources. They will make sure it's 100% true before they publish a headline that goes "It's Confirmed".

Looks like they got it from Aintitcoolnews.com. Which is known for not being very credible.

Dark Horizons is much more reliable, guys.
*
Not just aintitcoolnews alone but other sites as well, depending on where they got it from.

There was a time they try to get as much news as they can to be credible but then, it is also the studio's fault to give them the run-about.

Nothing is always confirm > just like there was a time Stephen Chow did sign up for The Green Hornet to play as Kato and it was reported "confirmed" but then soon later reported "creative differences" and he was out and gave it to Jay Chou.

News are always in and always out - it all comes down to when its done.

Good example is Dominion - A Prequel to Exorcist. It was confirm... then scraped. And then make another one that is called Exorcist: The Beginning with new director Renny Harlin.

So in any case, news are reported... just that you can never get it "confirm" until its "confirmed" with images and trailers and all that...

Frankly, who's the best Bond of them all? I have a hard time to choose either Roger Moore or Sean Connery. tongue.gif

Some say Sean Connery (after all, he started it all). Some say Roger Moore (but many compare to his The Saint TV Series signature style of acting). Others say Pierce Brosnon (because of his sexiness). Still, in every decade new generation will say they are a better Bond than the other... of course, excluding George Lazenby. Timothy Dalton on the other hand... well... who knows, maybe someone likes him laugh.gif

Daniel Craig Wanders Around the Set of Skyfall

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I’ve never been much of a James Bond fan. He was always a bit too dapper and sophisticated for me, almost unbearably so once Roger Moore came aboard. All of that changed when Daniel Craig took the reigns, transforming the on-screen version of Bond from a well-mannered British snot into a rough-and-tumble badass who isn’t afraid to take a few whacks to his genitals. The batch of images from the set of “Skyfall” aren’t that impressive, mind you, but at least we know for certain that Craig is finally heading back to the franchise. That, of course, is all sorts of awesome.

Here’s a brief synopsis of the film:

Sam Mendes’ “Skyfall” stars, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, and Ben Whishaw. Javier Bardem will play the villain. Awesome? Awesome.

Will take a while to see if Daniel Craig step down (or force to)and whether Michael Fassbender able to fill in those shoes. He has the charm and the look... but the direction of James Bond is different at the moment with Daniel Craig as the current bond.

Let's see how the next bond movie (entitled Skyfall) will either make or break. I had watched all 20 films (I did not watch Daniel Craig take as Bond and hopefully I will; really and seriously depends on my mood) of it all (I did a 5 day marathon then) and I feel Sean Connery still able to hold himself very well as Bond.

As time goes by, so does the taste of movie-goers and audience all alike. Let's wait till Skyfally release in the cinemas (and I will try to watch Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace) will make or break Craig.

Joseph-Gordon Levitt as Bond...James Bond Jr.

If a reboot is imminent, why not change it all up. But Craig is set for a few more Bond films after Skyfall.

Remember "George Lazenby"? Now imagine Joseph-Gordon Levitt as James Bond Jr.... what would be the reaction?

Daniel Craig is back as Bond, and so is Judi Dench as M. According to the film’s official synopsis, M will be having her biggest impact on the franchise yet.

Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Now rumors are popping up all over the Interwebs that M’s “troubles” may lead to something drastic in the Bond universe.

“Skyfall”, the 23rd Bond movie, also stars Javier Bardem as the baddie, with Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe providing the Bond eye candy. Sam Mendes of “American Beauty” fame is directing.

Look for it in November of 2012.

Daniel Craig Signed Up for Two More Bond Films

user posted image

Looks like Daniel Craig will be drinking that martini shaken not stirred for a couple more films. Or, er, it’s Heineken now, I guess. (Or whatever alcoholic beverage the producers sell out Her Majesty’s top spy to by the time the next movie rolls around. Bond’s gotta have his drinks. After all, after a hard day of killing for God and Country, a nice cold one always helps to ease into the night.)

Anyhoo. With “Skyfall”, Daniel Craig’s third outing as Bond coming up this November, it appears the actor is officially signed on for two more films, making it five in all. Of course, other actors who have played Bond were signed on for multiple films, too, but not all of them ended up fulfilling their contracts. (Sean Connery and Timothy Dalton both left a film short.)

Unlike previous Bond actors, it’s taken Craig six years to make three Bond movies, starting with 2006′s “Casino Royale” and continuing on with “Quantum of Solace”. If he fulfills his entire five-movie contract and doesn’t renew for whatever reason, it would make Craig the third longest-serving Bond, behind Sean Connery (six) and Roger Moore, who holds the title with seven outings. Pierce Brosnan, the Bond before Craig, made four movies, while Timothy Dalton could only survive two. George Lazenby, of course, only managed one, 1969′s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”.

“Skyfall” opens November 9, 2012.
