Interesting to say the least. I think Mendes is a great director, and his movies always look beautiful, but he has never done an action movie. Let's just hope it turns out better than Marc Forster's effort.

I like Daniel Craig as Bond, and as good as Brosnan was you can't deny he was a sissy compared to Craig's Bond. He was a bit charmless in QoS, yes, but seeing as how they have wrapped up the angry loose cannon by the end of that movie, I'm very much looking forward to seeing his next outing... with Sam Mendes no less. Going by his choice of DP one thing is certain - it's going to be one of the bets looking Bond movies ever.

And I want John Powell for the score, but I think they are sticking with David Arnold.

But they both can't act, can't pull off a James Bond. I think Michael Fassbender would be a good choice. And if you want to go black, Chiwetel Ejiofor could be one, although I haven't seen in in anything recently.

For me Gerard Butler is bland. Stathom has a very cool aura around him but he isn't Bond. How about Tom Hardy? He probably looks a bit too young now but come the retirement of Craig he may just be up for it.

JGL doesn't have that Bond look, so he'll never cut it. Plus he's American isn't he?

Brosnan was a good Bond, but his type will never make it in today's cinema. Now people want a charismatic actor with a more brute edge as well. You can thank Jason Bourne for that. Next to Craig, Brosnan is a sissy.

Looks like a nerdy Cillian Murphy.

Yeah I was expecting a more radical looking villain when Bardem was announced. He looks like a typical Bond villain here.

Movie's still looking good.

Don't let Nolan anywhere near a Bond film. Skyfall is a pretty good rendition of a Nolan-esque Bond, with its highly plot-centric structure and Joker-like villain. The sequence where Silva is going for M in the hearing was edited just like in TDK! Unlike Nolan though Mendes has a clear eye for visuals and Deakins' backdropping the action scenes with some great imagery really elevate the action scenes and the film in whole.

I still shudder at the snow mountains action sequence in Inception. One of the dullest action scenes I've ever seen. Nolan, piss off.

Nolan along with his brother Jonathan can be a terrific writer, but the more I see his films the more I feel he just isn't good enough as a complete package director. His visual grasp is weak, arguably the most important aspect of a director's abilities. Mendes isn't an action director too- in terms of sheer fun and excitement I think the setpieces in Skyfall don't nearly reach the level of CR (who can forget the opening chase in Africa and then the airport sequence?), but he knows how to frame shots and piece scenes together with visual coherence and splendour, something Nolan is clearly lacking. And when you team up with one of the best cinematographers working today, you get action scenes with stunning backdrops. The blue neon background of the skyscraper in China. The glowing red Macau casino. The picturesque Scotland mountainside. The intense burning cottage in the final showoff, never far off the frame. You can't deny the action in Skyfall has arguably the best images in all of Bond films. I also love the shot of Bond walking from the dark hotel corridors into the bright, dusty streets of Istanbul. And that long introductory shot of Silva.
