I am currently using URL=http://www/pclinuxos.com]PClinuxOS[/URL]

I would say this is the best distro for Linux newbies. It just works right out of the box:
- firefox
- songs
- movies
- office suite
- bittorrrent, amule

It is a perfect windows replacement for me.

You can use the Live CD to install the distro on your computer.

I tried Ubuntu and PClinuxOS and I have to say PClinuxOS is a newbie friendly, the installation is easier than Windows, it worked out of the box except for DVD library which requires a bit of small effort to get it working thanks to Synaptic manager. I don't know about technical stuffs such as kernel, advantages of debian based distros and such, but I know that PClinuxOS just simply works. I greatly recommend this as windows replacement for newbies.

Nope, it would run just as fast. But some software maybe a bit buggy.
