Hi all,

i would like to start a thread on suggesting or volunteer themself as a mod in this section.

as this iphone section is being for awhile already but the rule n regulation here are not follow by some people here which make this section very messy (duplicated thread, noob question, flaming etc...). we need a some volunteer to maintain this section but there is no pay for this job and you may withdraw from this job if you think it is not suitable for you.

you all may also give suggestion on mod job function as below:

1. delete or combine duplicated thread. (this will reduce 'flaming' culture here)
2. warn those who flam at newbie. (you may report to mod if you think this somebody thread is duplicate or similar. let the mod to do his job)
3. etc...

please kindly give suggestion or volunteer as mod. i will list down the name as below before we make a poll.

number is not important because it is no point if there is no volunteer. as the more mod would be nice.

i guess we should elect only 3-5 mods... if so many pon will be chaotic

i think later on, we will list out all the mod job function and distribute equally to each mod, so that each of them have their own area to take care.

either by day or area.

Here's my 2 cents worth:

A mod should be a person who has a good grasp of LYN general R&R and also iPhone sub-forum specific rules. A mod should be a person who could reason well, tough with culprits, firm with his/her decisions and has good judgment. Above all, a mod should be able to dedicate a good part of his day to monitor the forum and could be easily reached by fellow forumers.

I know most of us want a mod that knows an iPhone in and out, but being a mod for me is like being a manager. The keyword is, manage. You could be a grandmaster in the iPhone arena but that doesn't mean you can be a good moderator.

So people, choose wisely. Me? I think Nokia2003 could make a good mod, but unfortunately he has pulled out of the race.

don't think I can act objectively (I'm kinda bias, and someone [u know who it is] is going to suffer if I were to take up the position )

I vote for Davidgary, or maybe cocklea (haha, was talking to him the other day about mod stuff, as there are quite a number of them based aussie, therefore we need one base in NZ as well and Cocklea says he might consider )

Appreciate the nomination or even consideration, but no. It has been my stance to not to accept any position of power in here, lest I'll be corrupted as how the current moderating team is. I'd rather be free to voice out my opinion than to be shackled by the code of conduct of being a moderator.

With that said, I hope whoever chosen to be a moderator in the iPhone section to remain partial and stay steadfast from being corrupted by the bad apples in the Powers-That-Be circle. If chosen, your priority is to look after the wellbeing and to put the forum members here FIRST, and not to expand your own OR your colleagues of power's agendas.

With that, I wholehearted agree to nominate DavidGary. Plus, I'm branching out of the Apple section with my current new purchase, and from the looks of things, I dont think I'll have ample time to scan and mediate the Apple section either if chosen.

David, you're on bro! Make sure you look after us the iPhone users.......NOT the mods! Your comrades here comes first.

I really appreciate the nomination but lately i couldn't find time to check on this forum as regular as before. So i might not be doing the job well and keep up to expectation. we are actually looking for a well versed moderator (specifically for iphone) who can point to the newbies to a corresponding link (and yet at the same time, putting a disclaimer that he/she can seek for more guidance if the link doesn't help) and subsequently closing it before any sort of trolling or flaming can take place.


we have no intentions of clicking the report button as we all know precisely how long is the list and by the time, you can actually get to it, the damage has been done.

In my defence: if u check with the mobile computing and handphone users, u'll see that i'm on almost 24 hours a day, and i'm only recently appointed mod so i dunno how slow was the report time response in your section, but i can almost basically guarantee action on my part within 24 hours when its reported.

however i DO support and believe that someone who is well versed in your section, should be a mod in your section. i for one am well versed in pda section, which was what i was promoted to mod in the first place for, and now also made mod of your section, so i know that a specific mod is not only better on the whole, but good for morale.

while i support this however, i do not have any say in the matter. up to admins and staff. which is why i moved your thread here so that admin and staff can actually look into your plight

fellow user =Hanxz=, has posted earlier than i did, but basically he shares the same opinion as well.


and seeing how recently that you have responded to the signature allegation in this very same subforum, i reckon that this will probably create more problems than help.


we are all very sick of all the unnecessary unharmonious environment in the iphone subforum and we want some sort of order imposed to it. as much as we love to share our knowledge, we don't endorse spoon feeding as well. therefore, i don't see how clicking the "report" button will bring any help in the first place. we need an all rounder moderator who is very well versed for this specialised subforum (which has prompted a lot of unnecessary repetitive questions from newbies)

rest assured that this is nothing personal or any intention to "steal your thunder" as a moderator. i have never doubted your work else where. guaranteed!


we just need someone to merge, delete and contain the threads accordingly (before the damage is being done). any matters which we deem to be more serious, we will make sure that our nominated candidate, davidgary73 will report to the higher authority for further actions/advice.

I find it ironic that a PDA moderator moderating the iPhone section. When push comes to shove, I doubt anyone who had no comprehensive knowledge on the workings of the iPhone AND how the scene is doing would be able to mediate it fairly.

It's like asking a football referee to mediate a volleyball match. He's be calling handball 24/7!

But then again, fair moderation is not a strong point I would associate with "you people" around here.

@stringfellow, well, if your chosen person becomes a mod, wouldnt he become "one of us"? while i may agree to this proposal, i do think that was uncalled for, and does nothing to help your cause.

One of you, yes.....but the more reliable kind. I do not hold blanket perception that all of "you people" are bad apples, there are those who do their work and maintain partiality. But like I said, when push comes to shove, when peer pressure adds in, when it comes to standing up to things that you personally believe, rather than acting based on hivemind mentality, what would your choices be?

That said, I think it would be fair to give you the benefit of the doubt, since you sounded sincere in your intentions of putting your newfound status to good use. But I still maintain my stand that an iPhone-specific mod, with all-round knowledge on the iPhone AND the scene itself should be the best man to do it. After all, we are looking for the "best man" to do it, not the "the best man who can be pulled into to sway to certain agendas". Not that I am implying that you are, Baronic, but you'll have to understand my general wariness when it comes to "you folks" after those past incidences.

P/S: This is not a flame, this is merely an observation and a comment. I don't have a cause, other than seeing the RIGHT thing done. If you consider this simple sentences as "a flame", then I'm afraid you have more to contend with, later in your moderating life here. I'd think I've been rather civil and accomodating, with a little mirth and cynics thrown in together.

There, I like you already. Respect IS earned, NOT given. The way some of your peers act around this forum, is like they DESERVE the respect, instead of earning it. No matter what color your tags are underneath your avatar, if you dont act your station, you cannot simply DEMAND respect. Like you said, you gotta earn it.

Please work with DavidGary carefully, but there are several things that needs constant monitoring. For example, as a moderator, I feel you need to know which threads are repeated and which aren't. How would you know if you dont frequent the forum you moderate? Relying on DavidGary 24/7 is not an efficient means of doing it, instead of relinquishing that task to DavidGary straight away, since he would recognize straight away, which thread is a repeat, or which thread has queries already answered, and needs to be purged or cleaned. Don't tell me you want to keep asking DavidGary all the time for this? What happens when David is not around? Who are you going to refer to? Are these people you refer to reliable in their consultation?

This is the reason why all of us in the iPhone section feel that we need to appoint someone who is familiar with the workings of the forum, as well as already have the grasp of what is adding to the forum, and what is redundant, repetitious and downright spam. It has nothing to do with who you are personally, we have nothing against you, it has everything to do with efficiently managing the forum right. You are the right person to do so in the PDA section, but ask yourself, are you the right person to do the same thing in the iPhone section?

Though the iphone section in LYN is still way behind compare to other forums, but I dun think a mod is required as there r only a few threads and not that busy or active like other section. In fact, we need indeed a bot to answering questions that have been asked again and again.

i also agree that iphone section have our own dedicated mod to monitor this area.

anyway, i have just realised that i have forgotten to summit my nomination for the suggested moderator post (ceh, macam the upcoming umno election pulak) after all this commotion.

Obvious reason you state that because i corrected you twice on posting a weblink to crack Appstore apps and you were extremely upset because to you, you embrace piracy and this is sharing tips and tricks to all. As the rules stated..
Rules and Regulation in LYN:
Action: Discussion, distribution or posting links to pirated software, pornography or any kind of copyrighted materials.
Result: Offending post will be deleted and user will be warned. Repeat offenders will get a temporary suspension to their account.

I'm just doing what the rules required. I'm not stoping you from posting. We love people to share their knowledge and tips and tricks. Hope you continue to do so.

Based on the list i think davidgary is the most suitable person to become the mod.
Those who are active at the iPhone thread would know the contribution by him.

Baronic working together with davidgary would work as well but i think it won't be as effective as having a specific mod for the iPhone thread.

I am not upset bcoz of that, I am upset coz such a senior member like u should differentiate btwn crack and hack, and also what is allowed and not allowed. I DID NOT ask u to visit the rest of the site, i only refer to to one of the pages of the site which offers u tips and tricks. Sometimes a bad website has an informative/legal/good page as well. Please please make it clear before throwing any accusation again.
