Since the res are still small, try to sunbath them once in a while under the sun on weekends. That would help them at least.

Omega, about the license thingy there is no way u can get away even if the said specimen was given by a fren or "cb" because the thumb rule is that any cites related animal, especially cites 1 are no where to be accepted as "ok". For the officers to say its ok, i think its just another bait to capture those animal keeper and confiscate their animal.
I think you need to read more on V2 and V3 to get the rough idea on what's happening now, so that you would understand why people here reacted that way. I know you want to share with us on the info given to you but we were stating the real world situation and explaining things to you from our experiences. |

QUOTE(the_catacombs @ Jan 12 2009, 11:46 PM) not sure though... i'm new in turtles... well, not actually... last time during primary i had one a few years until he died.... now i'm researching on behalf of my sis who wants to keep turtle... lolz.... That gravel pictured above is not recommended because the turtles can accidentally swallow the small gravels over time. What i can suggest is, use biological + chemical filter element combo to get the best result. For biological filter element, you can use crushed corals/molluscan shells and for chemical filter element you can use charcoals. A good powerfull pump, good quality wool filter element + biological + chemical filter element combo would get the job done just fine. A monthly change for the wool filter element and once in 3-4 months for the charcoal would result in greater cleaning power and long lasting clear water for your fellow testudinesbeneficial bacteria can buy from LFS... but i'm not sure how much to apply would it be safe for turtles... as for gravel, small ones will do... such as this one.. after dat can sumbat a few pokok inside and hope it will grow... lolz.... if ur water filter is strong enough, i dont think u need bacteria... if u not planning to plant any pokok... hehe... for display purposes, you might need to get bigger sized gravel with no sharp edges..
bare bottom setup would be the best especially when the water is crystal clear.. |

5.0 is good already for them, 2.0 im not sure wether its enough or not for the uvb output. You can use 2.0 if you bask them under the sun once in a while

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jan 17 2009, 11:53 PM) 2.0 is utterly useless for uvb. and note that 2.0 is actually brighter than 5.0, not the other way round more reasons to not be too concerned with side-effects of uvb light: i) emissions from those lights have very, very short effective range. ii) normal aquarium glass blocks uvb. yep, you're ain't gonna uvb radiation unless you're living inside the aquarium. iii) the only side-effect i got from using uvb light for years is increase of libido wakakaka anyway, if uv is your cause of concern, you can opt not to use them at all but instead feed those turtles food items containing vitamin D3. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Feed them with Guppy as treat, 1-2 times per week.
About the shyness and aquatic behaviour of your res its normal and its different for every of them so just leave it as it is. Its unique dont u think so ? |
