QUOTE(Faith+1 @ Mar 14 2010, 02:23 PM) Oh, thanks for all the inputs. I'm housed my AST inside my house and it's kind of hard for my AST to get a direct sunlight. If I want to get and UV light to solve this problem, what are the recommended UV light (watts) that are suitable for AST? and how long should I turn on the light? Thanks a lot. Just get the lowest watts and on maybe 1 hr a day or few hours at once , once a week But not really needed for this specie

PG AST Army? Yes if only I have a huge mansion.
Lol.
Addon: Is it okay to change water like 2 - 3 times a day for baby AST? Will this caused any unnecessary stress to the turtle? Because my baby AST keep on eat and poop a lot.

I change mine daily evemthough I use filter, they are much more messier than matamata. Mine poops everytime after I change the water. Hahaha

Some keep the water level high, I keep mine above the shell but not to high just enough for the ast to stretch and take a breath without struggling.

Haha, you have to be committed otherwise the water will be so dirty that you can't see the turtle anymore.

The height of spikes on ast is not due to water level, it's due to the growth rate, food and nutrients, dna etc which got nothing to do with water level, that's all i'm saying. The spikes grows longer and bigger from baby to juvie and gradually will level down as they grow bigger and older. Cheers.

(caraspace) and may i know how to increase the growth rate of the AST besides feeding is alot of food? eg. increase water flow rate or something?

There is no specific growth rate for ast. I have one 5 inch which grew to 7 inch in 5 months which before that was with the previous owner for 5 years without any growth. turtle will grow at their own pace regardless of space etc however food is the primary source for growth, but not to the extend of it being obese which will result in health issues. Let nature takes it's course and enjoy having them as pets rather than trying to power feed them. Cheers.
