The Benq monitors were selling at below RM600 for the while now. With both LG and Samsung are now selling 22" models below RM700 and RM650, I thought it would be good to compare the models manufacturer panel specs to check on that are causing the price variants. Hopefully, these info can be used to make an informed 22" monitor purchase and that we wont feel cheated.

After my little research, i found that the even though all models are listed at 22" at LY price lists, not all of the LCD panels are 22". The brightness, native resolution and response time also vary.

I hope the mods are okay with this thread as i think it should stand up alone and not get buried under hundreds of posts in the LCD monitor discussion thread!

These infos are taken from each manufacturer's Malaysia website.

Priced below RM600,

BenQ G2110W IS NOT 22" as many of the price list in Lowyat put it.

Native resolution = 1680 x 1050
Response time = 5ms
Screen Size = 20.1"
Brightness = 250cd/m²

http://www.benq.com.my/products/LCD/?produ...=specifications

BenQ T221WA

Native resolution = 1680 x 1050
Response time = 5ms
Screen Size = 22.0"
Brightness = 300cd/m²
Does not have DVI connector.

http://www.benq.com.my/products/LCD/?produ...=specifications

Priced below RM650 (16 Oct) Priced reduced to below RM600 on 17 Oct laugh.gif

LG 226WTQ listed at 22"

Native resolution = 1440 x 900
Response time = 2ms (GTG)
Screen Size = 22''
Brightness = 300cd/m²

http://my.lge.com/prodmodeldetail.do?actTy...2252TQ&model=14

Added: Another LG model : 22" LG W2242T also selling below RM600

Priced below RM700

Samsung 2253LW

Native resolution = 1680 x 1050
Response time = 5ms, 2ms (GTG)
Screen Size = 21.6''
Brightness = 300cd/m²

Added: 22" 2243LNX also selling below RM700 now

hmmmmm at least there's some research done.

maybe people can contribute about more monitors and their price / specs n stuff.

then we can pin it up, sorta like a buying guide?
or is there such a thing already?

my aim of creating this thread is to educate people before they get a 22" LCD monitor. 22" monitors are cheap and the prices are not that much of difference now. The prices are like 19" CRT monitors 4 years ago tongue.gif

the specs can also potential buyers to narrow specs that they think that are not important to them so that they can ignore when deciding on which model to get.

for example. if your monitor will be in a "brightness controlled" room, lets say, if they can minimize the amount of sunlight coming to the room by adjusting a sun shield curtain or the monitor will be placed in a dark room, then they can ignore the brightness feature of a monitor. You need your monitor as bright as you can get when you are in a very bright room.

secondly, the connectors for example. If you dont want a digital connection, analogue vga connection works perfectly for you, than the BenQ 22" with only analogue input suits you fine.

Well, those new 22" from Samsung is indeed 21.6". Its confirmed when i was around Samsung showroom in LYP the other day. They said that they chance the panel from 2253BW to the new 21.6" which leads to the price drop.

But its indeed surprising to see the 22" from LG is using 1440 x 900 as native resolution.

the reason that i compare these four models is because these are the cheapest 22" monitors in the Malaysian market. I didnt compare them to the more expensive once because its unfair as some of the more expensive models may be using sharper and more expensive panels.

These cheaper models are no mean for graphic designers. These models are more people who just want a larger screen and screw everything else. laugh.gif u know to watch 350MB DiVX tv series and TVB series, watching U-Tube and advertisement plagued MTV series brows.gif brows.gif

and once in a while extracting his or her worst enemy head and putting it on a monkey's body using a pirated Adobe Photoshop, using MS office to type letter of separation for gf/bf ... you know wink.gif

any news about 19" price drop too? they don't seem to have dropped much. saw yesterday at the mines, lg w2242t selling at rm649, and w1942t selling at rm549, just rm100 difference. thinking of going for a 19" first...

i would suggest to save up and make a big leap in LCD size later. 22" & 17" differs alot by a big margin.

omg = i know something is happening in the background causing the sudden drop of 22" monitors. This is the reason:
QUOTE
BenQ has recently launched a new range of Full HD 16:9 LCD monitors to the market. Featuring 100% mapping to 1080p content and 5Gbps data transit, the new models are spread across BenQ’s E Series and M Series LCD displays. This range also includes what BenQ claims to be the world’s first 21.5” Full E2200HD LCD monitor, which will be targeted to gamers, movie enthusiasts, families, and professionals alike.

    "Future-proof HDMI and DVI-D (both with HDCP) deliver easy connection to HD gaming consoles, Blu-ray players and set-top boxes.  Gamers and movie fans are catered to as well with headphone jack, D-Sub, and super-smooth picture quality via the fast 2ms GTG response time.  Senseye+photo Human Vision Technology, a proprietary digital image enhancement engine, additionally fine-tunes depth, clarity, and boldness with five preset modes – Standard, Dynamic, Photo, Movie and sRGB.  Exceptional dark detail definition is afforded by a high 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, which automatically adjusts the display’s backlight to optimize light levels for every scene.  The sophisticated M Series in particular also sports a 2.0M webcam, integrated speakers, and microphone to make internet chatting more fun and spontaneous."

BenQ 16:9 1080p Full HD LCD displays are available now and prices range from RM689.00 to RM1,500.00.

There will only be three 22: FULL HD LCD with the launch of E2200HD, T2200HD monitor. So RM689 is basically the price for the 1080p T2200HD 22" monitors shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif Out of the three both are with HDMI1.3 the most updated HDMI. T2200 only has Analogue and DVI = still at SRP RM689, still value for money laugh.gif

How on earth LG and Samsung's non FULL HD 22" going to compete with this model at only RM689 sweat.gif sweat.gif Expect LG and Samsung prices to drop further!

T2200HD = full HD, no HDMI Dynamic contrast 10K http://www.benq.com.my/products/LCD/?produ...=specifications
M2200HD= Full HD, HDMI1.3, Dynamic contrast 10K http://www.benq.com.my/products/LCD/?produ...=specifications
E2200HD = FUll HD, HDMI1.3, Dynamic contrast 10K http://www.benq.com.my/products/LCD/?produ...=specifications

TAKE NOTE THAT THESE monitors are cheaper than other as some of the monitor expensive 24" has 1920 x 1200 resolution. All the 22" BenQ monitors listed have 1920 x 1080p (basically FULL HD TV's resolution).

i doubt you could use those gcs to play games at full settings and at hd resolution. IMHO need a higher end graphic card to support. especially now with more and more games with demanding graphics.

Yeah, I like the price drop. However, I'm going to stick to 16:10, widescreen gaming isn't very broad, and the developers most probably do not like us having super extended view range using 16:9, even 16:10 they already panas. Plus, bigger black borders if you use 16:9 or bigger vertical minus with 16:9, so nah, not my choice. I'll wait for 1920x1200(full hd also what smile.gif ) monitors (24") to drop.

Mind to write some review.

What the different between LG W2252TQ and LG W2242T?

22" with 1920 x 1080 resolution is like to fit large resolution into smaller screen (normal 1680x1050) and 24" with 1920 x 1080 resolution is like downgrading the total resolution from 1920 x 1200. Which one better? Higher resolution or larger screen size?

Sure will. Unless you want to watch 1080p stuff on 1920x1080 @ 22", get a 1680x1050. Because the pics wouldn't look as sharp as it would on native res.

You could make it look better by running 1680x1050 using 1:1 mapping or use the driver to map, but there will be black bars around and it will look smaller. What's the point in doing this when you could get 1680xx1050 on 22" easily? If can afford to get Blu-ray stuff, you'd probably be able to afford something better anyways.

What's the point in doing this when you could get 1680xx1050 on 22" easily? If can afford to get Blu-ray stuff, you'd probably be able to afford something better anyways.

the kind of answer i was looking for notworthy.gif

altho my monitor support 1680 x 1050, i use it at 1440x900, at 1680x1050, even on 22" it is abit difficult to read, well to melah atleast, since normally large screen we place it abit away, i got such a big screen i dont wish to stress my eyes tongue.gif

duno wheter benq lcd improves or not with the new model, lg is coming out with new model too hence the price drop.

own a g2200w before, weird enough benq have less bleeding but other then tht, lg is better.

Hi guys,

streamyx problem these past few days.

Im sure that the one i bought is LG W2252TQ smile.gif @ rm650 @ Pyramid. Actually that day i wanted to buy the LG w2242T at Digital Mall PJ. Some users reported that the Samsung 2253LT? has some hissing/buzzing sound so i canceled that from my list. Can someone confirm this?

The W2252TQ is similar to the W2242T except:

- Glossy frame
- different body design
- FUN button <-- I dont think Ill be using the functions biggrin.gif

Short review,

- Has 4 customizable presets.. the Movie preset works great out of the box.
- to me picture quality is good.. black=black, blue=blue etc2.. ive got a TV to watch movies on
basically it fulfills my need..

cons,

- a bit of backlight bleeding at the side.. the type that "you wont see it if you dont look for it". unnoticable under normal usage.
- the stand is a bit flimsy..
- FUN Button functions are not that useful ( Sephia mode, etc..)

Directions to the shop where i bought it:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

w2242t pretty much same with w2252tq from this review too. minus the glossyness tongue.gif and some other funky function biggrin.gif

if reviews say w2252tq has a great lcd on it, then w2242t basically the same smile.gif

From LG website, W2242t has 5ms response time but w2252tq 2ms (GTG). Another difference is the contrast ratio. (10,000 vs 8,000)

Most games also have widescreen mode, which means you can see a bit more on the sides compared to 4:3.

Or you can see less of the top and bottom. Depends on the game (bioshock does vertical minus). 4:3 for maximum compatibility. Then again, you can do 4:3 for 16:10 screens, with black bars. 16:9 is a no-no, black bars would be bigger, and you would see less of the top and bottom if the game does it that way. Google widescreengamingforum.

You don't see 4:3 30" monitors these days. 16:10 has become the norm. 16:9 is quite reserved for movies, not to mention that I think it's better to go 16:10 for the reasons stated above. Plus, the black bars by watching 16:9 movies on 16:10 isn't that big. At least it makes it look like I'm watching a damn dvd and won't make me look like I'm watching a ripoff or something like that for 4:3 vids.

The way you talk is like people with specs have poor eyesight. True in a way, but the way you talk like...well, they still can't see with specs on.

Gosh. Don't you have friends with specs

Anyways, people with specs, to look closer, take off specs sure can look better, close up of course, FYi.

IMHO, for the LG's, w552tq, Look at the typical contrast and you'd realise they have 700:1 ratio, which is alright if you are on a budget, but there are those with 1000:1 ratio, although I have never seen any of these, generally, more ratio is better. This is the real ratio, as opposed to the fancy Dynamic Contrast Ratio which says little.
2ms vs 5ms, meh, if you could differentiate, I'll call you god. Most people who moved from 5ms to 2ms and then say the response is better are mostly under the placebo effect anyways. Give them 2ms and 5ms to view without telling them which is which and most of not all can't tell the difference.

That's my take on the cheap LG 22"s. Well, you pay for what you get at the end of the day.

i doubt that there are significance drop in picture quality running 1680x1650 on 1080p 22", just the different ratio. 16:9 = 1680x945
and he said gaming wise, not 1080P media playback
i myself gaming using native res 1440x900 compared with 1280x800 and I didn't notice significance picture quality drop

Native resolution is the best resolution for a monitor. I try to play DMC4 under lower resolution with my 17" LCD but the picture is not nice, not as good as native resolution. So, for hardcore gamer (PC game) you need to compare your computer spec to match with lcd monitor native resolution before buying. May be 19" is enough.

IMO, 16:9 monitor is a waste of time. The black bars aren't very obvious. Furthermore, most movies are 1:85 or worst. 2:35:1 (or something like that) which can't fit into 16:9 anyway. No matter how, black bars is inevitable for watching movies. It is only HDTV standard that is 16:9, meaning u can watch ur favorite DOWNLOADED(note the word downloaded...Malaysia is not gonna have HDTV broadcast anytime soon) TV shows like Heroes and Termintor TSCC without the black bars for16:9 (and a small black bar for 16:10).

I would personally prefer 16:10 for monitor...bigger is better for gaming.
