QUOTE(cherroy @ Oct 20 2008, 07:26 PM) What I mean detach is even US rally 500 or 1000 points, KLSE won't react much on it, even some other regional bourses. Primary reason is a lot of foreign investors had shy away from overseas market especially emerging market one. The market will take negative news but won't react much positive news, as said we have local problem to sort out for near term before any meaningfull bounce can take place. We are entering a consolidation phase which may take quite long as market wait for how economy react to current crisis and assessing impact of it. Oh, that i agree with you.

Today is a roller coaster with low volatility for KLCI. FKLI has a bigger standard deviation. Volume is low.
Can someone clarify why futures in any countries are more volatile than the main index? Is it because of uncertainty always create volatility?

Yes, there are a lot of uncertainty in the market that's why you see big swing, as people has no direction which way market is going, and sentiment and mood change (which can happens quite drastically) can be a big factor in short term wise.

The lack of liquidity is causing a huge difference in bid/ask spread. That's why you are noticing huge price swings in either direction; especially in DJIA mini futures or DOW futures.
Added on October 21, 2008, 3:04 pmDow futures under significant pressure. Caterpillar earnings before bell.

I went to Investor Expo 2008 and was told by the guy at Bursa Malaysia on recommending a position in Futures market at the current economic outlook. If futures and main index (stocks) are comparable in volatility, what makes an approach to invest in futures a wiser decision? Is it because we are able to short in FKLI? On the other hand, there is no other way to earn in a bear market (In MALAYSIA only - besides RSS).

Yes, you have an option to hedge against your equity portoflio or you can short the market for speculative purposes. Although risky, futures are very rewarding if you have strong analytical skills which is needed in forecasting DOW futures/ Nikkei futures/ FKLI direction. Added on October 21, 2008, 3:27 pmDow Futures -123. This post has been edited by AdamG1981: Oct 21 2008, 03:27 PM

Not much can attend. Seem people getting less interest in stock market now due to economy recession. No more money to invest in...
