remove active from old hdd
*
i see, is there anyway i could do it in Disk Management? or i must do it in old school way which uses diskpart.exe in ms-dos?

because currently now, i can't find where to remove active from old hdd, i only know how to mark active. my OS is Win7 64bit ultimate.

some forumer on lyn still have stock for F3 1TB, I just bought 1 units Samsung F3 1TB from Hikari85 @ RM230 few day ago , but not sure now still got stock or not.

Just notice WD BLack 1TB 32MB @ RM280, WD Black 1TB 64 SATA III 6 Gb/s (WD1002FAEX) @ RM315
Which 1 is better?  Does WD1002FAEX have any different if using on SATA II motherboard? or need to grab a new motherboard with support SATA III?

current HDD now is still unable to max out sata 2

Caviar Black 1tb 64mb cache, the only thing that uses sata 3 was the 64mb cache that does only a little perfomance gain, well i doubt that. HDD is still the bottleneck, and still cannot use even half of sata II. Let's forget about Sata III, unless you using SSD.

samsung turning hdd marketing pricing upside down. while intel turning ssd marketing price upside down.

Well, future, i was hoping to grab one SSD for system booting. let's hope intel will continue to forcing the price to drop down to hdd pricing.

maybe something like 160gb for RM200~300.

160GB for RM200-300, might need long wait.

Until now, there is no sign of massive dropdown of SSD price, even though there is news about this year end, there would be 50% drop in SSD, but it just merely they double the capacity, but price remain almost same, the so call 50% reduction is not in price.
*
well, it's still a 50% reduction.

For now 1GB cost around RM15.

Later 1GB cost around like RM7.5.

That's a huge improvement.

If that's the case, kingston and other brand will also be making changes unless they wanted to be left behind.

err.. not for storage.. normally will install software everything..
or maybe games for performance..
nowadays also need alot of space.. so if install sure not enough..

that's why last time i even sell my raptor coz not enough space..
atleast need 250gb like that for primary hdd..
*
i agree with this,
For desktop, we need atleast a bigger hdd atleast 150gb or more.
So the price would still be acceptable.

But what cherroy say is true as well, the reason is for Laptop user, for 80gb for RM300~400, that's hugely a very good improvement.

Instead, they choose to increase the capacity without decreasing the price is a major turn off for laptops, but for us as a desktop user, it's surely a good improvement. since 160gb is surely enough for software and games.

Now games is already 5~15gb, and software from 1mb to 5gb. For what i think 80gb isn't really enough. unless you're a light laptop user, something between you're travelling around with your laptop, working, sitting at starbucks online, a little bit of gaming. But having multiple games in 80gb ssd, is not possible.

QUOTE(qiyi @ Jun 20 2010, 02:59 AM)
Questions about partitioning.
Bought new HDD intend to install OS to it.
I have made 2 partitions J: and K:
So the first partition(J:) will be automatically partitioned on the outer most side of the hard disk layer correct? So this is where is best to install OS?

In order to install my OS to this new HDD, I have to install a new copy of OS to J: and then delete my drive C: ya?
So J: will be automatically set as MBR? And i can change J: path to C: later ya?
Please correct me if I'm wrong. Tq
*
Not sure about this, but volume letter can be reassign later in Disk Management. while the MBR part, it will mostly automatically set, you can check it by Start > Run > Type "Msconfig"

Wow,is that better to get a 1tb f3 or a 2tb samsung(Bought 1 few months ago with around RM250)?What is the price for 2tb Samsung?Or I just purchase the 1tb version for the time being instead of 2tb?
Anybody out there tried WD 1tb Cavier Black 6Gbps? notworthy.gif
*
The Samsung 2tb only has 5400rpm thou i'm not sure it's F3 or F1.

Here's the benchmark from HD Tune.
user posted image
as you can see, it's significantly slower than 1tb version.

try looking for model WD1002FAEX benchmark, that's the Caviar Black 64mb cache SataIII model.

If you want to compare the perfomance between Caviar Black 64mb cache 1tb and Samsung Spinpoint F3 1tb. it's still lose to samsung spinpoint f3.

the only HDD can wins over samsung spinpoint F3 performance is WD2001FASS Caviar Black 2TB. This HDD packs a punch in performance as well as in price. 299 USD. w00t
