Okay I understand where you are coming from. In Msia the travelling distance is much greater and stock distribution is most uneven. Which brings me to discuss the definition of "scalping". I'm sure most of us have come across a scalper before but it bears different meaning to different people.

From the DICTIONARY:
1. To engage in the reselling of something, such as tickets, at a price higher than the established value.
2. To buy and sell securities or commodities for small quick profits.

IMHO: Therefore, to me the "intention" is key to defining a scalping act or not.

Buying many of the same items, one each for your car club members is not scalping (even if it deprives others). Buying many of the same items not because you like them but because it is cheap and you are likely to resell them later on for a profit is scalping.

Buying a few of the same models because you are a collector and you want one mint, one for display and one for investment for the future (no immediate plans for sale) even when there is only five items remaining on the shelf is not scalping. Buying up what's left to restrict Market Supply so that prices maintain or increase is scalping.

Buying with the intention for keeps but changed your mind within days and to put it for sale/trade is fine but buying it with a running "Power Seller" ebay account waiting for new stocks/inventory is not. A business entity should buy from the supplier or distributor, not compete with down-to-earth collectors at the customer stores.

If all else fails using common sense will do cause it's plain to see actually..

.. and there is no way to exclude them from ghosting and shadowing forums for the best deals in town which is why I have recommended someone take lead and form a group with trusted personnel only to help look out for each other. Scalpers do exists and there are here to stay, they form another group of people in society in which dealing with them is part and parcel of a collector's life.

IT IS a little mix-mashed but actually this thread serves a greater purpose of drawing in new collectors and allows the daily sharing of knowledge and joy of collecting Tomicas in a fast and compact manner.

The Multiply website you proposed is basically similar to our individual blogs. One concern is the hosting space for the galleries of individuals. The blogs can do this already and alternatively the administrators could upgrade the forum to include a gallery function.

I would like to raise two points about what's been said so far.

I. To be a success, we need the support of a critical mass. A sizeable group of Tomica collectors and a core team to run this "breakaway league". To this end, we need a team who is willing to come out with the time, money and commitment to see it to fruition ->> Not Easy.

II. I have seen many sites dedicated to the Diecast Hobby and many a site died a natural death once the owner/team lost interest and/or other things of priority just got in the way. I have not seen a website dedicated solely to Tomica Collecting (except maybe Tomica Fan Club Indonesia) and I certainly hope that one can materialise sometime in the future. It is a bit like looking for a business partner, where you would be looking for some capital, lots of hard work and be counting 100% on his/her reliability to deliver ->> Lagi Not Easy.

Me 2 Cts

Current I only know Multiply have this type of function...

Since I have already mentioned my views, maybe can hear from others too. If you are serious about making it happen, find your team members and together all can brainstorm for ideas.. sorry this is getting a bit Off-Topic already.. blush.gif

So any good idea to have group?
Or stay the same using LYN spam only?

I was in the same situation as ADV. Buying what I like.. including Real-X, Majorette, Matchbox, HotWheels, Wellys, Kyosho, Choro-Q.. well you name it. Soon however, I realise that not only budget but the storage space became the practical consideration and limiting factors and decided to concentrate on Tomica Collecting - with the odd purchase of non-Tomica diecast now and then nod.gif

I used to have matchbox cars when i was very young but alas there are all gone and a pity I have not kept them. Now I'm back with Tomicas &.. Matchboxes (right word?) and not counting the few-and-far purchases in between, I have seriously started on my collection for about three over years tongue.gif

How long aready have u been colleting TL & Tomica? Maybe can do some xchange with u.

Added on October 24, 2008, 12:45 pmBlack Box Series and otherwise known as local model (from Japan point of view) that started it all. Not all Black Boxes are the same as there are variants on how the boxes are done and I will update when I find more information about this blush.gif
