same tension as ur gosen?
maybe ur technique is incorrect so a heavier racket may cause more obvious effect? hmm.gif

if not mistaken 25 lbf.and the gosen was around 24..not much difference i think..only the kx i use thinner string..mybe u r right..my technique..hurm~

thinner string would feel tighter..
and u strung it even higher than the thicker string
so that might be the reason of ur sore arm

yes tighter..
example, 0.62mm string @ 25lbs would feel like 27lbs with 0.67mm string

If you don't mind I recommend my own brand, do consider RCL shuttlecocks with the price around RM45 one. But I would say if you increase your budget to RM55, you can get shuttlecocks which are more durable and worthier.

does RCL have plastic shuttles?

QUOTE(Fantasia @ May 31 2010, 01:52 AM)
thx for ur info notworthy.gif . i google about kickpoint, but dont really understand... high kick point= can generate more power ?? and i also google pivot point and sweet point... a bit blur la. sweet point = the best spot on string when shuttle contact it?? to be honest, compare to my friend's racquet, my racquet really light. and i need to use VERY huge amount of energy to to clear from my baseline to opponent baseline. i'm using bg 65. izzit string also 1 of the factor it lack of power?? been using this racquet for like more than 6 years...
*
from my understanding, kick point = balance point (bp in short and normally measured in mm)
sweet point = sweetspot where it produces the best performance (i suppose if the shuttle hits any other spots except the sweetspot, it's consider as mishit)

the weight of the racket might be the factor for ur lack of power
if the racket is headlight, it will make matters worst
string has minimal factor but tension has a big factor
maybe consider lowering the tension?

QUOTE(Calvin Seak @ May 31 2010, 11:49 PM)
EHhh i think string got alot of difference!

Heres my 2 cents

Currently I am only exposed to most Yonex strings and Zymax62 and Accupower62.

For yonex strings apple to apple comparison
all strings with the TI word behind each model has Titanium coating which is very slippery on strings.

Nanogy strings are equally slippery and after a few months of play the coating may wear off and you may need to change to a new string for a similar feel.

Basically I love BG80 =D but currently using BG66Maxima a .65mm string from Japan. I hate slippery strings because when i do trick shots such as slices it is inaccurate for me, BUT it may be different for you guys!

oh! I did a 29lbs on my zymax62 and accupower 62 which feels like a 31 for a BG66 so the thinner the strings try to lower down your tension since it feels stiffer!
*
yo calvin..

yes the ti coating is very slippery
if u hv chance, try BG66Sharp..thicker version of BG66 with same amount of power but with better durability

yupe..0.7mm strings @ 29lbs will feel like 27 for BG66
that's the idea..inaccurate comparison tho haha

QUOTE(Fantasia @ Jun 1 2010, 12:12 AM)
is that any way for check my string tension??
*
if u're experience enuf, few hits on the palm and u can come out with the approximate tension based on the sound

QUOTE(Aeon_Clock @ Jun 1 2010, 01:43 AM)
I got this new racket for myself...Apacs EdgeSaber 10. Very nice, I can do accurate hits now. But have to hit really really hard to smash far. I fitted Ashaway Zymax 67 (durable) @ 25lbs. Should I change to something with more repulsive power or just increase tension to 27lbs?
*
what was ur previous tension? and string?

Yonex Carbonex X8 @ 27lbs.
*
what about string? maybe you should increase it to 27lbs and give it a try

QUOTE(findecano1 @ Jun 1 2010, 02:32 PM)
It is more of a matter of preference IMO. I still prefer rougher strings like BG80 which is better for netplay as it kind of 'grabs' to the birdie when doing tumbling netshots. Currently using ZM67 but it is kind of not as good as BG80 at the same tension. In badmintoncentral, there's a talk about ZM67 being somewhat a little different compared to ZM62 and ZM70.

Sound IMO does affect some what of performance. My understanding is that if you can hear the BOOMING at least you know you are hitting dead on the sweet spot. It gives somewhat of a 'confirmation' that you have hit the birdie correctly.
*
they call it the lost child or stg..lol
doesnt have the zymax traits

QUOTE(Omage007 @ Jun 1 2010, 03:21 PM)
Jumping smash, what is the reason some people will bend their leg upward and some won't?? own preference? can jump higher? can smash more powerful?

i'm not sure but i think it increase the power
it's like curl your whole body backwards, and when release the curl towards front, it produces more power

hey there

im using fleet nano ace racket.. head quite heavy

but every time when receiving serve from opponent, cant put the shuttle in front of net, will tend to miss it or place the shuttle too high,

m i using the correct racket??

my playing style more towards drop shot, not smashing..
*
no offense dude but u're blaming the racket rather than ur own technique?
the racket is not a magic wand..even if it is, u nid the correct spell (technique) to cast the spell and produce the result u wan

string and tension might have a little bit of effect too

how long have u played with the racket?
if it's a new one, play and practice more with it
eventually, u will be able to master the skill u wan with it

QUOTE(Fantasia @ Jun 11 2010, 12:42 AM)
guy, can i know when is the most suitable time to increase my string tension?? coz today i ask a experience stringer to help me check my tension, he said my tension at most also 22 only, quite low. i feel like increase it but i dont know i should do that or not. been using that racquet for like more than 5 years....
*
do u like the control of the racket now?
if not maybe u can try increasing it a little bit
maybe 24lbs?

the way i test is having multiple rackets
i string 1 racket 2lbs higher, just to see if i can handle it or not
not a good way i think laugh.gif

QUOTE(pooh88 @ Jun 11 2010, 01:03 AM)
I think high tension is suitable for control, low tension is for more power to smack the shuttlecock if this the same theory as tennis  sweat.gif
Correct me if i wrong,i still learning  brows.gif
*
something like that laugh.gif
but if u have the power to flex the string bed with high tension, u can c the shuttle got "fire" lmao

QUOTE(cartographer @ Jun 11 2010, 11:21 AM)
im not a badminton pro, just wanna share my opinion:

yea u can try a lighter racket cuz IMVO and for me, lighter rackets gives me more control

im like u, i dont smash much.

and i love light rackets  biggrin.gif
*
some say head light rackets provide more control
so Bumbee, u can try to get a head light racket

and still, i don't mean head heavy racket cannot provide control
it still depends on technique

im a head heavy user (Been using AT700,AT900p and now N90)
IMHO

People get mixed up with control, anyways what is control?

I don't find any difficulty at nets using a head heavy racket, the only major difference i find is that when using an Arcsaber10 and N90 I find it very hard to lift the shuttle high when returning smashes during doubles aggressive play using the N90 compared to Arcsaber10.

Trick shots that only require wrist motion also requires more effort compared to a lighter racket.

That's my conclusion =)

Added on June 12, 2010, 10:34 pmI lost in a Mens singles open today badly sad.gif I am very sad
*
master of trickshot tongue.gif

u tried zul's arc10 or u got ur own?

arc10 is easier to defense due to it being more balance..head heavy rackets move slower compared to even balanced and light head

Ya, time to bring some revolution to the badminton sport. . .  nod.gif

It require a lot more skill to control 2 rackets, can play trick shot more also, opponent need to alert you will use left racket or right racket to hit the shuttlecock. . .  biggrin.gif  no more backhands weakness attack, now both side also become forehands, both side also can perform jumping smash. . .  biggrin.gif

and string snap happen quite offen during the tournament, so now the chances will lose point when string snap can be reduce since you still got another racket to continue the game. . .  flex.gif

Added on June 12, 2010, 11:37 pm
power is nothing without control. . .  a female pro player can defeat a beginner male player easily although the male player got double the strength then the female player, get what I mean?  but when skill level is around the same then strength is important, as you can notice the level gap between those world class female player and male player. . .  and heavy racket is very subjective, for a strong guy your heavy racket could be not heavy enough for him. . .
*
it also depends on how heavy is the racket itself
a 2u at700 will make every strong guy cry lol

Bro Ziggy,

Where usually u play badminton?
*
when i was in kl, i play at SM La Salle, jalan gasing, pj

QUOTE(Fantasia @ Jun 13 2010, 09:41 PM)
any1 can clarify this?? if i use the tension too high until i cant handle, beside the racquet will vibrate after i hit the shuttle, any other symptom to indicate that??
*
the higher the tension, the small the sweetspot. so if u can hit the sweetspot, it's really very "sweet" haha

like wat calvin said, ur arm will hurt because u can't handle the impact from the string bed

QUOTE(Calvin Seak @ Jun 14 2010, 12:25 AM)
HAHaha =D No worries!
Been playing singles lately at south quay with a few guys, haha im an underdog there =p
Ur arm will hurt after your game or maybe the next day wink.gif if not its alright! Some racket vibrates and some dont. if you are on a tight budget why not try apacs visible hollow series. Most of my racket that i have used dont vibrate much
I've been using bg80 for 2 years, its a great string! A standard rule would be, the ticker the string the higher the tension =D for example

usually you play with BG 66 @ 26lbs
with BG 80 try going 28lbs

=D
*
visible hollow feels different from other racket. but heard it's good in absorbing impact
dude, all ur rackets r HIGH-END..of coz they don't vibrate much hahahahaha

wa..no nid add 2lbs
actually same tension oso ok coz the thickness not so different
maybe add 1lb la..

if play with ZM62, then nid to reduce 2-3lbs because it feels 2-3lbs tighter compared to 0.66mm string

QUOTE(Fantasia @ Jun 14 2010, 03:53 AM)
LOL, I ALSO PLAY IN SOUTH QUAY!!! will be going there tmr ^^ actually i'm eyeing on tantrum 200. at 1st i put my budget around RM450 and feel like getting a yonex racquet(since most of my kaki using yonex, want to use the same brand so that i can feel united with them  sweat.gif ) but then after few days of reconsidering, i think that no point getting such expensive racquet as my skill still not enough to fully utilise the racquet. i still want to see how my old racquet can serve for the next few games, will try to string it at 26lbs tmr if possible
*
ur budget not that sufficient for yonex high ends and heard their low end racket sux!
tantrum200 is a good racket but mind u, it's quite stiff..if i'm not mistaken, it's rated extra stiff (7.5-8.0)
my apacs clone is rated stiff (8.0-8.5)
