Yeah, i agree that if you bought it without changing the strings, chances are that the strings are pretty old and rusted. I usually swap out new strings the day I buy my guitar. 13-56 or 12-53 are a good gauge to start for a beginner. D'addarios or Dunlops should cost you around Rm20-25 a pack.

You can find tons of vids on youtube on how to change the strings. It's really easy actually. Also, since you're a beginner, it would be wise to invest in a good tuner and a Peg Winder, which would save your already aching hands from more blisters.

Well, if you tune it down, it just shows how old and rusty the strings really are.
better change to a good set in case the rest snaps in the middle of performing.

Don't worry about Floyd Rose.....
That's only for Electric Guitar Musicians to worry about.

Most of the time, if one guitar string breaks on my guitars, I usually change the whole set. My strings lasts me between 4 to 6 months if I don't play very often, and 3-5 months on my more heavily played guitars. Usually by that period, one string snaps and then voosssh..... complete string change.

Wouldn't say one is better then the other....... Mostly personal preference really.

I went through LOTS of brands before I landed with Jim Dunlop for electrics and Elixirs for my Acoustic.

Try Jim Dunlop acoustics. I read alot of good things about it. Might give it a try once my current Elixir dies.

Hmmmmmmmm......... right now I'm DAMN tempted to hold a "restringing lessons" workshop for people having trouble with restringing.

Maybe some kind soul can let us use their shop? Have a bunch of strings for sale too......
