i think they're still testing the game, since i read and saw somewhere that the game have real-time weather effect?
so probably they're test running the game real-time 24/7 356/12, for the 4 seasons of the year to see if its working. |

QUOTE A small update Dear people, We feel we owe you all a small heads up, and our apologies for lack of updates. This is just part of our psychological thriller, is it all real or imagined... Seriously, yes, we're still here and working hard on getting Alan Wake for you to enjoy. Sure, we've been in development for a long time and if everything had gone perfectly smoothly there probably would be a game out for you guys to play already. But designing a completely new game can be hard, and sometimes you need to take a detour to find the best route forward. We want to entertain you guys in the best possible way and our team is putting in every effort possible in order for that to happen. That is the way Remedy wants to do things. I'm sure you will enjoy Alan Wake when we're done. Just follow the light... Dated 18 August 2008 SOURCE |

During Microsoft's press conference today, fans of the survival-horror genre received some very appetizing news. The long-awaited title from developer Remedy, Alan Wake, will be coming in Spring of 2010. |

It must have required a whole lot more work since they said that it will utilise Quad cores like no other game. 1 core for Weather, 1 core for Physics, 1 core for Game, 1 core for AI or sumthin like that. cant remember exactly coz read it so many years ago.

It will definitely release to PC after 6 months, just stay tuned. It could be publish by Rockstar anyway.
QUOTE The same sort of rationale would then be applied to the PC version as well? You wanted to focus your attention on getting the 360 version right? What would be required for the PC version to happen? MM: That's an interesting question. Our roots are very much in the PC development but focusing on one platform has allowed us to make the best possible game so in that respect we're very happy focusing on one platform. Right now, getting this out the door and done - OH: And then thinking about the moves after that... MM: Yeah. But I wouldn't - we don't have any plans for a PC version now. At least for me [gesturing at couch and television] this feels like a very good environment to play the game where you have the big screen and couch for something so cinematic and large. But that's just my personal preference. See that? it means they are going to release PC version after 360 version released. source This post has been edited by leonhang: Feb 14 2010, 07:46 AM |

I actually got this game during the launch at gamers hideout last weekend. Just because you can pirate it, doesn't mean you have to. As far as I am concerned, it's worth the money i paid for it.
It's actually pretty good. I am just sad that it's not on pc - while it already looks amazing with the 360's graphical limitations, it would really benefit from higher res textures. |

They better find a way to port it onto the PC somehow. |

Dear Remedy: I hate you
QUOTE Dear Remedy Entertainment, Source: IcronticThere is no easy way to say this, so I’ll just get right to it. I’m breaking up with you. I’m packing my bags, and never looking back. It’s over, we’re finished. You may want to know why, to understand what led me to this decision after so many years of adoration and fandom. I hope my words will help you find the peace that I am now pursuing. About a month ago I was punched in the gut while sitting at my PC. It is difficult to describe what I felt. It was as if millions of PC gamers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Remedy, you had made a decision, one that I will never forget; you pulled the plug on Alan Wake for the PC. My world had gone dark. You were once one of my favorite game developers, Remedy. Many PC gamers shared my sentiments—you championed the PC platform and practically made history when you introduced the Max Payne series. Sure, you were a relatively new game studio in early 2000 with a small crew of developers and artists, but you managed to deliver a brilliant new game franchise that shared no similarities with anything else out there. Everyone was happy, and life was filled with slow-motion frivolity. Do you remember those days? We would dance, hand in hand, until the sun went down and the lights went out. I introduced you to all of my friends, and they thought you were the greatest thing to ever happen to the PC. You had created a kingdom in spent bullet casings. Only you could improve on perfection. In 2003 you made Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. The game was wonderful—adorned by gorgeous graphics, ragdoll physics, and more noir than you could shake a Magnum revolver at. Max had grown uglier, with that terrible tie of his, but you, Remedy, you were as beautiful as ever. I was so satisfied with what we had. All of my console gaming friends were jealous, they knew the game was better on the PC. They would have given just about anything to have a mouse in hand and be me in those days. I couldn’t have been more excited when you announced Alan Wake, that brand new psychological action thriller with a gorgeous graphics engine. You had earned my full respect. I knew this title would be one of greatness. That was 2005 though, and life was very different. Today, the love and enthusiasm that I had for you, Remedy Entertainment, has been replaced by blackness and hatred. You have abandoned those that helped build your foundation. You stopped talking to me, Remedy. You didn’t tell me how Max Payne 3 was coming along. I began to worry about you, and my fears were only confirmed once you passed the Max Payne IP over to Rockstar Games so you could focus on Alan Wake. I understand this may be a mid-life crisis, and you just need to cut the fat and find out who you really are. I encourage any such soul-searching efforts. I shouldn’t have needed to be worried, either, as Rockstar Games has made a name for themselves with some very good titles in recent years. They say love means giving someone the chance to hurt you, but trusting they don’t. I began to think that my trust was misplaced the moment information on Max Payne 3 was released. Rockstar Games was taking the game in the wrong direction. Max had become fat and he was in Brazil fighting drug traffickers. This was wrong. It was all wrong. Things had begun to fall apart, and deep down inside, I knew that the end was coming faster than a buzz from a heavy dosage of Valkyr. The sun was setting with practiced bravado. Twilight crawled across the sky, laden with foreboding. I knew something was going on. I saw how you looked at the Xbox 360. I noticed how you talked to it, with that gleeful look in your eye, just like the one you showed me all those years ago. There was nothing I could do to stop it—you were his, and he was yours. When you announced that Alan Wake would be an Xbox 360 exclusive, it was the final knife in my heart. The whole thing was a joke, and I was duped. We were all duped. You drove the knife deeper into my heart. Only a few days after the announcement, that month’s issue of CGW magazine showed up on my doorstep. Like a dark messenger riding in on a cavalry of despair, there sat Alan Wake on the front cover. I took a breath and opened up the story. Right in the opening paragraph, it stated Alan Wake as being an Xbox 360 exclusive. The news broke in a print magazine. You made this decision long before you decided to tell me, Remedy. The mere thought of such an act disgusts me. It’s over, Remedy. I am finished with you. Now I’m trying my best to move forward and get over this. I suggest you do the same, Remedy. I’m not the type to change my mind, and outside of you buying back the rights to Max Payne 3 and launching Alan Wake on the PC, nothing you can do will bring life back to this cold, dead heart within me. Even if you moved all of your operations to some town in Indiana, like Richmond, and begged me to come work for you, I wouldn’t do it. You’ve already hurt me too much. I know we’ll see each other in Los Angeles in June. You’ll be showing everyone your stuff at E3, and I’ll be there on business doing my job. It will be awkward, and I promise not to make a scene. I’m sorry about this. I didn’t want for things to end this way, but you left me no choice. Don’t bother trying to find me if you need me, I’ll be grabbing drinks with my buddies, Valve and Crytek. Regretfully, Bobby Miller I would have bought Alan Wake too on PC. |

QUOTE(kianweic @ Jun 30 2010, 07:50 AM) I think we need to wait for a year for Microsoft's contract/license to expire for this game to have the opportunity to port to PC, if the developers feels like it...They (Alan Wake's developers) should learn from RE5's move to PC (after a year) which yields profitably for Capcom... For now, wishful thinking only.... This post has been edited by JoBigShow: Jul 1 2010, 03:00 AM |

Lol, super late... but better late than never I guess.
I wonder if they will implement the next-gen tech they showcased at the Intel conference years ago (one tornado running - dual-core processor, two tornadoes - quad-core processor). Having played the 360 version twice, I must say the PC will make it all more sweet, especially the lighting... Hopefully both DLCs will be in the PC version ready to go after the main story ends. |

its confirm in remedy's forum that the 2 dlcs will be in the retail disc. Although its a free dlc for X360 copies
retail price will be at $49.99 QUOTE Remedy Entertainment is proud to announce the PC release of Alan Wake. Coming in early 2012, the game will give PC gamers the Alan Wake experience they have been patiently waiting for. Remedy is a developer with deep roots in the PC space (Death Rally and Max Payne 1 and 2), so the game will have the high resolution polish that longtime fans will expect. still no word if is on steam or gfwl. The PC version of the game will also include The Signal and The Writer downloadable content. Alan Wake tells the story of a best-selling writer suffering from writer’s block. He goes on vacation to the small town of Bright Falls with his wife, Alice, to gain back his creative flow. Shortly upon arrival, Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare when his wife mysteriously goes missing. He keeps finding pages of a manuscript he apparently wrote, but can’t remember writing. The manuscript is coming true. An involving psychological action thriller, Alan Wake raises the bar in storytelling and creating a suspenseful cinematic experience. To get a sneak peak at Alan Wake for PC, please check out the first screenshot: http://www.sandboxstrat.com/Alan_Wake_PC_Screen.zip (2MB) Release window sound familiar? That’s because Alan Wake’s American Nightmare for Xbox Live Arcade will also be available in the first quarter of 2012! Of course it could also use GFWL like other games sold on Steam that use that crapretail price will be at $49.99 still no word if is on steam or gfwl. Anyway 50 USD is a little pricey for such an old game |

QUOTE(SpikeTwo @ Dec 16 2011, 09:18 AM) generally i think remedy intention is not trying to promote Alan wake. I think they are trying to promote their engine for indie developers to help design their games. Last i heard they are planning to incorporate their Construction kit.their engine could generate weather and its effects, day/night in a split second and light technique that doesnt consume too much resources. |

Alan Wake's American Nightmare adds multiplayer mode
QUOTE The upcoming Xbox Live Arcade game, Alan Wake's American Nightmare, will have more action than the original 2010 game, and will include a new co-op multiplayer mode. The mode is called "Fight 'til Dawn", and will basically be a Horde mode in which players cooperatively combat waves of dark creatures. According to Remedy vice president Aki Järvilehto, "One of the things about Alan Wake is that people loved the story, the setting and the theme but people wanted more in-your-face action. People wanted more variation, different types of enemies and different types of weapon." Alan Wake's American Nightmare was finally officially revealed at the Spike TV Videogame Awards last Saturday. Alan Wake alights on Steam in February, answers your FAQs now
![]() QUOTE Remedy Games is gearing up to launch Alan Wake on Steam this February with a hefty FAQ session on its forum. Steam's Alan Wake will not be available on Mac, won't use Games for Windows Live and won't have a demo. It will use Steamworks, support keyboard and Xbox 360 controller input, and will include The Signal and The Writer DLC packs with the game. Alan Wake on Steam can support stereoscopic 3D through NVISION 3D, although it is performance-intensive, Remedy warns. For normal (see: "unfancy") gameplay, the expected system requirements are fairly standard, as you can see -- no flashlight required - Source: Joystiq |

Nordic Games Signs Publishing Deal for Alan Wake PC
QUOTE Nordic Games today announced a publishing deal for the boxed PC version of Remedy’s upcoming Action Thriller Alan Wake. The Signal and The Writer DLC from the Xbox 360 version will be included as a bonus for the boxed PC release. Source: Strategy Informer"It goes without saying that we are very happy and proud to work together with some of the greatest talents and artists of the games industry", commented Lars Wingefors, CEO of Nordic Games. "We are really looking forward to the PC version of Alan Wake, especially as we are talking about a fantastic PC adaptation thereof, rather than a mere porting of the code. We will talk about this in more detail in the upcoming weeks". "We're very excited that we have the opportunity to bring the PC version of Alan Wake to retail and the fans out there." said Matias Myllyrinne, CEO of Remedy Entertainment. "Working closely with Nordic Games we can deliver an amazing experience to PC gamers." The PC version of Alan Wake doesn't have a release date yet, but the firm did tell us that this would be revealed shortly. |

QUOTE Remedy revealed today the release date of the highly anticipated PC port of Alan Wake. PC gamers who uses Steam will be able to purchase the game on February 16. Other digital retailers will follow afterwards but for the boxed version, it’s coming. We just don’t know when. Alan Wake for the PC will retail for $29.99 and will include the game and the DLCs. There will also be a Limited Collector’s Edition that will retail for $34.99. Now, what’s so special about the PC version of Alan Wake you ask? Here are the enhancements that Remedy released: – Experience Alan Wake’s Pacific Northwest in higher resolutions and higher fidelity than ever before. – Refined and fully configurable mouse and keyboard support (or if you prefer to play with the Microsoft gamepad connected to your PC, you can do that too!) – A wide selection of customizable graphics settings and support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios. – Multithreaded engine that takes advantage of quad core CPUs. – Additional options our fans have sought after, such as field of view adjustment as well as “hide HUD”. – Works with AMD Eyefinity 3D 3-screen mode. – Works with NVIDIA NVISION2 Stereoscopic 3D. Remedy will "certainly continue" with Alan Wake, 'things in motion'
QUOTE Alan Wake has more adventures to come as Remedy Entertainment, creator of Max Payne, has said there's already motion on the next. Focusing on PC right now. Remedy are "crowd pleasers," said CEO Matias Myllyrinne. Smaller digital chunks of game let them react to "people's desires and wishes" faster. It's "too early to talk" about the next step. PC gamers are set to receive Alan Wake after a good long no-show as it debuted on Xbox 360. Now XBLA is due Alan Wake's American Nightmare, a digital add-on exploring more horror. "We're crowd pleasers, we'll do what the audience wants, 'cause usually that's the good business move as well," said Remedy boss Matias Myllyrinne. Bringing Alan Wake to PC was certainly a move in that direction. What's next for Alan Wake? "Hopefully, we'll have one or two surprises." "I don't know, I'm loving the digital side and we'll see how that evolves, but just being able to give people quick access to bite-size chunks of gaming is maybe more fun than working for years and years - taking the phone offline and closing the shutters - at least, this way, you're able to react much more quickly to people's desires and wishes." "We'll certainly continue with Wake. Right now we're focusing on getting the PC out next week, then getting American Nightmare out. And it's too early to talk about what our next move is, but we've obviously put things into motion." Alan Wake releases on PC February 16th via Steam, March 2nd via retail. Alan Wake's American Nightmare releases on Xbox 360 February 22nd as part of the Xbox LIVE House Party promotion. Source: Strategy Informer |

I bought it. Then Steam trolled me by stating that the game was 178MB. I thought I was back in 1994. Steam servers busy... and then it became 7GB. Damn you Gabe.

Even in the first episode, I ran out of ammo right near the beginning of the game. So yeah, misses can be costly. A lot of emphasis on dodging. |

I would say it is more thriller than horror.... as in survival horror. Which is why it is more about the mystery rather than the scares.

Finish the game through the story first before judging why it isn't scary or why it's different.
Alan Wake was never a horror game. It's more in the lines of Clock Tower. |

the game intro already explains what it is about:
"Stephen King once wrote, ‘Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations; they’re antithetical to the poetry of fear’." |

I'm not making excuses for a console launched in 2005 with 512MB ram clocked at 700MHZ but when you're playing I have to say that you don't really notice the textures. In any case, i think the console version holds up pretty well in the comparison.

I am playing the Alan Wake PC game... and damn its been sometime since some game really give me the creeps.... and the way the story unfolded through those pages on manuscript are just good.
Anyway.... my setting are all LOW.... becoz my Alienware M11x R1 cannot taken it high..... or medium only on all LOW.... but game still looks good. |

Just have to comment controls using WASD is weird... especially the character movement makes it feel so... mannequin like. Move left then right, it's like car alignment lari.

I like Collector's Edition for the DLC levels. Even tho it doesn't really give the story an ending.
But the e-book they had is...well...nothing exciting. |

The CE is well worth it. I got almost the same thing for XBox360 ver. The 144 pages "Alan Wake Files" is worth to read, Some kind of novel + character in-depth info and its on hard cover too~
CE go for retail Standard.... actually retail also same, its steam powered game, In the end it will still install on your steam account. |

I took bout 10 hours as well. Along with the DLCs.
If you're achievement whore like me, you might spend more time trying to find all the manuscripts or coffee flasks and such. xD I think the retail CE is way better than Steam's...I would very much prefer a "Making of" content rather than a 144-page PDF which is so-so. |

Hmm, since almost everyone said the retail CE is better, is it worth buying a copy of retail CE for approximately RM120?

With the same tight pacing and plot that has made Alan Wake one of the best action horror games ever made, American Nightmare delivers on cinematic horror on a whole new level. Meanwhile, if action gaming is more your thing, the survival mode where you must stay alive, using the innovative Fight with Light mechanic, throughout the long and lonely night. Alan Wake's American Nightmare will be released on the 22nd of May. Preorder before then and save 10%--or save 25% if you own Alan Wake or purchase it along with American Nightmare! Added on May 9, 2012, 8:54 amPart survival horror, part detective novel, part action, and part adventure--a must-have for fans of exciting thrillers and sublime story-telling. QUOTE Alan Wake, the psychological action thriller, is available now on GOG.com--and it’s on sale for 50% off for a week! That’s only $14.99 for the game and both DLCs until Tuesday, May 15th at 06.59 AM EDT. From Remedy, developers of classic Death Rally and Max Payne 1 & 2, comes a third-person shooter described by its creators as combination of "the mind of a psychological thriller,” and "the body of a cinematic action game.” The player controls Alan Wake, author of popular detective fiction, who needs to find his wife in a perfect and fictional--yet nightmarish and dreadfully real--town of Bright Falls. The story is told in episodes in style similar to a mystery TV series, with each episode having its own plot but revealing new piece of the main puzzle as well. The story is filled with endless twists and cliffhangers, there are recap sequences at the beginning of a new episode, closing credits, and a lot of cinematic sequences--all of these combine to create a fantastic “film noir” atmosphere, unique to the world of PC horror games. Fans of The Twilight Zone, Twin Peaks, and Stephen King will find numerous references and inspirations while solving the mystery behind supernatural horrors that infest Bright Falls. Mr. Wake will walk the streets, find clues, and talk to people during the day; he will fight various enemies during the night. Light is the main weapon in Alan’s fight against the town’s inhabitants who have been possessed by a darkness that transforms them into axe wielding murderers. Enemies are initially impervious to attack, and can only be harmed when exposed to light, coming from your flashlight, flare guns, flares, and environmental sources. Even if you’re not afraid of the dark, the game will keep you on your toes, and once the darkness creeps in you will not want to leave your safely lit havens. Gripping suspense, intense action, great storytelling, flawless design--yes, Alan Wake is a perfect game. Time magazine named it the best video game of the year, IGN awarded Alan Wake “Best Horror Game”, it has also received numerous nominations for “Best Narrative”, “Best Writing/Story”, and “Best Character” (for Alan Wake). Grab Alan Wake for the next seven days for only $14.99--and get with the manual, wallpaper, and a number of videos and extra goodies (stay tuned for more extras soon) all for one great price! Expect other great games from Remedy coming in the very near future! http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/alan_wake $15 with all the CE extras, minus the soundtrack. Sounds like good deal. QUOTE Alan Wake 2 Was a Thing, Here’s Some Prototype Footage Before working on Quantum Break, Alan Wake 2 was in very early development at developer Remedy Games. Polygon and Remedy Games have released a new video today which showcases early prototype footage from Alan Wake 2.
