I think what we need to clarify here is that although it says that the iPhone can be used with any wireless carrier, but is it applicable only to carriers in HK or worldwide? It might not be carrier locked but it could be country locked.

I've been out of sync with the latest updates for quite some time so please excuse me if the above sentence technically wrong.
