BGs are a zerg if there's noobs vs noobs. I'm a proponent for rated BGs or at least for Blizz to promote Premades vs Premades more and/or keeping Arenas entirely seperate.
Some of my fondest WSG games are back in my Warlord grind, before the cross-server BGs. There was us, the poor Horde with PvP blues/epics vs BWL/AQ40 Alliance premades. Some of those games lasted up to two hours. Or those 35minute AB games because both sides had capped 2 nodes each and there's a massive fight at the uncapped BS for the entire duration. The PvE people would break out their flasks, the PvP guys would launch their entire engineering arsenal... Ahh, epic...
I admire the "twitchness" of high end Arena but that is something I probably will not acquire, much like competitive FPS games. In the wide open spaces of BGs I excelled and gained a reputation as a great healer/support who would annoy the hell out of Alliance (wewt Server Legend), and when I was specced DPS I wasn't one of those retards farming HK in the middle of nowhere. If they left me alone, I could support my team; if they focused on me, great, cause that means they are leaving the node or flag carrier alone.
Can't really do that in Arena, when the basic strategy is "Focus on that guy first". And as a Shaman and/or Hunter, I find myself being "that guy" more often than I like.
its still kinda a zerg even in premades (before my hwl grind, ive played amongst the best pvp'ers known on our server [well, no xbg anyways back then] as i was in the high end scene with the server's #1/#2 guild, i did mention i was a raider before focusing pvp'ing right? unlike the basic strat of focusing x guy in arenas, you focus the flag, in wsg it is the carrier, in AB it would be the clusterf*** known as the flag where you just keep killin until it clears (or cc'ing, to an extent, while capping) the basic principal was the same, however it always resolved around the flag, which most people critic that it wasnt "true pvp" as flag != humans/player. it turned into a "PVF" instead aka player versus flag. It was then arenas were born, to eliminate the flag element.
even in arenas, you dont really need to be at the "high end" to enjoy it. of course, initially starting out you'd be losing more often than not having sub par gear but as time passes once ur like 4 piece brutal and all, it shouldnt be that bad. just like how x faction would always lose in x bg, something similiar. the whole "reputation" thingy pretty much faded the moment xbg hit. so thats pretty much out of the window. oh how i missed the day where my HWL group reigned complete dominance over the server and even for a while after XBG (as the majority of us rank14's still cant drop the pvp'ing frenzy
you could think of it this way, if they focus you, your teammates should be free to kill them. same concept no?
watch some nihilum cherez videos, thats one hunter that makes you REGRET for focusing him lol.
or GC, one of those arena shaman legends. (although having a shady history of ninja'ing an entire guild bank LOL, but hey, thats nothing to do with his skills with arenas no?
