Yep, still can navigate through Maps just not in 3D navigation and no auto-re-routing system.
Have to view the maps in big picture.

Yes, still need telco to download the Maps in real-time.
However there are apps help to cache the maps into SDcard. Can't recall their name sorry!

there's Android base GPS software already available...exactly same like Garmin or MapKing point to point direction    in fact i'm using it now 
marvellous, GPS lockdown very fast indeed.....more faster compared to WinMo based devices.
Offline google maps u wont be able access to map.....
U have to get connectivity to access google maps for navigation either GPS,WiFi or data line.

Installed any new apps recently??

Try to remove the status2 or any newly installed apps that related to network. Too much widgets on the screen will also hog your system >:/

there r alot of thing u can do after rooted....
very responsive overall compared to stock rom...i must said....
such as wifi tethering,overclock proc,install software to make it louder on loud speaker....
nicer interface as well... 

I guess if you want admin/owner privilege of the phone, you root the phone. Then after you root, you can do anything to your phone, including rm -rf /

the steps to root is really easy. i root my G1 after 4 days after i get my phone.
"rm -rf /" basically mean force delete entire folder. it's linux command
i mod my phone to CyanogenMod. not much different. mainly what i can see is interface enhancement such as:
- 5 desktop screen. previously 3
- restart option when long press power button
- can overclock after root
- remove ads from application using "Adfree" apps
- better camera function in default camera software

mine is 4GB SDHC Sandisk....
thinking wana get a 16GB micro card....but wasn't sure whether does it supported anot..

erm wanna ask, why u guys dont want to root?

I am currently looking at either getting a used 5800 or HTC Dream. Haven't really seen any comparison between the 2 phones, so I would appreciate any advice. BTW I am looking for a phone primarily for watching movies, listening to music and browsing the web (i am also into modding stuff). I like the 5800, but the exterior is a real turn off (looks like a cheap china toy ) and I don't really like the responsiveness of the touchscreen (resistive instead of capacitive) and Symbian is not the most finger friendly OS. But the dedicated music controller, 3.5mm jack, headset which allows you to skip and control volume (not sure if HTC Dream has an aftermarket headset which does that) is a plus point for the 5800. And there seems to be more accessories for the 5800 (since more people are using it)

Guys, just got my G1 a month ago and I was thinking where can I get accessories for this phone ?

I'm looking for a good screen protector too. Any recommendation ?
