well u see, microsoft is retiring windows xp
so why dun u bear with it first, continue with windows vista since microsoft will come up with new updates to solve the problems that vista is having now
now another advantage is that, the world is moving on... sooner or later, all s/w or games will need vista platform to work perfectly on..
so there is no point using windows xp and in the end, u`ll have to switch to vista again next time

just my opinion smile.gif

Better goes for Vista, as kidforever stated. Sooner or later, Vista will be use largely, and XP will become a minority only.

I believe Vista will has a very short life like Win2K (hear about it?).

Win2k is in the market for 1-2 years.
It it around during the transaction from Win98 to Win NT (Win XP).

TS, if your computer is consisting of new hardwares, use Windows Vista. It's stable enough with release of Service Pack 1. What's more, the next Windows (Vienna, Windows 7 or whatever teh geek calling it), will be based on Windows Vista for the hardware configuration. If you got lesser hardware specification, then get Windows XP will suffice for now. But as others saying, Windows XP has been retired, and sooner or later, you'll still upgrading to newer Windows, Vista or newer one...

One advice though, try Windows Vista. Don't listen to others that says Vista sucks etc. You'll never know until you've tried.

I dunno what's everyones deal with Vista is...I've been using vista for quite some time now and rarely encounter problems. Most of the time its fixed by the updates released by Microsoft themselves.

Changed from XP to Vista and never looked back since, really enjoyed it. Vista is recommended wink.gif

Dude, most people probably didn't know about Windows 2000 because it's not an OS for consumer, but for large corporations hosting servers, mail servers etc. Windows XP was released due to the highly instability of Windows 98 and Windows Me (worser) and was built on Windows 2000 kernel. Windows 2000 has been around for at least 2 and 1/2 years before Windows 2003 take over.

Go for Vista is not shit as u think. Auto defrag when pc idle, better ram management, got nice looking, DirectX 10, easy to configure, more secure than xp, sidebar, keyboard key application access, can make shutdown shortcut on your desktop, no driver difficulty, can use plug and play most printer scanner without additional driver, automatic recover for startup fail and many more (too many).

Does xp have?

Strange, why so many ppl says Vista is unstable? I've been using original Vista ultimate x64 and every program I've installed works just fine.

XP has retired. It's time to move on to Vista dude!! I like XP but I love Vista.

If you are planning to get windows today, go get vista..

after you update it with SP1, i can say my vista is doing great, no stability probs so far..yes, there has been some issues of stability in the past for vista OS, but many of them has been corrected with SP1..why choose vista over xp?for me the main reason is DX10..many new features in vista are also great..just explore it yourself nod.gif nod.gif

but buy original..ive used both pirated and original, and i can say the pirated one can potentially give you headaches..buy original yaa icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

List it down. Honestly, the "some" are so rare and old, they are not even supposed to be used anymore.

I hate it when people say "wait for Vienna" or "Wait for Windows 7" when they have no idea when it's going to be out, or even WHAT or HOW the OS was built.
For one, it's based 100% on the Vista core, and the only thing you would see is
- Change of UI
- Intergrated sidebar on desktop
- WinFS
- DX11
So basically waiting for a windows that would take like another 2~3 years down the road (Honestly with the rate of the build coming out, I'd say it would take another 4 years to finish) when it would perform the same with Vista, which basically is a lot better than XP right now, sounds kinda stupid.

And TS, just get Vista. Security wise, and ease of use wise, it's good. Memory management is miles better than XP, and you are future proofed.

you said it yourself. XP is waaaay too old for current hardwares. If you want faster OS, why don't you use Windows 98? It got loads of "unofficial" security fixes, updates etc.

It's not soon, XP is out of production already.

vista is great in a sense that when it starts up there is no "dead period" like XP whereby the first few seconds after start up, every program or action you do or click on cannot open immediately.

You are wrong. It's just people that have nothing to do and bash Vista making up stories as they go along. believe me, when Vienna is released, the very same people would also do the same thing to it. Honestly, they are not pleased untill everyone uses linux.

well first of all win2k has been around for far more the 1-2 years... and it wasn't made for corporations and such, i still use it on some older computers and it beats the stability out of xp and vista together. ask any it person and they'll say it's true. secondly microsoft said they're retiring support for xp for companies, for personal use people will still have the same benefits as 'till now. but to answer the question, i would wait for windows 7, maybe the problems vista has will be sorted out, and because it will be something new, every software company will upgrade their products to fit the new OS

Go for Windows Vista since Windows XP is gonna get replaced sooner or later.
Its more stable too, but your computer must be good to operate smoothly.
So, it really depends on your computer's spec.

On the other hand, I heard they are not going to sell Windows XP next year.
Is it true?

something new? don't you think Vista is something new when it comes out? even with Vista, software devs already upgraded their software to support Vista. What makes you think that when Windows 7 is out, it won't have problems? maybe the problems will be worser than Vista, who knows? Windows 7 is built using Vista cores if that matters...

actually vista has a lof of flaws..............................
but it has improved a lot since sp1, although still not as reliable wit good old xp.
ie, slow in opening folder wit a lot of files, more often (compared 2 xp) program not responding especially wen copying file.
note: vista user, dun use cut paste as it will expose 2 greater risk of lost of data.

no doubt, u'll encounter s/w incompatibility if u use vista.

so ts, really depends on ur usage.
if u use ur pc as workstation, running developers s/w, stick wit xp.

untill now, i still found dat d only reason 2 upgrade 2 vista is gamer who wants DX10.

If you do a benchmark WinXP against Vista, XP will beat Vista on anything. The only thing Vista got that's better than XP it's the GUI (aero) which so soothing to your eyes.

Once Windows 7 is out, Vista is going for a premature death like WinME. Vista is a bloatware compare to XP.

Vista is a failure cos it's can't get old or semi-old PC's to convert to it. All old PC's still stick with XP.

Only new PC's is suitable to run Vista but XP run much more faster on newer PC's. I think this is a fact everyone know.

Why don't you do benchmark Win98SE against WinXP, who will yield better score?

Vista isn't bloatware, it just want to be complete so you won't need CD/DVD whenever you put in something. Do you ever stumbled upon a software called vLite? unbloat your Vista, your way... since Windows 7 is still built on VISTA CORE, why would make you think Vista will end with premature death?

I have quite number of supposedly OLD PCs that I have SUCCESSFULLY convert to Vista. I have Pentium III PC 800MHz, 512mb RAM, 128mb ATI 9200 running Vista with full aero support, smoothly over the year (among other things), so STFU! doh.gif

If that's the fact, it's also a fact that new PC run Windows 98 SE faster than Windows XP, why won't you run Windows 98 SE instead? THAT's the fact everyone know.

The conclusion is, you're just one of teh Vista hater that didn't dare to accept new technologies and failing behind by using WinXP. And I'm sure you've read lots of teh articles on teh internet about baaaaad Vista... *sigh* sweat.gif shakehead.gif

that's natural, before WinVista was available, lots of developer tools are developed for Win98. When WinXP is bloated with security holes and bugs where Microsoft didn't want to patch it up, that's when you're going to realize, developer tools will shift it focus to Vista...

come on, Vista is only around for like, 2 years? Do you happen to remember when WinXP was available at the end of 2001? It was bloated, resource-hogging, non-compatible, etc etc. The same thing is happening again with Vista. It just the same thing all over again.

Since in your sig you're using pirated XP, why don't continue the tradition with Vista?

yup, it took sum time 4 users 2 actually switch 2 xp last time.
but dis time, vista & windows 7 rease a bit 2 close 2 each other. i think most people will just wait 4 windows 7 & might skip vista.

i still think vista is not worth it as main OS. may b a secondary OS 2 play around.
vista is like a small kid dat still hav a lot 2 grow.

Why would skip Vista and use 7? Certainly 7 will use more resources by having those new features, right? Vista is worth using as a main OS, it got more security, reliability and the compatibility list is still counting, and no, Vista is not a small kid, it's an adult, just waiting for everyone to be familiar with it.

If you're getting a new OS just get Vista. What for go get an old OS. Slowly Vista will become better and better, just be patient.
