Yes hamster have short lifespan about 2-3 years. But what you are doing are shortening their lifespan even more!

Why don't you let them live a healthy 2-3 years instead letting them live sickly from the food you fed them with. For how long will they live? 1 year or less?

If you just leave the prestige or harry hamster in the tank, they will eat it when their favorites are gone. This is not forcing them but let them learn there is food for them.

How do you expect them to have a balance diet from just cauliflower, corn, broccoli and the human food?

What you are doing is irresponsible as a pet owner shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif

agreed. Its like you giving your children coke, fast food, junk food, cheap milk etc their whole life. Would you do that?

doh.gif of coz the main food or main meal will be vege for them.. i place it 24 hours...
human food is just a extra snack for them... 1 or 2 time a week..
i do not put human food in the cage, it make the cage dirty. i just bring them out and eat if they wants..  tongue.gif

ok lo...if like that then maybe can lo tongue.gif

vanssny: you can have your own opinion, but pls keep them to yourself because you might negatively influence other people in this thread who read what you wrote then feed their hamster rubbish then come crying "why suddenly my hamster died? I tot they got a life span of 2-3 years"

OMG...My baby hamster got bitten by its dad for no reason. The baby walking around then groom itself, out of sudden the father walk near then bite. Now already separate the babies + mother from the father. My baby hamster only 3~4weeks old and 2 died out of 4. Sad. The ear there can see blood stain. Haiz, any idea wad should i do? Apple dettol cream or wad?
I scare the baby will get infection.

I think you meant apply...dettol cream, not apple dettol cream. My colleague just like you, because it rhymes...you think the meaning is the same sweat.gif

I just read somewhere that male and female hamsters need to be separated after the female giving birth, to prevent either one from eating or killing the babies. You're lucky you manage to save 2 of them, any later and all probably gone ady.

I really don't know if my hamster is taking care of its babies...they're all over the place. And she sometimes digs on their nest or where they are...

I can also hear the babies making noise when the mother picks them up with her mouth...maybe her teeth are hitting them? No blood so far though...

yup, checked and double checked..they're gone. Can't imagine this after 5 days...but now that I look at it closer, those two that are gone are smaller than these 3. Like not growing well. Maybe they really didn't survive?

@Aeon: It depends on the mum. If she was stressed out for some reason she can start eating her kids. Just leave her alone with her kids. You really can't save them if she won't care for them.

maybe I can put the hamsters with another female hamster of mine? This one is really really tame, won't bite...shy shy too. Sometimes she'll climb my hand on her own when she wants to play.

my robos just gave birth to 3 babies.... i'm so 'gan jeong'
wat shud i do? the male n female seems don't have any conflict, shud i still take it out?

did the mother know how to feed her babies? the mother just 1st time gif birth

I suggest you separate the male and female hamsters...of coz the baby hamsters go with the female for milk. Otherwise the male hamster may kill the baby hamsters...or stress the female enough to kill em. I heard and kena before...
