i think the iPhone on an auto mode if you have enabled Wi-Fi the iPhone will access the internet through that, and then if you are not in a Wi-Fi zone it falls on the 3G/EDGE/GPRS.

Just get boss prefs and disable edge la..
Because even though you're not using the iphone will automatically use EDGE/GPRS for checking mail or new app updates..

thenemeanlion,

I had the same problem with my son's iphone. I forgot to use bosspref and he chalk about 75MB of download. The iphone would switch between the edge and the wifi depending on the quality of the signal. U can check out your data useage at the "settings", "General" and "Usage" then look at the Cellular Network Data and you would find that you indeed or rather you iphone is using the bandwidth. The iphone is design as a internet phone.

I would suggest that you do the following, try to download "Bosspref" as recommended and disable the Edge network. Also to be sure go to the "Settings" "General" "Cellular Data Network" you will find that it is blank and the iphone is smart enough to figure how to login. Key in a bunch of rubbish and that way your iphone would never be able to login to the Maxis Cellular network and you won't be bill. If you depend of Bosspref and the then someone itchy finger turn it on again the susah leh.

My son chalk about RM250/= of usage for 10 days sad.gif because I forgot to turn it off.

Yes, just key in wrong settings such as sajlkjfalflskdjflak in Settings>General>Network>Edge or Settings>General>Cellular Data Network. Also, install Bosspref and disable Edge from it. Remember, Edge will automatically turn on and start sucking ur money when home wifi gets dc or connection lost. It sucked my RM45 within 20mins of using Maps application. Entering wrong settings will only block Edge from connecting and you will still be able to use other GPRS related services on your iphone.

Good Luck!!

Some confusing here.

Will I be charged if i get the message "Could not activate cellular data network: You are not subscribed to a cellular data service" ? with "E" icon on the status bar.

And the Cellular Data Usage shown both 0 byte in Sent & Receive.

Or i'll still be charged with GPRS?

seems like the iPhone is always forcing itself to go online whenever there are possible signals available may it be GPRS, EDGE or WiFi.
Just wondering if it does show any different icons in the iPhone when it's downloading via GPRS, EDGE or WiFi.
