Are you guys absolutely positive that most of our cars OEM bumper are made of ABS?
I wouldn't think so, though. AFAIK, most of our OEM bumper are made of PP, Polypropylene. I'm sure of this because mine is made of PP. And a correction for Modulo kit for Honda, they are all made of PP, not el-cheapo ABS. I'm not sure bout Mugen and others though. This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Sep 20 2008, 03:32 PM |

QUOTE(soyaben86 @ Sep 24 2008, 03:10 PM) ur cracks meaning under the hot sun for a long time, it will just crack or what?? i noob at this kind of stuff. but i wanna do some custom fendar to make my car more light. Well it could crack if the sun is too hot I guess? I'm not very sure about heat resisting of fiberglass. But my crack means it can't withstand impacts. Like if you are washing your car, even if you pushed it too hard accidentally, it might crack lol. Aluminum is a better choice but I have no idea where can we get it done. QUOTE(moon* @ Sep 24 2008, 03:13 PM) Yeap, fiberglass is actually the formal name. This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Sep 24 2008, 03:15 PM |

QUOTE(soyaben86 @ Sep 24 2008, 03:14 PM) Depends on you -.-You said you want light weight, go for fiberglass then, as its very thin so it beats PU or alu without doubt. Get fiberglass also not bad lah Buy some carbon fiber sticker and you save the money for painting QUOTE(soyaben86 @ Sep 24 2008, 03:17 PM) If i not mistaken, i heard that Fiber can mix with PU right?? So it will be hard a bit yet a bit more impact resistant huh?? Any idea how much will it cost to make a fender using aluminum also where to find those ppl to make it huh?? Never heard of that..You might want to try your luck at those custom bodykit shop? This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Sep 24 2008, 03:19 PM |

QUOTE(V12Kompressor @ Sep 24 2008, 03:16 PM) Cracked because of the heat of the sun AND the engine. If your bodykit is white, it will look damn ugly because it will turn yellowish and when see from near, those "yellow veins" can be seen easily. At this stage, the bodykit will become like kueh-ka-pek liao. Not to mention fiberglass is carcinogenic. Indeed. If you're not changing bodykits every single month, I suggest you take other alternatives suggested by others such as aluminium and if you can afford it: Carbon fiber. But fender..I doubt the engine heat will be able to crack it..Well, gotta look what car is that though, because not all car fender is very near to engine, for example Civic FD2.. the Honda racing team I've worked for in sepang, their FD2R's fender is made of fiber -__- QUOTE(soyaben86 @ Sep 24 2008, 03:21 PM) Not from sunway area..so can't help you with this. This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Sep 24 2008, 03:23 PM |

QUOTE(soyaben86 @ Sep 24 2008, 03:25 PM) Actually none lolI have never really done any fiberglass to my car so I don't really know, and to be frank I'm kinda new with cars. If you are looking for fiberglass custom job, any fiberglass fabricator should be fine as it's really easy to fabricate it. |

QUOTE(soyaben86 @ Sep 24 2008, 03:42 PM) dunno wat is carcinogenic means ma..so if i wanna make a fiberglass fender, i got to take out my current fender to let them do the carcinogenic thingy?? what if i wan to extend the fender out a little bit?? wider fender.. I think it should be fine, cause AFAIK, fiberglass can be molded into any shape. But in any case, I suggest you to ask at the shop. You can get a precise answer from them. QUOTE(soyaben86 @ Sep 24 2008, 03:50 PM) who AFAIK?? i saw this everywhere.. AFAIK = As Far As I KnowI don't really like to ask shop question..cause 1st, they are busy..2nd they only do what you ask them to do but if there is any pro or cons, they won't tell you..3rd if i ask already, but the price they charge me very expensive, it's kind of wasting their time on me only.. So better ask ppl over here..better lor.. Well the asking part I'm talkin about is how you want your fender be molded. (You said you want it wider) |

PP = Polypropylene which I mentioned a lot of times at the front pages for goodness sake =.=
And NO, PU+FIBER doesn't give you PP. |
