lol I might sound like a geek. But I've watched all the Stargate shows.

Starting with the 1994 Stargate Movie.
Then the Stargate SG-1 from Season 1 through till 10.
And also Stargate Atlantis Seasons 1 till 5 (on going).
Two movies this year are quite alright as well Stargate: Continuum and Stargate: The Ark of Truth.

There's a new Stargate in the pipelines as well. But that's not due until next fall.

I only watched the movie. The movie was superb. I like Roland Emmerich's movies.

Kurt Russell and James Spader were relaly good in the movie.

I don't know why the critics rated the show badly.

its official. Season 5 will be Stargate Atlantis' concluding season. The plot will be carried forward the SG-1 style. Multiple made for TV movies.

Replacing Stargate Atlantis will be Stargate Universe - the cast are younger/rawer and the actor/actress' physical appearances will be exploited shamelessly blush.gif blush.gif

the new Stargate Serie is designed to attract more and younger Stargate fans wink.gif

Characters are confirmed - casting not done yet brows.gif brows.gif

Okay, these are the adjectives used in the descriptions of the characters laugh.gif

handsome
Beautiful
Stunning and sexy
Every teenage girl's fantasy
Big, strong

and a geek tongue.gif

Meet the Stargate Universe team!

http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/09/meet...ersei_tea.shtml

Casting calls have gone out for the third series' main characters, and today the short character break-downs arrived at GateWorld.

Note that while this information doesn't come from our usual source of casting sides, it does come from a source with a proven track record. But until we have more solid confirmation, it should be considered rumor.

As anticipated, the team is led by an older veteran officer, Colonel Everett Young. Young is described as "like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time." The show's producers are looking to cast an established, "name" actor in this role.

The rest of the cast of characters is made up of young men and women, mostly in their early to mid twenties. (Keep in mind that when Stargate SG-1 began in 1997, Michael Shanks was also in his twenties.)

Also, remember that these character names and details are subject to change as the roles are cast. (Did you not ever meet Dr. Benjamin Ingram on Stargate Atlantis? That's because he was changed to Rodney McKay when David Hewlett auditioned.)

Stargate Universe will begin shooting February 4 for a summer 2009 premiere on the SCI FI Channel. Learn more about the new series in GateWorld's Stargate Universe Launch Center, and also visit our friends at SpoilerTV for more on the show!

Colonel Everett Young

40's handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he's temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY. SERIES REGULAR;

Tamara Jon

20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn't afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do. SERIES REGULAR;

Chloe Carpenter

20ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father's footsteps but for now she's a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father's tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character. SERIES REGULAR;

Eli Hitchcock

20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon's character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in sptv050769. SERIES REGULAR;

Lt. Jared Nash

20-25. Junior S.G.C. team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl's fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he's ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation. SERIES REGULAR;

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak

20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don't want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His past is a mystery but it's clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he'd kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana's character "Hoot" in Blackhawk Down. SERIES REGULAR.

I'm a fan of Stargate... watch and downloaded both the series and movies.
It's amazing how this story started with Pyramid and Goa'uld... and later develop it to others races like Asgard & Tok'ra then finally Ori and ancient... same thing goes to Atlantis.
Damn... miss O'neil and the gang so much

Quite impress how SG1 command able to hide this off world operation from the world until the end of season 10.
My SG1 favorite season ending shall be the finale from season 7 where O'neil fire up the ancient defense weapon in Antarctica and launched those Droid defeating Anubis... a great victory from human race.

Always like those story related to time travel, alternate reality & parallel universe from Stargate.

I think the reason Stargate Atlantis failed was because of terrible plastic casts.

Rodney macKay - They gave too much attention to this guy really. Sometimes you got the feeling he is the protagonist (main actor) in the series. For someone who is a genius and lacks combat skills, it's ridiculous to have him on dangerous field trip across the galaxy....it does not make much sense to have him around all the time. I really dislike him very much.

Elizabeth Weir - A plastic woman suffering from anorexia nervosa. Gaunt with horrible acting. It took them 3 seasons to realize this and get rid of her.

Teyla - One of the better talented actress but has been relegated to a submissive role. She got herself pregnant in the show - they basically killed that character by doing that

John Sheppard - The only reason he is in the show is for eye-candy purpose but beyond that, nothing spectacular can be said about his acting. Too little time is being given for his character development

I stopped watching stargate Atlantis after season 2 because the story sucked too much

yup, the writers ran out of ideas for atlantis. cant argue with that. they even recycled some SG1 episode for atlantis. pathetic, really.

Agree that Atlantis is not so impressive compared SG1... i think that's the reason they tried to revive the show by bringing back some special guest from SG1 into Atlantis.
The latest episode from Atlantis, they bring back Dr. Daniel Jackson to search for a secret lab in Atlantis.

Even though Atlantis was a failure like soul2soul claimed, I still gonna followed this series coz i'm those fan that gonna finish what i've started... besides, there's not many sci-fi shows related to outer space available nowadays.

Some of you may be new. Some not so new.

Whichever the case, here's some friendly advice. This is NOT the place to talk about piracy related activities. Please stick to Stargate discussion and not anything else.

Anyways, the show just isn't the same without Richard Dean Anderson. Suppose it's a good thing that they're trying to breath new life into the Stargate universe with a reboot.

I've been an avid fan of Stargate since Form 1, then TV3 just ended the series and i have to search high and low for the complete series, btw, season 10 of sg-1 ending is kinda of ermm, 'not puas', it's kind of sad to watch The Asgard died and i missed Colonel Jack O'Neil in action biggrin.gif , luckily they finished the Ori arc with the following movie, too bad no more System Lord as the main villain, and i missed Aphophis cry.gif

Re-start watching from S1 again for like the 4th time. Stargate SG-1 is the first TV show I went fanatical over -- in just watching la.

Seasons 1 - 5 definitely the best. When Dr Jackson came back again it was a little off. Then RDA left and it was worse especially in the final few seasons until the end.

Yeah I liked Jonas and then they ripped him out like that because Daniel Jackson wants to come back. And when Jackson come back he's like superhero Jackson at that .. he solves everything .. military/fighting or scholarly stuff .. so irritating.

Yeah really sad about Don S. Davis. I just watched Uninvited .. he was in it along with some Stargate SG-1 extras/recurring guys like the sherrif was a doctor in SG1. They must have shot in Canada lol.

Hey they never did show the Furlings did they? Lots of build up about that .. and in the end nothing.

I can't wait for the brand new Stargate series which is Stargate Universe, hopefully it will be great continuation from Sg-1 and Atlantis biggrin.gif

yeah, they should have make Jonas a recurring character and phased him out slowly instead.

the furlings never show up before except some parody shots for the worm hole extreme show laugh.gif
and they never explore the nox enough..

i read that Stargate Universe, although in the same theme, are totally independent of SGA and SG1... they are kinda like Star Trek's Voyager or sumptin..

as for SGA's conclusion, we'll just wait for the movie to come out. SG1 and SGA has been discontiued, no more new seasons.. too bad. we'll hope Sanctuary will return next season

Errr, The Hammond have no weapons on board? With the current Human + Asgard technology, The Hammond could easily pummel the 3 Goa'uld Motherships till kingdom come doh.gif

Whose in control of the Goa'uld now? And how do they know about the secret base Icarus? Afterall, it's a nice show though~ biggrin.gif

yeah... the hammond is a daedalus class ship so it should be equip with asgard shield, plasma beam, teleportation, nukes, railgun and some missile, more than enough to take out those outdated junk hatak tongue.gif

the goa'uld kena tapau liao during season 7 finale.. now no more goa'uld, those still using the hatak are the lucian alliance and the jaafar.

cant wait to watch SGU, hope its as good as SG1 and SGA biggrin.gif

SGU seems dark and moody. Perfect for emo people. The scientist guy has his own agenda like the robot doctor in Alien. I hate the noob lieutenant Scott. His noobiness is annoying.

Recently had a SG-1 marathon from Season 1 to 8 (the official season). Season 9-10 isn't that good as RDA aka Mr. DIY is no longer the SG-1 team lead.

Season 1 - 5 : Pretty much set the pace for Season 6 and 7.
Season 6: The baddest bad arse in SG-1 is introduced. Like some Buaya Darat who cannot die but got no body one.
Season 7: Set the final pace for Season 6.
Season 8: Pretty much close the bad arse out from civilization. And end some story and started the so-called clones story for the Direct-to-DVD movie: SG-Continuum. Since the bad arse for that was somewhat in Season 8.

SG-1 Movie: I guess RDA is better than KR. KR looks like wood-block Anakin Skywalker of Star Wars: Episode 1

i'm not watching it for eye candy biggrin.gif i didn't like the first episodes but am waiting to see a few more.

That dr ross (?) are so contrived. reminds me of gaius baltar imo but not as sleazy. he seems to have his own motives and will do anything to make them happen even if it's to be evil.

Hate that medic girl who always says she can't do anything. If you're a medic you're trained almost to a level of an ER/casualty doctor.

Eli. Just ugh.

Eli still feels like a token character. I cannot get into any of the characters. Not much Ming Na yet so hopefully she'll be the redeeming character.

Ep 3 is out. A lil boring.

Do not like how when they communicate with earth, they "switch" bodies to make it easier on viewers. Feel like the show is dumbed down so much.

recycle plot from atlantis, bunch of scientist, sg team member and some civilian stranded on some advance ancient ship or city, most of the time due to a one way trip through a stargate. life support is failing, need to explore different planet to get help laugh.gif

seems like they run out of idea tongue.gif
and wow RDA is like a fuel barrel now, no wonder he stop fighting aliens after getting rid of the goulds.
sitting on hammond's chair now without any action might be the reason of his massive weight gain laugh.gif

will continue watching because i am a big fan of the series although i feel the quality is not as good as atlantis or sg1.

this dr.rush gives me the creeps and is quite incompetent, wonder how he can get into the stargate program at the first place. Carter blow up a sun, mckay did god noes how many miracles under the threat of impending death. This RUsh guy only know how to talk, i think even zelenka is better than him tongue.gif

and he have to put his problem into some online games and hope for some random geeks to solve it for him. omg shakehead.gif

eli is almost like a less irritating mckay lol. funny guy laugh.gif

the pilot was so-so but better than atlantis. 2nd ep is ok, got some sg-1 feel to it.

Episode 4 of SGU out. Darkness.

Quite boring. Honestly did not know (or care) what was going on. They are on the ship and it goes where it wants to go, they're just along for the ride. Lose respect when they show off girl in special space shower and army girl with big cans (and no bra) in tank top & undies. For no reason and so blatant. Sex sells I know but come on.

sex sells alright... but i got a shock of my life when I saw a full frontal scene (with boobies and bushes) in SG1 pilot,
so the "mild" scenes in SGU is nothing already tongue.gif

anyway, you'll be more disappoint in the next episode... brows.gif

true but it wasn't used in a sexual manner. i dunno how to explain how the sg1 pilot was not blatant camera ogling while SGU was just well lame. the soldier is just an object since they focus on her body - shoulders down with boobs in main focus and you don't see her face.

that's one of the main problems with SGU i can barely tell their characters apart, they're not giving us time to get to know the characters and when that happens, when viewers "don't care" about the character in the show .. they will lose interest in the show.

can't see pic? hopefully not chloe (not sure if that's her name but senator's daughter).

Scott was humping on Lt Cans in the first episode, in the closet. Or was that not her?

they learn, they modify, they build, they go for a war and they kick enemy with stylish... drool.gif

p/s : love to see when got battle on space but BSG battlescene looks more real... check out the galactica when it firing to enemy... lot of ammunition... dunno how the small fighter can escape that rain of bullet... notworthy.gif

SGU is different.. unique.. at times a bore but let's see how it goes...

For me, I still prefer the SG-1 (and Atlantis) way... simple plot, enemy that you wanna kill (and can kill) instead of an 'enemy' that's backstabbing you and you cant even strangle...

I still feel that Stargate series should be more action-packed... I mean... come on... if I wanted to explore the Stargate 'Universe' I would have gone out to buy a book/encyclopedia about it.

i love atlantis series. well, at least, we know who the enemies are from the beginning. for sg1, i like the action and such, but if i'm not mistaken, it took like 5 years to tell us that there actually other system lord; other than apophis. but still, i luve the series.

for universe, it sux. for now, currently 5 eps, the stargate only being used twice. direktor lpe ker nih ceriter stargate? i gotta tell you, they really need a bad-ass enemies now. to save the show. very the BSG la sgt...

at least BSG at 1 or 2 common enemies... here in SGU, I don't see how they're gonna have an enemy cos the blasted Ancient craft is traveling from systems to systems at light speed... so I honestly don't see how there's gonna be loads (or even enough) action to get around... I give it 1 season before SyFy calls it quits... 22 episodes of whining on a starship can be quite torturing...

SGU with more humping. I'm fine if it makes sense but they've been on this ship for a few days only. She somehow has a better connection with this dude suddenly?

I guess that's why it's hard to take the show seriously as even the characters are not. It tried to be super dramatic in ep5 but failed so badly.

I wanna see more of Ming Na's character. She played the character well, freaked out, being a civilian and all that.

Amanda Tapping still does not look that old... but Jack O' Neill (with 2 Ls (sg fans will get what i mean) ) Richard Dean Anderson looks like a fat old man already...

4 of them really really contributed a lot ... without them the SG1 wont be the same.

Don S. Davis ( George Hammond ) is dead in real life.... sigh...

I watch SGU from episode 1 to episode 10, nothing interest me. The lack of big bad enemy/loveable heroes, make Stargate Universe too boring to watch.

great news for stargate fans...

MGM officially files for bankruptcy, plans to keep Stargate
QUOTE
Metro Goldwyn Mayer, the historic film studio that owns and produces the Stargate franchise, announced today that it has officially filed for bankruptcy in New York.  This comes on the heels of last week’s vote by creditors, who “overwhelmingly approved” MGM’s plan to turn over ownership to its debt holders and emerge from bankruptcy with new management.

The studio’s fate is now in the hands of the court, and MGM said it believes the plan will be approved in approximately 30 days.

The pre-packaged bankruptcy will let MGM out of its more than $4 billion in debt, with those debt holders instead owning around 95 percent of the reorganized company.  The other 5 percent will go to Spyglass Entertainment and its related subsidiaries, with Spyglass chiefs Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum serving as MGM’s new co-Chief Executive Officers.

The studio also said that it has enough cash on hand to continue normal business operations during the bankruptcy period, including paying its employees and vendors.

Most significantly for Stargate fans, MGM said that it plans to retain all of its assets during the procedures — and to raise around $500 million in new capital after emerging from Chapter 11, to fund operations “including production of a new slate of films and television series.”

Stargate fans have been waiting in particular for a pair of DVD movies in the franchise, both of which are scripted and awaiting a green light. The end of MGM’s crippling debt and a new influx of capital will be a big step forward — though not the only factor in when SG-1‘s Stargate: Revolution and Atlantis‘s Stargate: Extinction will be made. The studio also needs to be convinced that the films will actually turn a profit — whether in the DVD market or other means it could use to get them to fans.

“For many months, we have been working with our lenders to explore the strategic options available to MGM to improve MGM’s financial position and maximize the Company’s value,” co-Chief Executive Officer Steve Cooper said in the press release. “By sharply reducing MGM’s debt load and providing access to new capital, the proposed plan of reorganization achieves these goals. Having received approval through our recently completed solicitation process, we are pleased that the lenders support MGM’s approach. We now look forward to quickly emerging from Chapter 11.”

“MGM is emerging from one of the most challenging periods of its storied history,” Barber and Birnbaum said. “We are honored and inspired at the prospect of leading one of Hollywood’s most iconic studios into its next generation of unforgettable filmmaking, global television production and distribution, and aggressively pursuing, developing and exploiting new digital entertainment platforms.”

In related news, Carl Icahn — who holds a large portion of the studio’s debt and has been attempting to take over Lionsgate and merge its assets with MGM — will approve of the bankruptcy plan after it makes “certain immaterial modifications,” in MGM’s words.

“I am pleased that we were able to obtain an agreement to make changes to the MGM Prepackaged Plan that allows me to support it and enables the Company to avoid a potentially costly and disruptive bankruptcy process,” Icahn said in his own media statement. Among the changes, he cited a strong corporate governance structure, MGM’s not aquiring the Cypress film library, and Icahn’s right to designate a member on the MGM Board.

Stargate Universe Flies off into that Great Unknown Called Cancellation

user posted image

The SyFy Channel has made it official: “Stargate: Universe”, the latest iteration of the popular “Stargate” franchise, has gotten the ax after just a season and a half. The show still has 10 remaining episodes in the bag, and the cable network plans to air all 10 episodes early next year.

This marks the first time a “Stargate” show has been canceled so quickly. The first version, “Stargate: SG1″ ran for a record 10 seasons before getting mercifully axed. (By then, the team had essentially beaten every Intergalactic villain imaginable, and it was obviously treading water.) The follow-up series, “Stargate: Atlantis” lasted five seasons, which is still three seasons more than “Stargate: Universe”, probably the most hyped and most critically acclaimed series in the entire franchise, including the original movie with Kurt Russell.

Of course, I’m sure it didn’t help that “Universe” polarized fans almost instantly with its newer, younger, hipper, and more depressing cast and dark and gritty storylines. Most “Stargate” fans saw the show as a bad attempt at pandering to the “Battlestar Galactica” audience, and indeed, “Universe’s” seemingly new audience base and critical kudos seem to bear this initial reaction out. Unfortunately, the show quickly pissed off any goodwill it had with longtime “Stargate” fans, who turned out in droves to “hate” on it on various message boards at every opportunity. Sci-fi shows have always lived and died by cult fanbases, and when you have an entire fanbase devoted to hating you, it’s probably not such a good thing.

The cancellation of “Stargate: Universe” comes after SyFy canceled their other critically acclaimed and bleak original show “Caprica” (starting to see a pattern here?), and it was thought that, given the two shows’ similar situation, “SGU” wouldn’t be far behind. Turns out that was very true.

Tidbits: “SGU” boasted the franchise’s biggest cast to date, including movie actors Ming Na (who played a lesbian in space, natch) and Robert Carlyle, who played a Baltar-esque “good/bad guy”. The show also featured plenty of sex and heavy breathing throughout its darken ship corridors, and you would think sci-fi nerds would love that. Apparently, not so much.

That's disappointing....SGU canceled too after Caprica just got axed. Hopefully we get to understand Destiny's true purpose by the end.

not surprising. SGU sucks !!
they should have continue Atlantis instead of creating a new show with lousy plots and no x-factor actors in it.

SGU plot points is fine really, but the direction kills it...unnecessary drama+unlikeable characters+more drama+DRAMA!!!! i thought they wanna change the direction abit in season 2 based on fans reaction...yet... shakehead.gif
i just hope they'll change the season finale to provide proper closure to the series...

no surprise here it got canceled, I'm even surprised that it even got season 2! tongue.gif

I've drop it after watching the first few episodes

I would prefer if they are stuck on Destiny, and cut off from all sort of communication with earth
instead, the use of communication stone spoils everything dry.gif

OK, next SG franchise please! biggrin.gif

Well the show has already ended. The finale although doesn't provide a full conclusion (like Caprica's) was actually good albeit a bit sad.
