Started my research at LYN very own LCD and Plasma TV discussion thread, then google about IPS Alpha Panels and all. End up getting to a few threads in avforums.com and also some av enthusiast forums in India and Indonesia. laugh.gif

Anyway trust your eyes. Bring your console to the store and test. tongue.gif

If you wanna get a Panny I'd recommend this seller: iamsobloodysick

His price is cheaper compared to retail. Comes with valid warranty. His shop is in Kajang or thereabouts.
For the aforementioned LX800, it's RM21XX compared to retail RM24XX. shocking.gif

Sharp is 4ms, Panny is 6ms.
Anyways the black level on the IPS Alpha panel is deeper, and the colors are very accurate. The viewing angle is also wider - 178 degree.

What's the current price of the A53? Last I checked it was still 2400-ish.

Is Plasma good for games too? If its good for movies, I can't see any reason why it won't be good for gaming as compared to LCD.

The PL3403 has a little bit of "ghosting" on very fast moving scenes, however it does triumph over the Samsung LA450 interms of contrast and image sharpness. You can go for either of them, I'd personally suggest the Phillips because of their ambilight feature which is keeps the TV relatively cool and consume much lesser power for a 40-incher.

Thanks SSJBen for ur advice, seems not many ppl talking about philips LCD here! i went to harvey norman yesterday n 1 malay sales approached me n explain all the pros n cons on LCD to me which is quite details. According to him (i m not 100% agree) Japanese always have a upper hand over t korean esp in term of durability due to QC. He highly suggest Toshiba Regza 42AV550E. After my 2 weeks researh, this is my finding of like n unlike:-

a) Samsung LA450 - Modern n nice desgin, more input connection (3HDMI + 2 component input ), 40" maybe just nice for my watching distance @ approx 7 ft , Swivel stand useful to me, picture processing quality/power nt as good as others.

b) Phlips PFL3403 - Modern n nice desgin, 1 component input (seems nt enuf if wana connect my exisitng DVDplayer & my RMVB player, maybe can use the VGA connection for my rmvb player!), better response time n color processing power, no swivel stand

c) Toshiba 42AV550E - flat design, no side connection which might be inconvenient if i wall mount my LCD, feature almost similar to philips but haven compare the picture quality side by side, no swivel stand

d) Sharp LC37A37M: Design quite nice, 8bit processing (really matter?), highly recommended here, no 42" HD ready in the latest model lineup (full HD out of my budget oledi)

Conclusion: the more u research the harder to decide. unsure.gif

Not really.... Japanese doesn't always have the upper hand. Toshiba and Sony afterall sourced their panels from... Samsung.

If you want something over 40", I still suggest you go for the Phillips. If the component input is a problem, you can always buy an extra component input adapter for more inputs.

I haven't really seen much of the Toshiba 42AV550E, but according to most, its pretty darn good. Picture quality should, actually be a little bit better(depending on the source of course) than the Phillips though due to the better image processor Toshiba has.
