How are you guys getting speeds above 11,500 KB/s (100Mbit ethernet controller) @ youngkies/corad

Are you guys using a gigabit ethernet port? My Dell notebook only has a 10/100 Mbit controller.

I love downloading via Usenet @ 11MB/s, that's as much as UCL's network lets me go to. Either that or my ethernet port could be limiting my speeds. smile.gif

You don't need Rapidshare.

You need Usenet baby. Everything you want is there.

there is definitely such service, but you will pay way extra for it. and no. extended service warranty in msia (where you get people to come over for servicing in msia) and next day on-site support in UK is different.

if you stay in UK, you will know how tricky service business is.

Added on July 20, 2009, 7:29 pmmy reason of not recommending dell,

1. crap build, wont last for more than 3 years.

2. laptop nowadays, are cheap and reliable. if it is broken in 1-2 years, consider yourself unlucky and get a new one then.

3. warranty specification vary largely bet. UK, Malaysia and so called international.

4. dell service could be top-notch in msia, but sorry not in UK. if you feel insecure for not having warranty on your laptop, buy your laptop from pcworld etc and also purchase their warranty at about 5pounds per month. if there is problem, you can anytime drop to their store for servicing. rest, manufacturing warranty, can be a tedious procedure over the phone and mailing.

I have a different experience from you. The first two years in UK, my laptop had some problems. The harddisk died because something fell on my laptop. Also, I had to change the keyboard and screen hinge. DVD ROM, fan and heat sink.

All these were changed for me at no charge while I was still on warranty. They came the next day (or the day after if I chose). A technician would come to my flat, fix it up for me and leave. Harddisk change was even simpler. They would require me just to hand it over to them, and it's a simple 1 to 1 exchange for a brand new harddisk.

This is my reason for recommending Dell. My computer still works fine after 3 years. My warranty was easily transferrable. You just had to call Dell, or email them to transfer your warranty from Malaysia to UK.

Simple. I would like to know what happened on your end.

In Malaysia, I have absolutely no complaint about Dell. They had come to me several times for various things for my varies computers. Just pick up the phone, tell them the problem, they diagnosis over the phone, then come over. Right up to the 3 yrs warranty.

So I really don't know what is going on with Dell UK. Are they totally opposite to Dell Malaysia or not?

I was saying that their service was good. No complaints. Just pick up the phone call them and tell them that something is wrong. Next day the technician shows up at your door, shakes your hand and fixes your computer. Leaves without even needing a cup of tea.
