Was tempted to get the 6500 before found out Popcornhour released A110. The high price of 6500 makes me decided to get a Popcorn and HDX900.

This TVix is manufacturing from china....so...shorter distance for Malaysia...especially when they give promo....
keee....may be the price was just the Tvix 7000a only when they reply even I ask for all....but still cheaper than your unit 6500... tongue.gif
During the fair, .....they are offering the 6500 with hardisk and tunner for $1.6K...nvm...

Well, many times, when you see the price oversea webpages...the price is sky high....good example is the Onkyo AVR recent sales.....As long as you have source.....why don't.....

Here suppose to discuss which one you will buy....when the price is right , their service is reliable etc....

Please vote for your choice...Many thanks.....

i mean m6500 and m7000 is the same generation.

anyway...i dont quite agree with the reasoning that product manufactured in china would be cheaper in Msia compared to say, US.

I remember he mentioned with tuner and hardisk......for RM1800 and RM1650 for 7000 and 6500 each (which this after added extra RM$100 for the hardisk)..somemore with free bag also

See below the price.....
[attachmentid=590475]
(the sales guy wrote one)

Maybe you can try to ask directly to the distributor...see what they offer to you la....
If the price not correct, I will update again the first post...

Anyway, I will drop-by their office ....maybe this week or next week

Agree....

But, what is the outstanding feature of TVIX to make us folk out more money? Can anyone help to list down?
(Please help to correct me if I am wrong again...keeee)
********************************************************************
TVix M7000a have but....not at the HDX1000
1) The ability to connect with Tunner....(might be cost several 100 bulk more) -Opitonal DTV Tuner port (not necesary la)
2) Memory (negative feature)
Main:256M byte/flash 64M byte (who is the winner - I think shall be HDX1000...betul kah...bigger size for HDX1000)
3) Ripped File demuXer Engine????..improve playback ability....compabilities of TVIX (developed by DVico)...really ah?????? - can help kah???
4) Fan with varible speed and sensor control (not necessary la)
5) Good service- proven as rx3 review (+ feature)
6) Subtitle can change colour (TFF (True type font)) (Not necessary la)
7) optional WLAN 802.1g (don't need to add $$$ or not)..hm... (Not necessary la)
8) DVD jukebox...requiredkah?
9) VFD display...(not need to ON TV to navigate) (+feature)
********************************************************************
Both also have
1) solid aluminium casing
2) support streaming/FTP /downloading from internet...etc
3) latest chipset SMP8635 (HDX1000 said Rev C but...no claim from TVIC)
4) support HDMI 1.3a
5) USB 2.0 (2x host, 1x slave/target)
6) SATA HDD
7) support NTFS , FAT
8) with composite or component video
9) with stereo Anologue and digital (Coaxial and Optical)
10) sinilar audio and video format decoder ability
********************************************************************
HDX1000..advantages:
1) Gold plated connector (++ feature- l like this)
2) Memory (high amount- should be better la- + feature)
DDR DRAM : 64-bit 512Mb
External NOR Flash : 16-bit 256Mbit
3) SDHC, MS PRO DUO and MMC card reader (Not necessary)
********************************************************************
Do you really want to pay another ~1K to get this TVIX M7000A? doh.gif doh.gif

What does these things doo acctually? Store and play media?
Lai spoon feed me a bit.
*
What is the Networked Media Tank (NMT) ?
The NMT is a product developed by Syabas Technology that combines Digital Media Adaptor (DMA), NAS, Media Server and Torrent downloader in a single lower cost device. Some versions will include DVD and BluRay playback capability.

Why do I need an NMT?
There are several reasons why you need an NMT. If you have a large media collection and would like to view it on your plasma/projector/home theater system. This is one of the most cost-effective ways to avoid investing in a HTPC. You can stream music, pictures and most importantly videos. The NMT supports H.264 video which is a compliant 1080p HiDef codec used by Bluray and HD-DVD. The second generation of NMT players with HDMIv1.3 support HD audio codec passthrough.

What are the supported file system for NMT?
File system read supported: EXT2/3, NTFS, FAT16/32, HFS+
File system write supported: EXT2/3, FAT16/32. NTFS write (not supported and low priority in to do list)

What type of network sharing does the NMT built-in NAS support?
SMB, FTP, NFS

(The above info will update at the post #1 of this thread)

If yr friend can help to do some footwork for us, it will be very good.
If buy direct from HDX site, I worry about the tax also..coz this thing is electronic stuff and are taxable...sad.gif

Seem like there is another bulk going on at xtremeplace.com Forum. They are bulkin Elektron EHP-606 @ Sin$285. very good deal I would said.

I manage contact a sale person from HDX.
He told me USD219 is fix. The only thing can save is combine shipping. They using TNT service. If single unit order, cost is USD50 ship to Malaysia sweat.gif sweat.gif

Those MO from singapore forum are basically collect like 30 units and share the shipping cost.

He suggest me to gather an interest list who want to buy. Then if get enough volume then can proceed with order. Minimum MOQ is 20 units sweat.gif

So who is interested to get HDX-1000 ??? hmm.gif

Try not to use TNT, Fedex, DHL & UPS would be a better choice. If declare as sample, one unit should not be a problem.

Hey, keep me posted if there's a bulk. I like the TVIX but at that price, I might as well get an actual HTPC and get tax rebate as a PC. However, I like the convenience of a NMT so if it's like RM800, count me in.

waiting for him to pass them to me for testing and installation...

i have used most media player except dvico 7000 or 6500 so i can't compare them ...
can't get any of my clients to buy those dvico series.. usually recommend and they buy 4100 or 5100...

now with hdx don't think any will buy those dvico unless i find faults with the hdx...or loaded people...

tongue.gif don't get me wrong .. i still think dvico is really excellent built and does everything as advertised.. i would definetly buy it too if i had the money nod.gif ...sold around 10 units mostly 4000,4100 and 5100 and none (knock on wood) has failures..sarotech got one failure...

but the dvico quite expensive ... some people just want affordable stuff that works ... and when u tell them the price of dvico comparable to hdx .. sure will choose the hdx...

update: one of the hdx1000 that arrive was defective .. couldn't boot up.. took me a long time before i decided to open the other pack to test and realise the first one was defective...

well, my take is a bit different, for me tvix benefits is the dvb tuner
like i always say, the best is get 2, one for primary display and another for secondary display, one tvix and one nmt base

im still waiting for more feedbacks on hdx 1000, the 6500 is outof budget for me

After reading various forums, I have decided not to purchase hdx1000. Just too many complains on hdx1000. rclxub.gif
Going to get myself a HTPC instead. biggrin.gif

does a pc connected to a AV receiver and a LCD TV which has all those diff codecs to play all sorts of files considered as HTPC?

Does the dual core atom comes together with the motherboard? Any HDMI output or digital output for audio?

home theater PC

which like a normal PC, SFF (m-atx or itx board). You still load an OS inside.
Linux? Windows? As you like.

But at least u won't have problem playing any kind of video formats, as always way to install updated codec packs. smile.gif

from my first few experience on the hdx1000, the hdx is not for the casual user..
steep learning curve and any mistake might brick the machine..
casing and general outlook is very nice...however overall quality (qc) is lousy.. from machine not working to led lights going out...

picture quality on mkv and normal files is excellent...but i did see a bit stuttering on iron man 1080p vc1 mkv files 50% into the movie.. could be problem on vc1 files...

the worst to me is that they do not have a converter for dts.. the output is pure digital raw output.. i cannot set it to analog.. so for people with no amp to convert dts files u won't be able to hear anything (was watching ironman with no sound).. and most of my 1080p files are dts.. dvico is able to go analog...

other dislikes

no delete button
no fast rewind on mkv files
no bookmark on remote
when scrolling list of files..theres a delay like 2 seconds to go to the next page...
shipment of hdx1000 was in the worst kind of protective materials.. in came in a those courier plastic and the original hdx1000 box.. thats it.. nothing else to protect.. box was like in bash up condition...

likes
box includes hdmi cables...
remote nice feel
very fast detection of usb memory stick
i like how when u press numbers on the remote it quickly goes (example number 4) 40% into the movie

still pumping more files into the machine and testing it later....

update:

ok i was wrong on this one firmware updates is quite easy .. but still not for the casual user

latest update of firmware gives an option in dts for dts-hd raw .. however still no analog for dts doh.gif

ironman vc1 1080p doesn't stutter 50% into the movie.. after update of firmware...

now for that defective unit , all emails to the singapore branch going to deaf ears.. no response from them yet... after sales looks like crap !!!

just now having problem switching to different tvmode.. here the proper way for those who need to know..
Remotecontrol:

Tv Mode then wait an second or two and then press this

0 = Auto TV Mode
1 = Composite 480i (NTSC)
2 = Composite 576i (PAL)
3 = no function
4 = Component 720p 60hz (NTSC)
5 = Component 1080i 60hz (NTSC)
6 = Component 1080p 60hz (NTSC)
7 = HDMI 720p 60hz (NTSC)
8 = HDMI 1080i 60hz (NTSC)
9 = HDMI 1080p 60hz (NTSC)

because component and Hdmi only give you 60hz NTSC we include an extra function which you can use with TV Mode then again wait one second or two then press CAPS/NUM to switch to 50hz (PAL) you can do it that way also back again to 60hz (NTSC)

also if u on composite mode the blue led light will disapear ...

probably in the future firmware upgrade for hdx1000.. which they promise in september..

"We have acquired the necessary license to decode DTS to avoid customers need to have a DTS decoder or convert their .dts movies. This increases the convenience for the customer! (To be added via firmware update in September)"

but the only thing that was updated was an option for dts-hd....

I have purchased HP Compaq Presario CPU. The casing is a bit big for HTPC but don't care as I want to put it on the floor and might want to have future upgrade capability. Initially identified Dell Vostro 200 slim PC but that slim casing will give lots of headache when want to change parts later on.

My low cost HTPC spec biggrin.gif .

AMD 64 X2 4200
1GB Ram
250GB HDD
HD3450 VGA card (still trying to find one with HDMI output, preferably Asus brand).
HTPC remote control
Vista Home basis (I found mediaportal software which is free rclxms.gif looks nice )

So far RM1000++ already and without the HD3450 card yet. I am at East Malaysia...so have to buy things online...difficult to DIY, so I bought a really made CPU instead. biggrin.gif

The problem exist for all NMT which is under the Syabas firmware/software. It's more of a licensing issue with DTS. So hopefully it'll come sometime soon but I doubt it'll be backwards compatible with the older hardware because of this issue. Unless the manufacturer willing to pay a blanket licensing fee to DTS.

update : the defective unit works.. damn man .. so if any u guys buy a hdx1000 and u have the dreaded red light error .. just pull out the motherboard .. shake it all around .. put it back .. sure work one.. rclxms.gif

forum extreemeplace gave a helpful faq on rma your hdx if u ever have problems....
You do not contact the singapore office (not sure whether can be contacted or not) for RMA. You need to:
1) Register an account at www.hdx1080.com website.
2) With this account, submit an RMA request at the support website. You will need to submit your order number as well, this will expedite thing. You will have a ticket number from this request.
3) They will send you an RMA form which you need to fill up with the RMA number. The RMA number is the ticket number from 2.
4) Lastly, you need to send the form together with your faulty component back to their RMA office in China. You have to pay for this yourself. After they have received your faulty component, they will send you a replacement with shipping paid by them.

u know i begining to like this machine hdx1000..
because of the simpleness with the hardware and software (after researching the tweaks it needed because there is no bloody manual that comes with it)...

but still the disadvantage is the dts..hopefully that firmware upgrade they been promising will come soon
but its not that big disadvantage as 720p tv series is not decoded with dts .. only if u have a large collection of dts 1080p 720p movies ...

Meanwhile if you need to playback MKV with DTS, all you need is to convert the audio track to AC3 using audioconverter. You have an option to keep or delete the DTS as well. It's quite fast on a C2D, about 15mins for a 8Gb+ file.

andyz, thanks for sharing on your experience and the photos of your unit. I must say that the unit looks really nice in brushed aluminum. My preference is towards NMT based devices now because of the Movie Jukebox that the DVICO units don't have, besides the high cost. So you're saying it'll only take a firmware upgrade to gain DTS decoding?

adamw, how do you rate your Egreat against the HDX? Did you mail order it as well? Thanks.

Well, the external cannot compete with the HDX but that's only cosmetic but the internal motherboard is well thought out & I presume would have less problem as those mentioned by andyz. I brought in 10 units for myself & friends. Still have a few units more if anyone interested. Will package with 1.5tb as I feel the bigger the storage, the better it is for this kind of item.

This may be a stupid question ... but can I have NO internal HD whatsoever inside the network media player (e.g. HDX1000) and instead have a NAS / PC on 24 hours feeding the data via a gigabit network to say - 6 units of HDX1000 around the house?

Any issues with this setup expected?

Thanks

Without the internal HDD you'll loose certain features like BT, Internet TV etc but you'll still be able to stream video through it. No problem if that what you need to do.

Chip is Sigma 8635LF. Wonder what's the difference of this chipset with the Sigma 8635c in the rest of the NMT.

The list in this poll needs to be updated. I have used most of these players and here is the long and short as I see it currently:

The TVIX top of the line is the 6500A. There is no reason except looks to buy the 7000 as it has the exact same innards. It is about 100 USD more, and is bigger and more expensive to ship. It won't fit in your stack either, if you are stacking gear in a cabinet. But if you like the look and have the money, why not?

The advantage of the TVIX is very solid HD 1080P MKV and DTS playback. The beta firmwares are getting good for Blu-ray files too. The big dissadvantage is the price. It is a lot more than other players. Also, it has fewer features if you are looking for features other than straight file plaback. The best place to buy the 6500 in the US is www.tvixbox.com . Good price and free shipping. Discounted international shipping.

The next type of player to consider, using the same chipset are the NMT players, of which there are probably 20+ brands and 100 models by now. The thing to understand here is that all of them run the same software and have the same features. The only difference is hardware and that is not even always that different. So, choose an NMT with a good manufacturer reputation, fast firmware updates, good hardware and a good price. The best NMT in the past two years or so has been the EGreat line. A few months ago they released the EG-M34A which was basically created to replace the PCH and the WDTV players. It has all the features you need in an NMT and is half the price of many of them. There is really no reason to buy any NMT but this one. It is $159 from www.egreatusa.com . Why wait for a PCH and why even think about an HDX or an ISTAR at this point? Not that there is anything wrong with those . . . just from a buyer's guide point of view.

What makes NMT a better choice for some people (not all) over other Sigma 8635 players is the wide range of features it offers (youtube on tv, internet radio, msp, bittorrent downloads, etc.) and the strong user community pushing its development. If you like tinker, it is a good player for you.

As far as other good Sigma 8635 players, there are quite a few. Simply check a site with everything like www.deflixious.com . You will see the i-box z400w wireless integrated, the itab-38hd rip'n'store with one touch retail DVD ripping . .. these are all good players. Just a choice of features set.

Then again if all you need to do play some BT downloads on your TV then why not simply a Media Station I or II from www.deflixious.com for $59? No need to get a Sigma player in that case . . . . smile.gif

Hope this helps somebody wink.gif
