Wow new Touch Pro thread! Nice. Congratulations to the new Touch Pro owners indeed.

To improve reception apparently some ppl on XDA flashed their ROM to the Cingular Radio stack version 1.02.31 instead of the 1.02.19 that comes stock. Seemed to improve quite abit. Do a HardSPL first before flashing anything.
*
haven't do a hard spl yet, will use this with stock rom probably a week before doing it!

GARMIN MOBILE XT for WINDOWS MOBILE (RUNNING ON TOUCH PRO)

To be frank, I hate using Mapking, too fussy and lousy in detail. I've got the Garmin Mobile XT running just 2 days ago though, and it's working just fine! XD

One problem I encountered was the pain in the neck to install the *ahem*cwack*ahem* version. There's no proper guideline on how to install it online, and most guides I downloaded was in Italian. However, a super-deep search found me a nice guide, and that guide was super helpful.

One thing I'd like to note is how selfish the people at Malsingmaps are, they weren't willing to provide a MAP ID which is required to "unlock" the map for your non-genuine Garmin Mobile XT... SO I resorted to a nice site with a Malsing map (which is slightly outdated by a few months, but nevertheless working WONDERFUL).

If you still persist on getting Malsingmaps for your Garmin Mobile XT, you'd need to contribute about 2 POIs (point of interests e.g. places to get nice food) to malsingmaps portal.

PS: Note that it's "illegal" to request for help to install the Garmin Mobile XT nor crack it and get unlocked maps. (The malsingmaps people, selfishly, stressed on this, and left poor people, and I was one of the victims, to get it up and running). But since I've got I'm willing to help those who wish to get their hands on a Garmin Mobile XT for their Windows Mobile device install it (and send them the files too!), all the way. Just PM me when you need.

Added on September 9, 2008, 2:26 pmHey, anyone here have problems with their battery life on their TP? Mine can only last a day or so (with extensive use of GPS, Camera and Music plus Calls and Games).

And I find this annoying. What if I go on a 3 day trip somewhere forgetting to bring me cable or charger along? Then the phone dies off after a day. Pity those serious business people working on their TPs. XD
*
GPS - i'm currently using mapking 2007, it was working fine but hate the outlook [ not vga ready cry.gif ], how's the garmin mobile so far? does it lock on to gps fast? any gps lag? and is this garmin vga compatible?

Battery - fully charged my TP on sunday nite, still got 2 bar left as at now [ based on moderate phone call, light gaming, extensive gpsing, 30 min on music ] btw i turn off the 3G and using gsm network as i hardly use 3G tongue.gif. this is helpful to extend the battery life !

Funnyman : Can you describe how bad was your incoming sound volume ? was it as bad as if was mere whispering sound?

Also using Garmin XT, which i think is far easier to use than Mapking, and looks better too. Using with malsing maps. No issue so far, but won't know until i drive in my car tmrow (with vkool)
welcome to the pro club, already added the user list! rclxms.gif i'll give garmin xt a try since there's few positive comment on this, busy downloading those necessary garmin xt file tongue.gif

Guys got a general question on my touch pro.

If I wanna load up my songs, movies and pics to my mem card, at which folder level?

I tried to store it in .../storage and the pics in DCIM but can't seem to view it.

Is there a best practice to where to store pics and vids?
*
it's up to individual user preference, for myself i just create a new folder in the storage card for all my mp3! [ can view and no problem accessing it wo.. ]

QUOTE(robinlim @ Sep 10 2008, 09:53 AM)
old newspaper,

Me also got my HTC TP finally! In fact I bought it last Saturday. The vendor even said that I was the first buyer then smile.gif

Actually I've been anticipating this phone since it was officially revealed on HTC website. By then the Diamond was just launched. At first I intended to buy Diamond, but felt upset that it has no card slot for memory expansion. By the time I saw TP which comes with keyboard and card slot, I was really excited, and anticipating it's launching!

Before I switched to this phone, I used Dopod 838Pro, which was one of the best PDA phone I've ever used (the WM6 ROM, not the WM5 ROM which was much lousier). But I like TP more as it has better features and the size is smaller (838Pro is more bulky).
*
congrat for being the first user here or perhaps in Malaysia! rclxms.gif

QUOTE(robinlim @ Sep 10 2008, 10:12 AM)
Hi, I'm new to GPS. My previous PDA did not have the GPS chipset. I only used mapking for viewing purpose, and found it fussy too. Is it true that Garmin is much better than MK? gotta give it a try.

I'm also having problem with the battery life. Just one day and the battery life is left with 2 bars only. No usage of GPS, Camera, web-surfing and games, only few phone calls with 3G and Bluetooth functions on. My previous phone 838Pro with the same usage still can maintain full bars after 1 day.  I wonder if the Touch Flo function is the main culprit?
*
try switch off 3G network if you're not using it, it does really help to prolong the battery life.

Here some review about TP video out from wmpoweruser.com

HTC Touch Pro video out - shockingly good!

The HTC Touch Pro has TV-out functionality, which can only be accessed by buying a special cable. This probably means most buyers will never be aware how good this feature really is, and how well HTC has implemented it.

Fortuanately sub69 from xda-developers.com has put up a post describing in pictures how well this function really works.

To use the video out you need this cable. When you plug it in you get the option to choose between NTSC and PAL. The device also automatically rotate to landscape mode.

user posted image

A shortcut screen then pops up, giving you quick access to applications which benefit particularly from the bigger screen, such as Powerpoint Mobile for presentations and the Youtube player.

user posted image

More after the break.

The applications display particularly well on screen, and where the UI is designed for portrait, like the Youtube player, the device rotates to portrait automatically.

sub69 also reports when receiving a phone call the phone is placed in Speakerphone mode, and the audio automatically gets routed through the TV. A potential issue is that the screen stays lit all the time when the video cable is plugged in, making an extra power input essential when watching a movie for example.

Potential usage scenarios would be displaying movies while traveling on a hotel TV, similarly displaying video from Slingbox on a bigger screen, Powerpoint presentations of course, and showing photos to the family on a big screen.

The video-out cable is available on Expansys for £16.99.

btw, no 1 answers my previous question? the tp is using resistive/capacitive touch screen?

TP is using Resistive (Pressure sensitive) touchscreen tongue.gif

oh btw the way for those wondering what's resistive or capacitive touch screen, here's some info;

Resistive (Pressure sensitive) touchscreen:
This is the most widely used touchscreen scheme for the production of mobile phones. It is most common in the Windows Mobile Professional phones, for example HTC TyTN II or HTC Touch Diamond; it is resistant to water and dust, but it is easily scratched and cannot be used with sharp objects. It is represented by three types: 4-wire, 5-wire and 8-wire with the second one being the most used. In contrast to the other types it is composed of three layers, rather than two with the additional layer ensuring greater durability and a much longer life (35 million clicks, instead of 1 million), without impacting the price.

This type of technology works according to the following method: there are small plastic dots (spacer dots) between the two layers, which prevent them from touching if there’s no pressure used. There’s electricity going through each one of the layers and in the event of contact, a chain is formed. The amount of the electricity, passing between the layers is then measured, in order to determine the point of touch. Unfortunately, this method cannot report more than one touch at a time and lets through about 85% of the light, emitted by the screen. The good news is that this is the least expensive from all three types of touchsreen systems and you can use any object to touch it, e.g. a stylus or a finger.

Pro : Can be press with any object, low price

Cons : Easily scratched, does not report to more than one touch at a time, lets through less light

Capacitive (Electrostatic) touchscreen:

Lately, this type of technology has been gaining popularity in the mobile phone industry, its most renowned representatives being Apple’s iPhone and LG PRADA. The smaller market share of phones with such screens is due mostly to their high price, since this is not a cheap method. It has two main subtypes, one of which cannot register more than one touch at a time, while the other, called „MultiTouch” by their creators (Apple and used in iPhone and iPod) can. In addition, despite not being the first to employ it, these two devices made this type of technological method popular.

LG PRADA, Apple iPhone
This system employs just one layer (a grid), covered with an electroconductive material (most often indium tin oxide), providing continuous current with a certain frequency. When touching the screen with an object emitting a constant electric flow, for example a human finger (the human body generates electricity), a change in the current occurs and that’s how the contact point is determined. The pros of this type of technology are that it is scratch, moisture and dust-proof, it lets through about 92% of the light, emitted by the screen and has a very long life (about 225 million clicks). The bad news is that this touchscreen type cannot be activated by contact with inanimate objects (e.g. the gloves that you might be wearing).

Pro : Can registered more than one touch at a time, let's thru the emitted light to a great extend
Cons : Cannot be just activated by just any object, high price

pls correct me if i'm wrong ya! wink.gif
