i have Vista Ultimate with 2.5gb ram
at idle mode it already consume 46% of my ram.. so try imagine that you have 1gb ram and running such high ram usage adobe software.
put the cpu/ram meter there.. i think it already reach 100%

Thanks

for compaq model with two slot. maximum optimization of ram is 4GB with Vista and 3Gb with XP(even you put 4gb, XP take it as 3Gb).
For ram price. you can refer to the dealer guide thread of refer to bulk sales thread. there are alot of price there and you can purchase online there.
Thanks
