Hi there I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this but I couldn't find an appropriate one. I'm currently studying overseas and will be back at the end of the year. Was wondering whether Maxis 3g, (the unlimited RM99 one) has a minimum contract period? And just to make sure: I'm using an NZ iphone 3g- would there be any fuss with the APN and stuff? or is it just a matter of popping in the maxis sim card and running it?

Thanks a bunch

i have yet to subsribe this plan before.

anyway if this maxis package looks like their conventional blackberry packages, then there isn't any minimum subscription period and you can cancel it at anytime.

but it does get a bit tricky here, as for example, your billing date each month falls on the 15th and you subscribed on the 23rd, the package only becomes active the next billing month.

maxis claim is that they can only activate it immediately if you have phoned them, seeking to subscribe a couple of days (or earlier) than your billing date.

gotta be careful with these maxis fellows as they can be really inconsistent with their words. i once purchase the data bundle as well and was told the entire story (i.e. the prorata, activated in a while etc)

turns out when i received my statement, i wasn't billed accordingly and they claimed that my call was slightly "too late" missing by a few days of my billing calender date.

the term "activated" here can be rather misleading as it could either mean, have it activated to your account, but you still get charged the usual rates until when you start you new billing calender date, or it has been activated and you free to start using it.

to be safe, always have it checked with a least 2 separate maxis consultants and make them note it down in your call history (all personnel have to make a short summary after each call and that is when they sent you a text seeking for your opinion to rate their service)

hence this story

don't know what is wrong with the url. but i will just paste the story here:

it reminds me of a story which my friend has told me whilst she was working as a maxis customer service operator (you know where you dial 123)

this dude ranked up a rm20k internet bills without realising it and when he called up, he was literally crying.

but in the end, maxis and that bloke managed to come up with a settlement.

moral of the day? JB and install bosspref!

I dont know Maxis deals with their Unlimited package, but on Celcom, the Unlimited thing applies only to their 3G service. So everytime I see the "box with a dot" come up, I had to stop any net activity to avoid incurring charges.

Hmmm...... I forgot to Bosspref it and my son chalk up more that RM250/= in 10 days, not sure how much so I will wait for the bill. Maybe I should tell them that how can it be more that RM99/= arguement smile.gif. Even with Bosspref it is still not 100% and you need to test it. Just to be sure I go to the apn, username and password and keyin a bunch of rubbish. That way cannot login at all.

I have another issue, currently I have my own SIM card in my phone with no data plan which I seldom use and I have a Maxis broadband USB plan at RM118/= unlimited. Now that I have the iphone I wanted to merge the services into a single sim card and it seems cannot. I have to terminate the maxis broadband and pay a Rm200/= penalty then subscribe the plan on my existing number sad.gif.

@ jackdon

i'm not working for maxis or have any affiliation with them, but you cannot use the rm99 argument because that is the premium price offered by them. it is part of the contract and you can read it up. unless they have specifically reiterate that all usage will be capped.

one good analogy, imagine that you are in restaurant which serves both À la carte and buffet, and you have decided to go for À la carte orders. turns out that you have exceeded the price of a buffet meal. how do you propose to argue about that then?

same principle is applicable here.

All,
After review all the comments, guess that was some mistake or wrong impression occurs.
I have been using Maxis 3G unlimited package for pass 3 years due to job requirement. Here my experience.
3G Unlimited package include of any 3G / EDGE or GPRS traffic. As some area may not cover by 3G hence it will drop to EDGE or GPRS and you still enjoy unlimited data follow but slow.
If your phone only EDGE, this package applied too.
Initial Billing. Once you indicated you want the unlimited package, then billing will start and it will be average break down till your billing day.
Example: Your billing date is 15th each month, and you initial on 8th. The bill will average the 7 days and charge to your bill.
• Take note. You need ensure it was already cover by the unlimited package before start use. Yes, reconfirmed it. Initial I hit the problem when the CS informed it been activate and I start using it. Just for few days, the cost was RM200 over...but it been resolved by they re-adjust the bill.

Whether you turn off 3G and switch to EDGE, but as long you initial the data connection, maxis will charge too. Hence you have only 2 options. Turn off any data traffic or pay...sad.gif
Different between 3G / EDGE / GPRS is the traffic speed. Costing still remain the same, as they calculate base on data usage not speed.
• My statement stand only if you are Post Pay customer not prepay.

Any way to turn off EDGE? As there's an option to turn off 3G.
Sometimes when surfing the web on WIFI and the Wifi connections got disconnected, iphone will automatically switch to EDGE and start to sum up some unwanted data usage charges.

last sat call up maxis to help my BIL activate the 5 mb package, cos after i check, he has used up almost 40 mb unknowingly, with charges of 1 sen per kb
from wat the CS told me, maxis has now capped the amount at rm 250
so the maximum u will pay for data usage is 250, unlike b4

Added on September 16, 2008, 12:14 amcome on la. if your prescribed method does work 100% and fool proof, do you think that the old timers here will even bother to install bosspref?

Added on September 16, 2008, 12:18 amanyway, i used to do that when i was still a noob (on 1.1.1) and tried that with my sim card PIN switched on (hence i cannot be sure if this method will still cause this problem):

every hour or so, i will eventually lose my network signal and iphone will prompt me to enter my sim card PIN again. but a personal experiment of mine, found that if i have entered the details correctly on each of the categories, i didn't encounter anymore network lost or having me to reenter my sim card PIN again

Added on September 16, 2008, 1:07 amhmmmm... no good as i have tried earlier. i would still need to reenter my sim card PIN after a while (if i tried typing gribbish there) especially if i moved from a 3g area to edge.

still need to JB nevertheless to obtain bosspref. sigh...

maxis no cap
my nephew father argue on the fact, the unlimited is only 99, how could they let it go above?

i have checked with my cuzin who works in Maxis and indeed their GPRS capping is RM250(For pay per use package).

i m on the maxis unlimited 99/month package which is better than pay per use and all if your a heavy user bt mind you the cap for fair usage policy still exists.
